(RELEASE) - Sentosa Golf Club’s #KeepItGreen campaign was on the lips of the LPGA Tour’s leading players, including Major winners Lexi Thompson and Brooke Henderson, at this week’s HSBC Women’s World Championship, currently being played over the Singapore club’s New Tanjong Course.
A week after hosting the R&A’s inaugural Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific Golf Championship, Sentosa was assisted by the world’s best female golfers to tell the story of the New Tanjong’s reconstruction in a brand new video, detailing the unique design elements established during the club’s drive to become the most sustainable venue in golf.
Led by General Manager and Director of Agronomy, Andrew Johnston, and his specialist design team, the club embarked on a redesign programme that championed environmentally-friendly practices. This involved the saving and transplanting of over 300 trees, reusing existing materials to construct the New Tanjong’s ‘Pyramid House’ and its new cart path, and becoming completely self-sufficient in terms of irrigation via the installation and modification of the course’s six lakes. Through these measures, it is hoped that the New Tanjong will become a blueprint for more sustainable golf course designs in the future.
In the video, the HSBC Women’s World Championship competitors describe a number of these measures, which are set to feature upon informative sign posts to be positioned throughout the 16-month old New Tanjong Course, outlining these important elements to visiting golfers.
This activity took place as part of Sentosa’s year-long #KeepItGreen campaign, created to tackle two of golf’s most important issues, environmental sustainability and participation growth, during a landmark year for the club.
