Block leads a group of 20 club professionals into the PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club
(Carlsbad, Calif.) – TaylorMade Staff Professional Michael Block, the PGA head professional at Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club in Mission Viejo, Calif., won the 2014 PGA Professional National Championship (PNC) at The Dunes Beach & Golf Club in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Block secured the title after defeating fellow TaylorMade Staffer Jamie Broce in a two-hole sudden death playoff.
Each day, club professionals have direct contact with the golfer and spur the industry. They’re the group that conducts tournaments, provides lessons and operates the golf shop. But it’s not every day that they have the opportunity to showcase their playing ability on a national stage.
When given that opportunity, more PGA club professionals elected to use TaylorMade drivers (146 – 46% of the field) than any other brand. In addition, TaylorMade putters were No. 1 at the PNC with 112 in play.
The top 20 finishers will again have the chance to display their playing prowess, as they each qualified for the PGA Championship. Block - who played the SLDR driver, Tour Preferred irons, Tour Preferred X golf ball and wore the adidas gripmore shoe – was one of 10 TaylorMade staff professionals to earn a berth in the 2014 PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky.
