Eco Golf Partners with Folds of Honor Foundation to Provide Educational Support for Military Families

Portion of Patriot Golf Day tee and marker pack sales over Labor Day weekend benefits foundation

(OWASSO, Okla.) – Eco Golf has joined the Folds of Honor Foundation to aid in its mission of providing educational scholarships to the dependents of soldiers killed or disabled while serving our country.

“We’re thrilled to have Eco Golf on board as one of the many partners who are helping to support our country’s military heroes and their families,” said Dan Rooney, Folds of Honor founder. “Patriot Golf Day is a vast, nationwide fundraiser for Folds of Honor and we welcome Eco Golf’s commitment to the event and the cause.”

Eco Golf has created a commemorative Patriot Golf Day tee and marker pack to be sold at participating facilities over Labor Day weekend for $6. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Folds of Honor.

Patriot Golf Day is a national promotion held over Labor Day weekend supported by The PGA of America and United States Golf Association. During Patriot Golf Day Weekend, golfers are asked to donate at least $1 for each round of golf at participating facilities nationwide. Non-golfers can also participate by making a donation to the foundation at its website, FoldsofHonor.org.

“Eco Golf is incredibly proud to be backing our nation’s military families through the Folds of Honor foundation,” said  Gordon Schenk, co-owner of Eco Golf. “Our aim is to drive awareness and donations to Folds of Honor with the Patriot Golf Day pack, and we hope people will take advantage of this special offer while playing golf over Labor Day weekend.”

Since its inception in 2007, Owasso-based Folds of Honor has awarded more than 3,800 immediate and future-use educational scholarships. As of January 2012, more than one million dependents have been affected by the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Of these, 87 percent do not qualify for federal scholarship assistance.

About the Folds of Honor Foundation:
Major Rooney, a former F-16 military pilot with the Oklahoma Air National Guard, founded the Folds of Honor Foundation in 2007 following his second of three tours of duty in Iraq. While a passenger on a commercial flight, Major Rooney witnessed an event that would profoundly change his life. As the plane landed, the pilot announced, “Ladies and gentlemen, we have an American hero on board – Corporal Brock Bucklin - and his twin brother, Corporal Brad Bucklin, is accompanying him home from Iraq. As a sign of respect, please remain seated while Corporal Bucklin’s family receives him in his final homecoming.” Major Rooney watched through the window of the plane as the flag-draped casket was lowered. He saw a family waiting for Brock, and a little four-year old boy waiting for his father. This tragic homecoming inspired Major Rooney to create the Folds of Honor Foundation. That four-year old boy, Jacob Green, is the first recipient of a Folds of Honor scholarship. For more information on Folds of Honor, visit www.foldsofhonor.org.
