July Translates to Family Fun at Hilton Head Island's Palmetto Dunes

(HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C.) — When we think about the month of July around Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort, one word immediately pops into mind: “Family.”

Indeed, July is the ideal month to spend with your family by the beach, enjoying the outdoor weather and cooling off on the beach or by the pool. Which is also why at Palmetto Dunes, we celebrate July as our “Family Golf” month.

Palmetto Dunes is designed for families to get active together by offering a variety of ways to do just that — including its Hilton Head Family Golf School. Whatever levels at which a family may play, Palmetto Dunes will tailor its golf school to specific needs and skill level. Its head of golf instruction, former PGA TOUR player Doug Weaver, is great with kids and teaches them moves like “closing the car door” and “alligator arms” to help them learn golf in a fun and engaging way.

The golf school includes a video analysis sent by email, on-course instruction, rules and etiquette lessons, the school’s video lending library, take-home materials, free range privileges, plus nine holes of golf daily on a space-available basis.

Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort caters to golfers of all levels, having installed permanent junior tees on its Robert Trent Jones golf course, while the George Fazio course caters to juniors. The Fazio junior tees measure 3,384 yards for 18 holes, with the longest hole (No. 10) measuring 316 yards. Holes range between 90 and 316 yards. In addition, kids 10 and under play free after 4 PM at the Robert Trent Jones Hilton Head golf course and the Arthur Hills golf course with an adult paying regular rate.

This summer, the Palmetto Dunes Golf Academy features lessons and clinics for all ages and skill levels. Palmetto Dunes offers four family-oriented options:

The “Family Golf School,” where coaches are able to teach different skill levels at the same time is a total of $1,300, which includes three days (two hours per day) of instruction for the entire family, nine holes of golf on three different days, unlimited practice, an instructional manual, and videos and photos to remember. Scheduling is flexible.

The “Family Golf Class” is $200 and includes two hours of instruction, an hour on the range and an hour on the course. Coaches can teach different skill levels at the same time for up to five people ($50 per additional player). Clubs are included along with an instructional manual, and videos and photos to remember.

“Parents Night Out” allows for parents to have time together, while children are learning a game for a lifetime, and includes videos and photos to remember.

“Little Swingers” is offered Monday and Tuesday from 5:15 - 6 p.m. for $25 (ages 3-7) at the Robert Trent Jones Course. Focusing on different aspects of the game every class, the Junior Morning Clinic takes place each weekday at 10 a.m. for $25 and the Junior Afternoon Clinic occurs Monday through Thursday at 4 p.m. for $25 (ages 6-18) at the Robert Trent Jones Course. Parent participation is required, which translates into family bonding while everyone is learning. Clubs are included, along with videos and photos to remember.

In addition, Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort also offers the club fitting, building and repair services of SwingFit, which is owned and operated by Chris Wycoff — one of Golf Digest magazine’s “Top 100 Club Fitters.”

Away from the golf course, your family will also enjoy Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina and its outdoor Southern phenomenon known as HarbourFest. Shelter Cove Harbour is a Mediterranean-style village located mid-island at mile marker 8 across from Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort, offering casual waterfront dining, unique shopping, live entertainment and beautiful views of Broad Creek. And don’t forget to snap a selfie with the Statue of Neptune, the world’s largest figurative sundial.
