Global Golf Icon Sergio Garcia Shocks Local Golfers at Historic Bethpage State Park Golf Course

International Star Passes Out TaylorMade Golf SLDR S Drivers and Tees off with Select Groups on First Hole of Black Course

(Carlsbad, Calif.) – It was just another spring morning at Bethpage Golf Course in Farmingdale, New York. Local golfers flocking to the picturesque clubhouse, warming up and congregating at the driving range. These unsuspecting local golfers were oblivious to how their experience was about to get even better.

Fresh from Pinehurst, North Carolina, and on his way to the Travelers Championship (where he would finish T2), Sergio Garcia made a quick pit-stop in Long Island.

Garcia’s ambush was all part of TaylorMade Golf’s “Distance for All” campaign, which promotes the company’s new SLDR S driver. Since last summer, SLDR has been the No. 1 played driver on Tour. The SLDR S driver is designed to fit a wide variety of golfers and deliver distance regardless of swing speed. Click HERE to learn more about the SLDR S family of metalwoods.

TaylorMade-adidas Golf & Ashworth Golf Tour Staffer Justin Rose Wins Quicken Loans National

Win is First on PGA TOUR for Yet-To-Be-Released UDI (Ultimate Driving Iron) and Another for Revolutionary Speed Pocket Technology Found in TaylorMade’s Tour Preferred Irons

(Carlsbad, Calif.) – Known for emerging victorious on some of the most challenging layouts on the PGA TOUR, TaylorMade-adidas Golf and Ashworth Golf Tour staffer Justin Rose (@JustinRose99) came from behind to win the Quicken Loans National in a playoff at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland; his sixth win on the PGA TOUR.

What You Need to Know:
· TaylorMade had 52 drivers in play at Congressional, once again staking claim to the #1 driver brand played on the PGA TOUR
· Rose put TaylorMade’s new, not-yet-released UDI (Ultimate Driving Iron) in the bag prior to Thursday’s first round
· Rose’s Tour Preferred ATV 58 & 60 wedges were given a custom grind in advance of the tournament. Additionally, he went from 52* to 53* to add bounce for the tournament
· Rose’s win is the third this season for adidas Golf footwear featuring revolutionary gripmore technology, having also been worn by Martin Kaymer during his victories at THE PLAYERS as well as the 114th U.S. Open Championship
· Rose has been a TaylorMade Golf Staffer since 1999 and an Ashworth Golf Tour Staffer since 2012
· Rose earns 500 FedExCup points and is projected to jump 31 spots to 12th in the standings
· In addition to Rose, fellow TMaG tour staffers Shawn Stefani, Andres Romero and Brendon Todd finished second and T5, respectively

Rose switched from the R1 driver to the SLDR at the 2013 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational and has kept it in the bag ever since. Currently the No. 1 played driver model on the PGA Tour, the SLDR is engineered with a remarkable low and forward center of gravity (CG) placement which results in dramatically reduced spin rates.

Earlier this year TaylorMade introduced the SLDR Mini Driver, a club designed for use off the tee with more distance and forgiveness than a traditional 3-wood. Now, the makers of the No. 1 driver in golf have developed another club designed to find more fairways; the not-yet-released Ultimate Driving Iron. Rose was one of two players who put UDI in the bag, opting to play the 20-degree (#3) at the Quicken Loans National in preparation for the Open Championship.

In addition to his new UDI, Rose also played the Tour Preferred MB irons. He first added them to his bag at the Northern Trust Open in February and has played them throughout the 2014 PGA TOUR season to this point.

Complementing his bag full of TaylorMade clubs, Rose was one of the first on staff to wear adidas Golf’s new adicross gripmore footwear, which he first put into play at the WGC-Cadillac Championship. An evolution in golf footwear, gripmore technology is an innovation in golf footwear cleat design that combines the performance benefits of spiked and spikeless footwear into one revolutionary technology. Alongside unbelievable grip, the adicross gripmore is among the most green-friendly shoe the company has ever created. Also an Ashworth Golf Tour staffer since 2012, Rose wore Ashworth Golf apparel throughout the tournament.

