It was October 2019. Kerry, Brad, and two other lifelong golf buddies met up in North Carolina for a three-day weekend of Pinehurst-area golf. The Dormie Club’s 7th hole is a bear of a par 3, 241 yards that day, and that was where the idea of Red Rooster was born – all because Brad gave Kerry a mountain of &*^% for his hole-in-the-palm glove he was wearing, while trying to feather a cut-3 wood onto the green.
A little background – Kerry is a scratch golfer with NCAA golf experience; Brad has played professional golf for 21 years, including 3 years on the PGA Tour and a win on the Korn Ferry Tour. But neither of them had ever given much thought to golf gloves before a conversation after that round at Dormie.
Why wouldn’t Kerry have brought at least one new glove for this trip? The weekend wasn’t going to be cheap, so why skimp on a glove? He wears a glove on every shot, except on the greens. Wasn’t a glove important?
For Brad, you only had to open the side pocket of his Tour bag to answer that question – and that answer was a resounding YES. He had 5 new gloves ready and waiting (for his upcoming Q School). How long would he go before switching out? How long SHOULD someone use a glove before grabbing a new one? These were questions they debated back and forth after the round.
And they were questions they both tried to answer over the next 18 months, as Red Rooster was born.
It’s not just another golf glove – there’s a mission behind Red Rooster Golf, and we want to tell you all about it.
