The First Tee of the Triad Announces The John Faidley Learning Center at Winston Lake

Carolinas PGA Member John Faidley Honored for his Commitment to The First Tee of the Triad

(Greensboro, N.C.) – The John Faidley Learning Center at Winston Lake was announced on June 2 at the Forsyth Country Club Celebrity Pro-Am Evening Party.

The Learning Center will be constructed at Winston Lake Golf Course in Winston-Salem, N.C., and will be the first teaching facility in the Piedmont Triad to also include an academic center. Features of The John Faidley Learning Center include hitting bays, a practice putting green, an observation deck for parents to watch their children grow in the program, and a building which will house a computer center for children to do homework. The Learning Center’s goal is to become a safe and engaging place for participants to spend time after school.

The John Faidley Learning Center at Winston Lake was made possible after an anonymous donor pledged a $100,000 matching grant to The First Tee of the Triad. This pledge, along with a commitment from Landmark Builders based in Winston-Salem to cover building costs, put this project into motion. The Self Foundation also pledged $75,000 over three years to fund both the technology and the curriculum of the academic center.

John Faidley, PGA has been the Head PGA Professional at Winston-Salem’s Forsyth Country Club since 2001. Faidley and club members have hosted the Forsyth Country Club Celebrity Pro-Am for five years. Proceeds from this annual event support The First Tee of the Triad by contributing almost $500,000 over the five years and helping the chapter become known as one of the Top Ten First Tee Chapters in the United States.

“John has shown such a remarkable commitment to our program by hosting the fifth annual Forsyth Country Club Celebrity Pro-Am,” said The First Tee of the Triad President Mike Barber. “The members at Forsyth CC have opened their arms to the children of our organization and fully embraced our mission.”

The First Tee of the Triad is still looking for two more significant benefactors to fully fund this project. The goal is to have the facility open by Fall 2014.
