Contested at El Camaleón Golf Club at Playa del Carmen, the OHL Classic at Mayakoba made golf history in 2007 when it became the first PGA TOUR event to ever be contested outside of the United States or Canada. Today it remains Mexico’s only PGA TOUR event and attracts several PGA TOUR winners and major champions, as well as established and emerging Latin players including this year’s field which includes commitments from:
- Keegan Bradley (United States)
- Angel Cabrera (Argentina)
- Stewart Cink (United States)
- Emiliano Grillo (Argentina)
- Justin Leonard (United States)
- Graeme McDowell (N. Ireland)
- Geoff Ogilvy (Australia)
- Carlos Ortiz (Mexico)
- Jhonattan Vegas (Venezuela)
- Camilo Villegas (Colombia)

The decision to add a Spanish telecast of the event serves as a preliminary step toward Spanish-language golf content as part of NBC Sports’ coverage of The Open Championship and RICOH Women’s British Open, which will be broadcast by NBC Sports for the first time in 2016. The weekend telecasts of the OHL Classic at Mayakoba on NBC Universo also mark an effort to expand the network’s engagement with Hispanic audiences to showcase the game to a broader audience of golf enthusiasts.
