Golf courses have slowly disappeared in the Midland-Odessa area, but the Odessa City Council said it wants to help bring a new course back to the community.
The city said they understand the need for a new 18-hole course, so they created a study to find where, when, and how they can make a new one for the city.
According to Odessa Parks and Recreation, golfers have played over 50,000 rounds of golf in the last three years at Ratliff Ranch, which takes a toll on the course.
"An additional golf course will also spread that play out a little bit," said John Rogers, the director of Odessa's Parks & Recreation Department. "It will allow us to have two courses that are in great shape, so it'll help all the way around."
The city said the goal is to keep a course open to the public seven days a week and available for charity events.