In Rose’s Bag
* SLDR 430 Driver (10.5*)
* SLDR Fairway (16.5*)
* Tour Preferred UDI #3 (20*)
* Tour Preferred MB (2014) (4-PW)
* Tour Preferred X Golf Ball
* Tour Preferred ATV Grind Wedge (52*, 58* & 60*)
* White Smoke DA-62 prototype

Lightning Golf Introduces Two Unique Golf Balls that Demand Your Attention

(RELEASE) - Lightning Golf announced two golf balls which are sure to make a mark on the golf equipment market in the very near future. The HL3 SmackDaddy and the HL2 Volt are uniquely designed to offer golfers the distance and feel they need to improve their games and reach the next level. Each ball has been created with a specific player in mind – the HL3 for those with swing speeds over 92 MPH, and the HL2 for those under that mark.

The HL3 SmackDaddy
This is the ball for the player who already has a solid game and wants to take the next step – a step that they have been unable to take by using the same old golf balls found on shelves all over the country. The HL3 is a 3-layer golf ball with a urethane cover that offers the same kind of performance you would expect from a tour-level ball. A 318-dimple pattern helps give you that piercing ball flight we all want, yet it stills feels soft on and around the greens thanks to that urethane cover.

The HL2 Volt
Although it is designed for lower swing speed players, this isn’t a ‘rock’ that most beginning golfers are stuck playing with. The Volt has great playability because it still has a urethane cover like the HL3, but only has a two-layer design so it is easier to compress. Also, the HL2 has 332 dimples which allows for higher ball flight trajectory which helps golfers with lower swing speeds get every last yard possible. Instead of choosing between feel and distance as many beginners are forced to do, the Volt offers the best of both worlds.

Beyond offering two great golf balls for consumers to pick from, Lightning Golf also has another unique offering that is sure to be of interest to serious golfers – a subscription service. Instead of realizing too late that you are almost out of golf balls, Lightning Golf will deliver you a predetermined number of balls on a periodic basis (Either a dozen or a sleeve, available monthly or bi-monthly) so you are always well-stocked and ready to hit the links at a moment’s notice.

For golfers who are striving to reach their full potential, the HL2 Volt and HL3 SmackDaddy from Lightning Golf are golf balls that are changing the way players think and buy their golf balls. For more information or to place an order, visit www.lightninggolfball.com.

(Carlsbad, Calif.) – TaylorMade Staff Professional Michael Block, the PGA head professional at Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club in Mission Viejo, Calif., won the 2014 PGA Professional National Championship (PNC) at The Dunes Beach & Golf Club in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Block secured the title after defeating fellow TaylorMade Staffer Jamie Broce in a two-hole sudden death playoff.

Each day, club professionals have direct contact with the golfer and spur the industry. They’re the group that conducts tournaments, provides lessons and operates the golf shop. But it’s not every day that they have the opportunity to showcase their playing ability on a national stage.

When given that opportunity, more PGA club professionals elected to use TaylorMade drivers (146 – 46% of the field) than any other brand. In addition, TaylorMade putters were No. 1 at the PNC with 112 in play.

The top 20 finishers will again have the chance to display their playing prowess, as they each qualified for the PGA Championship. Block - who played the SLDR driver, Tour Preferred irons, Tour Preferred X golf ball and wore the adidas gripmore shoe – was one of 10 TaylorMade staff professionals to earn a berth in the 2014 PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky.

Members of the 59 Club Gather for a Legendary Conversation June 30 at 9 p.m. ET on Golf Channel

Rich Lerner Hosts Roundtable Discussion with Elite Group, Including Al Geiberger, Chip Beck, Annika Sorenstam, Paul Goydos and Stuart Appleby

(ORLANDO, Fla.) – While there have been 23 perfect games in baseball and 12 people who have walked on the moon, only seven people have ever shot a record score of 59 in competition on either the PGA TOUR or LPGA Tour. Five who can claim the moniker of Mr. or Mrs. 59 will join host Rich Lerner for a roundtable discussion about how the feat changed their lives and careers on the next installment of Legendary Conversation, Monday, June 30 at 9 p.m. ET on Golf Channel.

