Russell Knox Wins WGC-HSBC Champions Event

(HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA) – Srixon and Cleveland Golf congratulate staffer Russell Knox for his victory at the 2015 World Golf Championship – HSBC Champions held at Sheshan International Golf Club, in Shanghai, China. The 30-year-old from Inverness, Scotland, used his exceptional wedge play to fire a final round four-under par 68 to finish two-strokes ahead of his nearest competitor, finishing with an overall final score of 20-under 268.  The victory was Knox’s first on the PGA Tour and with the victory, he became the first Scot to win a WGC event, as well as the first player to win a WGC event in their maiden victory.

“Winning any professional tournament is a massive accomplishment, you’re never quite sure if you’re ever going to do it because there’s so many incredible players throughout the world, especially at tournaments like this with such an elite field,” said Knox. “To come and be on top this week is a dream come true. I still can’t quite believe I’m here. I was quite calm. But at the same time, that was the most nerve-wracking thing I have ever done.”

Knox, who was a reserve heading into the tournament, only found out a week prior to the event that he was in the field, forcing him to scramble for a Chinese visa, and leaving him with only enough time for one practice round.  Knox’s victory at the event earned him a winner’s check of $1,400,000 and propelled him to third in the PGA FedEx Cup standings.  The victory also secured Knox a spot at the 2016 Masters in April, as well as the 2016 Huyundai Tournament of Champions.

Knox played with Srixon’s new 4th generation Z STAR ball with SpinSkin Technology, a Cleveland Classic XL Custom driver (9.0°), Cleveland Launcher fairway woods (15° / 19° with Miyazaki Kusala Black 83X shafts), a Cleveland Launcher DST hybrid (3i), a Cleveland Mashie hybrid (4i), a Srixon Z 545 iron (#5), Srixon Z 745 irons (#6-9), and Cleveland 588 RTX 2.0 wedges (48°, 54°, 60°).  Knox wears a Srixon hat, a Srixon glove, and carries a Srixon bag.
