Mizuno's New MP-64 Irons Combine World Class Feel, Maximum Ball Control
Luke Donald provides key insight and critical knowledge in development of his new 'Player's Cavity' irons
(Norcross, GA) - Mizuno, the leader in iron technology and development, has launched the MP-64 irons, the company's finest "player's cavity" irons design. The full body Diamond Muscle Design in the Grain Flow Forged MP-64 delivers unparalleled long-iron forgiveness and enhanced control in the scoring irons.
The world's premier iron player Luke Donald, Mizuno Brand Ambassador, provided Mizuno engineers with significant and valuable feedback throughout the development of the MP-64 irons. Donald was so impressed with the end result and performance of the MP-64 irons that he put them in play prior to the start of the 2012 FedEx Cup Playoffs. Precise control of vibration frequencies at the point of impact, known as Harmonic Impact Technology (H.I.T.), paired with high-quality 1025E Pure Select steel and Mizuno's patented Grain Flow Forging Process deliver the ultimate feel, precision and ball control.
"Serious golfers are constantly on the lookout for the next new iron that is going to give them an edge over the competition, and we believe the MP-64s fit the bill," said Dick Lyons VP and General Manager, Mizuno USA, Inc. "Luke Donald played a crucial role in the design stage, providing valuable perspective that allowed us to create our best 'player' irons to date. If the feel and performance satisfy Luke, we're confident we've created an iron that is going to perform for a lot of players."
The MP-64 irons feature a flow cavity design that features a deeper cavity in the long irons for increased playability and a shallower cavity in the mid and short irons for enhanced control and workability. Donald was especially instrumental in the design of the sole of the MP-64's. The sole delivers consistent turf interaction for predictable trajectory and an unmatched ability to control the ball off the clubface.
A double-nickel chrome finish, highlighted with a 3D forged Mizuno Runbird logo, provides an elegant and durable finish while highlighting Mizuno's precision forging expertise and offering a new, high-tech look.

TaylorMade Golf Introduces Ghost Spider S
The Legendary Ghost Spider Franchise Delivers again with one of the Most Stable Putters on Tour
(CARLSBAD, Calif.) – Extensive Tour testing influenced every detail of the new Ghost Spider S – one of the most stable putters TaylorMade has ever created. In addition to its new, tour-inspired shape, the Ghost Spider S is revolutionary in terms of control and feel.
“Ghost Spider S isn’t an evolution in mallet performance, it’s a revolution,” said Michael Fox, TaylorMade’s Product Line Manager for Putters and Wedges. “To create it, we started with the DNA of our most successful putter franchise and applied more than a year of obsessive feedback from our toughest customers, our Tour Staff professionals. In terms of the two most critical aspects of putting -- alignment and stability -- Ghost Spider S is the complete package.”
Ghost Spider S delivers an off-the-charts MOI measurement of 6,030, dramatically higher than previous TaylorMade mallets like the Ghost Manta (4,900) and Corza Ghost (3,830). The exceptionally high MOI makes Ghost Spider S extremely stable on off-center hits, and it also makes it easier to control the head and square the face to the ball at impact, a key benefit that has been consistently called out by the Tour pros who have put it in play.
In its second official week on the PGA Tour, at the Wyndham Championship, Ghost Spider S was the No. 1 overall model with six in play. Among those to play the Ghost Spider S this year include, Jason Day, Y.E. Yang, Pat Perez, Rory Sabbatini, Spencer Levin and Peter Hanson, who recently won with it at the KLM Open.
Ghost Spider S’s multi-material head (aluminum and steel) combines a white-colored steel-frame perimeter and top-line with a new, tour-inspired, non-transition black crown. The contrast between the white leading edge and black crown makes it easier to focus your eyes on the topline, making it easier to aim accurately.
