Following Successful Island Resort Championship, Perfect Foursome Package at Sweetgrass Gains Ground

(Harris, Michigan) - Less than a month after the successful run of the inaugural Island Resort Championship, Sweetgrass Golf Club is experiencing its best playing conditions and most popular golf season in its history.

The championship, won by LPGA Future Tour rookie Stephanie Kim, 19, of Bayside, N.Y., proved the course was a great test of golf all week.  “On the holes that were downwind, I made birdies, but on some holes, it was pretty tough,” said Kim of her first round. “It’s a great golf course and it’s in great shape.”

The course reopened for public play the week after the June 24-26 LPGA Futures Tour event, proclaimed by many of the players as one of the most inviting and challenging new Tour courses this year. It is one of a handful of public courses where golfers can play following professional championship rounds.

For those wishing to test their game against the Paul Albanese design that left the winner with a 67-72-70=209 three-day score on her first professional winning card, the course will remain open until the late fall, and will not raise rates.

Daily fee rates start at $75, and stay-and-play package rates at $95 per person per night are highlighted by the popular Perfect Foursome package, which includes rounds at Sweetgrass and neighboring Greywalls and Timberstone in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

“The championship drew golfers from around the world, proving this course is an exacting test of golf from tee to green,” said head golf professional Dave Douglas. “It’s also a lot of fun to play for amateurs, giving you several options for risk and reward.”

Temperate weather in the low 80s and excellent playing conditions as a result of championship preparations have made it a popular golf option for Michiganders, Wisconsinites, Canadians and travelers from the South seeking golf options that beat the heat.
