Ten former major Champions, led by current British Open Champion Ernie Els, who also won the U.S. Open in 1994 and 1997, are committed to play in this years Frys.com Open to be played Oct. 8-14 at CordeValle Golf Club in San Martin.
In addition to Els, Frys.com Open is proud to be hosting many other champions. Some of the other notables include:
* Ryder Cup Captain Davis Love who won the PGA Championship in 1997
* John Daly who won the PGA Championship in 1991 and British Open in 1995
* Angel Cabrera of Argentina who captured the U.S. Open in 2007 and Masters in 2009
* 1997 British Open Champion Justin Leonard
* 2003 British Open Champion Ben Curtis
* 2004 British Open Champion Todd Hamilton
* Mike Weir won the Masters in 2003, and the Fry's Electronics Open at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale in 2007
* Lee Janzen who has won two U.S. Opens, in 1993 at Baltusrol and in 1998 at The Olympic Club in San Francisco
1964 U.S. Open Champion Ken Venturi, a native of San Francisco, is this year's Honoree and will be at CordeValle all week.
Both 2009 U.S. Open Champion Lucas Glover and 2001 British Open Champion David Duval intended to play, but have been forced to withdraw due to injury.
Tournament Director Jeff Sanchez expects additional entries into the tournament prior to the Friday, October 5th deadline. Four additional spots in the field will be won in open qualifying at Bayonet Golf Course in Seaside on Monday, October 8th.