Joining Lerner are:*
Al Geiberger – He created PGA TOUR history as the first to accomplish the feat during the second round scorching heat of the 1977 Danny Thomas Memphis Classic. The fact that he hit every fairway and every green, and had only 23 putts still resonates.
Chip Beck – He cruised through the 10-month-old Sunrise Golf Club during the third round of the 1991 Las Vegas Invitational. He also won a $1 million bonus for his efforts.
Annika Sorenstam – She became the first – and still the only – woman to shoot 59, breaking the previous low by three strokes. Her feat came during the second round of the 2001 Standard Register Ping in Phoenix.
Paul Goydos – He made more than 180 feet of putts during the first round of the 2010 John Deere Classic in Illinois. He didn’t realize what he had done until he was asked to put a 59 on the stat sheet he signed to chronicle his record-tying score.
Stuart Appleby – He birdied the final three holes in the final round of the 2010 Greenbrier Classic in West Virginia, breaking a personal four-year winless drought. His accomplishment came less than a month after Goydos’ 59.

“I still think there’s a little magic about breaking 60,” Sorenstam said. “I think it’s the magic barrier that’s in your mind.”

Lerner leads a discussion that covers such topics as the mental tricks the players used to stay focused, what “staying in the zone” meant to them at the time, how critical putting was during their historic rounds, how the feat has changed their careers and lives, and whether the world will witness a score of 58 in the future.

*David Duval (1999 Bob Hope Chrysler Classic, final round) and Jim Furyk (2013 BMW Championship, 2nd round) were not able to join the show due to prior commitments.

Tripp Davis’ Renovation at Oak Tree National Sets the Stage for U.S. Senior Open

(Norman, OK) — When the greatest senior golfers in the world gather in two weeks for the 2014 U.S. Senior Open at Oak Tree National in Edmond, Oklahoma, they will be testing their game on one of Pete Dye’s best courses, thanks to the recent renovation work by Tripp  Davis and Associates.

“The golf course at Oak Tree National went through a variety of design changes over the years since Pete first designed it,” said Davis.  “We were brought in to regain the best of its original Pete Dye character and we think the pros will be very pleased with the final outcome.”

Davis and his team worked to return the features of the course to its original form adding a few enhancements for the modern game.  All tees and bunkers were rebuilt and strategically restored.

“The greens and greens surrounds were what made Oak Tree so strategic and we like what we recaptured,” commented Davis who credits Scott Verplank, Bob Tway, Willie Wood, club owner, Everett Dobson and project shaper Bill “Hollywood” Willingham as part of the team who provided ongoing input on changes throughout the course. “It can still be the toughest course in the country, but it is very strategic and option oriented,” said the former All-American from Oklahoma University.

The 2014 U.S. Senior Open will be the second USGA Championship to be played at Oak Tree National.  The club previously hosted the 1984 U.S. Amateur, the 1988 PGA Championship, the 2000 Club Pro Championship, and the 2006 Senior PGA Championship.

Golf is played year round in Myrtle Beach, with the prime seasons being the spring and fall, but summer, which began on June 21, offers multiple options as families are able to take summer holidays when school is on break.  To encourage family participation, 47 courses – including 28 with a four-star rating – will allow children aged 16 and under to play for free, when accompanied by a paying adult, as a part of the area’s ‘Kids Play Free Program’.

“We pride ourselves on introducing juniors to the game and creating a family-friendly atmosphere,” said Bill Golden, president of Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday.  “This unique program will allow families holidaying along the Grand Strand to play a great round of golf at tremendous value.”

Following two weeks of golf at Pinehurst, N.C., for the men’s and women’s U.S. Opens, Myrtle Beach receives international attention this week when the PGA Professional National Championship is played at The Dunes Club and Grande Dunes. The event has been played at esteemed American courses such as Pinehurst No. 2, PGA National, Doral Resort, Whistling Straits, Valhalla and The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island and is making its debut in Myrtle Beach. Winners of the championship include golf greats such as Bob Rosburg, Sam Snead and Bruce Fleisher.

“The PGA of America is very proud to be taking our National Championship in 2014 to Myrtle Beach, a resort destination that has embraced the game of golf unlike few other sites in the world,” PGA President Ted Bishop said when the site was announced last summer. “The Dunes Golf & Beach Club and Grande Dunes are outstanding venues to test our best-playing PGA Professionals.”

