The Historic Mission Inn Resort & Club Stands in June Traveling Golfer Spotlight

(PHILADELPHIA, Pa.) – More than 100 years ago, one of the oldest golf courses in Florida was created on a piece of property that … well, looked like anything but Florida. Sure, it had all of the tropical vegetation that is typical to the region. But it also had elevations of 85 feet throughout the property.

On this topographical anomaly, the historic El Campeon course was built. In 1964, Chicago businessman, entrepreneur and adventurer Nick Beucher purchased what was known as the Floridan Country Club and began transforming the property into what is now the famous Mission Inn Resort & Club.

Now the 1,100 acre destination golf resort boasts two championship golf courses, 176 hotel rooms and suites, outstanding restaurants, a luxury spa and 30,000 square feet of group space – all just 35 minutes from Orlando.

For all of those reasons, the naturally spectacular Mission Inn Resort & Club will be the topic of the June episode of the award-winning Traveling Golfer television show.

“This property has been a labor of love for our family for many years,” explains Peggy Beucher-Clark, one of the six offspring who now operate Mission Inn. “Ever since my father first set eyes on it, the dream was to transform the property into something unique. It’s a very special place and we have dedicated ourselves to keeping his dream alive.”

In this latest episode of the Traveling Golfer, viewers will get an inside look at every facet of the massive property. Of course, the a majority of the inspections will take place on the two golf courses – El Campeon and the Las Colinas course that was added in 1992.

“I made my first visit to Mission Inn in the late ‘90s and fell in love with the property right away,” says Tony Leodora, host of the Traveling Golfer show. “I couldn’t believe the hills, which give both courses such character. Then there is the Mexican architecture and the Spanish theme that is repeated throughout the entire resort. It’s the closest thing to leaving the country for an exotic destination … without leaving Florida.”

The June episode of the Traveling Golfer airs as a scheduled weekly feature show on NBC Sports and NBC Sports + throughout four markets in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. NBC Sports airings are 10:30 a.m. on Sundays, 10 p.m. on Tuesdays and 11 a.m. on Thursdays. NBC Sports + airs the show at 8 p.m. Mondays and Fridays. Responding to golfers' never-ending demands to learn more about interesting golf courses and golf resorts across the country and around the world, well-traveled host Tony Leodora created the Traveling Golfer so he could take viewers on video trips to some of the most exciting golf locations. In each of the last eight years, the show has been honored by the International Network of Golf with one of its prestigious awards. In four of those years the Traveling Golfer was named the No. 1 Golf Television Show in America.

The Traveling Golfer is a series of monthly shows hosted by Leodora, who has more than 20 years of experience in televised golf. The featured destination stays on the website for one month, before being replaced by a new show. Alternate shows also air in a two-month rotation. All old shows are archived for continued viewing on the YouTube Network and on the home website, www.travelinggolfervideo.com.
