Mulder Leads after Second Round of American Century Championship

(RELEASE) - Two-time defending champion Mark Mulder totaled 48 points at the end of the second round at the American Century Championship on Saturday to take the lead. Mulder, a former All-Star pitcher for Oakland Athletics, has a three-point lead over one-time World Series Champion Derek Lowe (45) and former top-ranked American tennis player Mardy Fish (45). Following right behind is Chad Pfeifer, the three-time Bush Center Warrior Open and international amputee champion with 42.

The 54-hole tournament at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course, in its 28th year, uses a modified Stableford scoring system that rewards points for eagles, birdies and pars, and deducts points for double bogeys.

Mulder, who is the defending champion of ACC has never entered the final round as the leader.   He is confident going into the third round and plans to focus on just playing from shot to shot

Saturday’s second round and Sunday’s final round will be televised live on NBC (3-6 p.m. EDT). The winner receives $125,000 of the $600,000 purse.