Later this summer, the 31st World Amateur Handicap Championship is scheduled all over Myrtle Beach. The August 25-29 event is the world’s largest golf tournament with approximately 3,500 participants from 27 countries competing on more than 60 courses.  Last year, more than 250 international players participated and that number is expected to grow. The 2013 international contingent included players from Canada, Germany, Puerto Rico, India, Italy, Mexico, Brazil, Bermuda, Guatemala, Australia, Sweden, Austria, Venezuela, Great Britain, The Netherlands, Virgin Islands, Japan, Panama, South Africa, Netherlands Antilles, China, Portugal, Dominican Republic, New Zealand, Nicaragua and Scotland.

Golf Datatech Unveils 'Assessing the Pyramid 2014,' a Study of Serious Golfers, their Buying Habits

First Study to Analyze the Lingering Impact of the U.S. Economic Meltdown on the Golf Industry, and how Serious Golfers Now Evaluate Influence, from Media to the Professional Tours

(ORLANDO, Fla.) - Golf Datatech (www.golfdatatech.com), the golf industry’s leading independent research firm for consumer, trade and retail golf trends, today unveiled “Assessing the Pyramid 2014,” a comprehensive study of serious golfers and their post-recession buying habits. The timing of this study is particularly significant as it analyzes the lingering impact of the U.S. economic meltdown on the golf industry, and its most engaged participants.

“Assessing the Pyramid 2014” provides a deep-dive investigation and evaluation of the primary marketing and promotional strategies employed by golf companies and equipment manufacturers when selling to the end consumer,” said Golf Datatech’s John Krzynowek.

The study was conducted with 3,000 respondents from Golf Datatech’s proprietary database of serious golfers, those who play the most rounds and spend the most on the game, with the average respondent playing over 60 rounds per year, with a household income of over $156,000 per year.

“In certain sectors of the golf industry, such as the equipment market, the state of the business is not good and we use this study to analyze why the market has stumbled since the recession, while providing insight into areas which have held up,” Krzynowek continued. “All indications are that serious damage was done to the core economic beliefs and purchasing psyche of the serious golfer due to the recession and the very weak recovery. In fact, over half of all respondents to the study said they still don’t feel financially secure in today’s economy, and their overall spending on golf-related purchases has not recovered to anywhere near pre-recession levels.”

Additional highlights of the 2014 Pyramid Study center on the comparison of attitudes and opinions from the pinnacle of the pyramid (low handicaps), to the base, where higher handicap players represent the foundation of the game. The study investigates how these attitudes have changed over the past seven years in the face of an extreme economic downturn. Cross tabbed sub-segments of the study focus on Alpha golfers (High Frequency Purchasers), Age, Facility Type Played, Handicaps, and Gender.

Krzynowek adds, “Those who utilize the ‘Pyramid’ in their marketing believe that developing successful golf brands starts with excellent products and services that perform at the highest level of play by the very best players. In turn, those players influence and spread the word among the other levels of the game.”

Additional questions that the study serves to answer include: Does the traditional “Pyramid” theory still hold? What has been the impact of the recession on the attitudes of golfers regarding golf purchases? Has the craving for new or improved technologies in golf equipment been marred by the economic circumstances over the past seven years? These questions, and many more, are investigated in depth within the study.

Coincidentally, Golf Datatech released its initial “Assessing the Pyramid” study in the summer of 2007, just months before the U.S. economy began slipping into the early stages of recession, just as the U.S. GDP began to tumble, unemployment soared, real estate values were decimated, and the banking industry nearly collapsed. With the 2014 version of the study, Golf Datatech helps to bring the discussion full circle, while providing the golf industry with a roadmap into the future.

Nike Golf Introduces New Versatility Footwear Styles

New Nike Lunar Waverly and Lunar Mont Royal embody classic Nike design DNA

(BEAVERTON, Ore.) – Perfect for summer’s longer days, warmer weather and extra hours on the golf course, Nike Golf introduces two new footwear styles inspired by more than four decades of Nike’s deep roots in athletic shoe design.

Available July 1, Nike Golf’s new Lunar Waverly and Lunar Mont Royal join the Lunar Clayton as part of the Versatility footwear family.

Nike Golf designers drew inspiration from Nike’s footwear heritage to create innovative styles inspired by iconic running and court sport silhouettes perfect for both on and off the golf course.

