(Quilchena, B.C.) - The award-winning Sagebrush Golf & Sporting Club is making the final preparations to launch the 2013 season under the watchful eye of Superintendent Norley Calder.
“The turf is in great shape; it over-wintered just perfectly,” Calder said as he looks forward to Sagebrush opening for its fifth full season about the third week in April
In 2013, Golfweek ranked Sagebrush No. 4 among courses in Canada built since 1960, and Golf Digest named Sagebrush to the select 100 best courses outside the United States.
“It’s getting better every year,” said Calder. “Most golf courses average about 30 acres of mown fairway. Here we have over 70 acres. But, with all of our maintenance programs, the turf keeps getting healthier. We’ve seen improvement every year in how the course has over-wintered.”
The Sagebrush experience is already unique in so many ways, but 2013 will be game changing. With the addition of the Browning, Remington, and Winchester cottages, and the superb Badlands Lookout Bar and Restaurant to complement the now-famous grill and bar at Terry’s Hideout, Sagebrush not only offers one of the world’s best places to play, but also one of the finest places to stay.
With spectacular views of Nicola Lake, each Cottage has four two-bedroom suites featuring king size beds with full ensuites, a ‘living room’ area with large flat screen TV, balconies, refrigerator, and deluxe coffee makers. Sagebrush offers an idyllic Corporate Retreat with full conference facilities for staff and client entertainment.
And Norley Calder and his crew are putting the final touches on the Rod Whitman-designed 18-hole Badlands Putting Course, and adjoining practice areas.
“Coming to Sagebrush is an all-day experience, and The Badlands Putting Course and the practice greens, bunkers, and chipping areas fit perfectly with that philosophy,” Calder explained. “It will provide an amazing place to not only practice but to play and have fun.”
In addition to the 18-hole Badlands Putting Course will be the practice putting green, the two chipping greens, and four practice bunkers.
“Norley has been here virtually since the first shovels went into the ground,” said Don Harvey, Sagebrush General Manager. “Norley and his crew have done another terrific job getting the course ready. As he says, it just keeps getting better.”
For the 2013 season, Sagebrush Golf & Sporting Club is inviting a limited number of ‘Outlaws’ (non-member groups) to play one of the game’s finest courses and to stay in one of three spectacular new cottages. Requests for reservations of the limited Outlaw opportunities for play this season are now being accepted.