In addition to the standard hosel, the Ghost Spider S will also be available in a Tour-inspired “short slant” hosel designed for the player who swings on an arc. Unlike the standard hosel, which promotes a straight back-straight thru swing path, the short-slant is toe-weighted to broaden the scope of players who can benefit from the performance characteristics of the Ghost Spider S.
“Mallet putter use on the PGA Tour has grown during the past decade to where, today, more than 30% of PGA Tour pros use a mallet,” added Fox. “We’re confident that Tour pros and amateurs who favor a mallet will want to explore Ghost Spider S because the performance benefits are impossible to ignore.”
The Ghost Spider S standard model is available Nov. 1 for $179 in standard length and $199 in a belly model. The Ghost Spider S featuring the “short slant” hosel will hit the market a month later, on Dec. 1.

Iconic EGD design underpins Celtic Manor Resort’s reputation as ‘most popular golf destination in the UK’
(Sunningdale, UK) - European Golf Design has been recognized for its role in creating the iconic Twenty Ten Course at the Celtic Manor Resort, recently rated the most popular golf destination in the UK by a leading golf travel company.
The 2010 Ryder Cup venue tops the list of Best Selling UK Golf Hotels on yourgolftravel.com with the resort reporting a 26 percent growth in golf revenue in the second year since hosting the prestigious matchplay tournament.
Russell Phillips, Celtic Manor Vice-President of Facilities and Development, who project managed the course build and staging of the Ryder Cup, said: “It was fundamental to the success of the Ryder Cup and the legacy of hosting the event that the Twenty Ten Course be designed for play by both the world’s best and the golfing public.
“As the steady rise in popularity and revenue proves, that is precisely what the design team achieved.”
Owner of Celtic Manor Resort Sir Terry Matthews hired the expertise of EGD in 2001 with the vision of winning the bid to host the 2010 Ryder Cup and bringing the prestigious event to Wales.
The joint venture company of the European Tour and IMG set about designing the first ever purpose-built Ryder Cup venue as part of a £16 million development setting the stage for the dramatic 2010 event.
Describing how to create a course that offers the drama and spectacle required for a Ryder Cup, combined with playability for the golfing public, Ross McMurray, Designer of Celtic Manor’s Twenty Ten Course, said: “With creative design, you can ensure that all golfers can enjoy even the most demanding of tournament courses.
“Our priority was to design a course fit for the Ryder Cup, which would challenge the professionals and create a sense of drama for the viewers, while also catering for the infrastructure around the venue required for the thousands of spectators, the world’s media plus all the event’s staff.
“However, one of the beauties of golf is that the fans can play on the same courses as the tour professionals, so it was also important that everyone could enjoy the course.
“This was achieved by ensuring the landing areas for public golfers are substantially wider than for professionals. We have to be careful that bunkers aren’t so difficult that golfers of all abilities can’t escape from them, while providing enough of a challenge to tour professionals. It’s a fine line, but it is possible.”
Established in 1992, EGD has made its mark on more than 50 projects across four continents, from Ryder Cup venues to nine-hole academy courses and is involved with preparations for both the 2018 Ryder Cup at Le Golf National, Paris and the UK’s first European Tour Performance Institute at London Golf Club, Kent.
Jeremy Slessor, Managing Director of EGD, said: “The most crucial element of any development, golf or otherwise, is sustainability.
“The three Ps of sustainability are: Profit, People and Planet and each is as important as the other.
“At Celtic Manor, the infrastructure required was phenomenal. When you’re anticipating crowds of 40-45,000 people that will travel around the course with only three or four groups you have to know how they’re going to get there, what they’re going to do while they’re there and how they’re going to get out.
“With the event taking place in Wales during October, we could be fairly certain that weather would be a factor and by installing extensive flood defences and fairway drainage we ensured that the course would stand up to the deluge it experienced.
“The success of the event not only for the European Team, but also for the global audience, ensured the longevity of profitability at Celtic Manor as golf fans from across the UK and the world now recognise the Twenty Ten Course as the venue for one of the most beguiling Ryder Cup’s in history.”