“The Lunar Waverly and Lunar Mont Royal were really inspired by classic Nike footwear styles, and we adapted those designs for athletes who want a golf shoe with versatile appeal,” says Carl Madore, Nike Golf Innovation Design Lead. “These are shoes with incredible performance technology that are great for playing 18 holes or wearing before or after the round, too. You can hit balls at the driving range on your lunch break without ever changing your shoes. These styles are modeled after some of Nike’s first shoes but modernized to perform specifically for our sport.”

Since introducing Integrated Traction technology in its footwear in 2010, Nike Golf has continued to improve the tread design for a combination of incredible traction and off-course comfort. The iconic Nike waffle sole featured on the Lunar Waverly and Lunar Mont Royal provides a more aggressive tread for superior grip and controlon course, while echoing Nike’s storied history in athletic footwear.

Lunar Waverly
Madore and team crafted the Lunar Waverly to be just as comfortable on the course as it is off. Partnering with the Nike Sports Research Lab, Nike Golf designers used pressure-mapping analysis to zero in on how the foot moves during the swing and determine the size, height, hardness and overall configuration of the waffle lugs. The footwear team brought that pressure mapping to life through visible color patterns on a traditional Nike waffle outsole reminiscent of the company’s very first footwear styles, featuring superior grip and traction within an iconic tread pattern.

Nike Dynamic Flywire technology combines with a rubber cup-sole for lateral support, surrounded by a premium waterproof full-grain leather upper. For the first time ever, Nike Golf designers utilized cork for the sock liner -- incredibly comfortable and extremely lightweight, the anti-microbial material helps prevent odor and provides a distinctive design detail, while full-length Nike Lunarlon foam delivers maximum responsive cushioning.

Lunar Mont Royal
When the Nike Montreal was unveiled in 1975, it was the brand’s first signature shoe designed for running legend Steve Prefontaine. Nearly 40 years later, Nike Golf is bringing the Montreal’s iconic color blocking design and running-inspired silhouette to the golf course in the Lunar Mont Royal.

Featuring Lunarlon foam in the heel and modern no-sew technology in the midfoot, the Mont Royal also utilizes the traditional Nike waffle sole for incredible grip and control. Tapping into insights from performance testing, Nike Golf footwear designers constructed the outsole with waffle tread rolling up around the toe and inner side of the foot to maintain traction through the swing as the foot pushes off the ground.

Lunar Clayton
A new Deep Burgundy offering of the Lunar Clayton featuring a lavender outsole is available July 1. Launched in early 2014, the Lunar Clayton celebrates the heritage and history of golf while providing athletes with superior comfort and a supportive fit in a premium, handcrafted shoe that is a versatile option for both on and off the course.

Wolsey Signs Michael Weaver as Golf Brand Ambassador

University of California All-American, 2013 Walker Cup Team Member to Compete on Web.com Tour

(LEICESTER, England) – Wolsey – one of the world’s oldest existing clothing brands and a pioneer of premium men’s apparel for sporting endeavors – announces the signing of former amateur star Michael Weaver, who will compete in the recently re-launched Sportsman line and showcase the company’s distinctive fox logo on his left chest, right sleeve and back yoke.

Weaver recently turned pro after graduating from the University of California and will primarily compete on the Web.com Tour in 2014. Highlights of the 23-year-old’s impressive amateur career included finishing runner-up at the U.S. Amateur (2012) and being named First Team All-American (2013). He also became only the second golfer ever to compete in the Masters, Palmer Cup, U.S. Open and Walker Cup in same calendar year (2013).

“Michael’s skill, intelligence and determination have him poised to continue his success and make a significant mark on the pro game,” says Wayne Webster, Wolsey’s Golf Sales Director. “He looks great in our clothes and, equally as important, is an outstanding young man.”

Recently re-launched, Wolsey Sportsman will premiere for Autumn/Winter 2014. It uses traditional British menswear colors in a clean and subtle manner. These combine with minimal and strong textual patterns to create a “less-is-more” aesthetic.

Featuring a silhouette that is more middle ground than slim, the collection includes performance merino polo’s, base layers, knitwear and pants, as well as breathable, waterproof and multi-layered outerwear. Many pieces rely on Invista THERMOCOOL technology that dual regulates body temperature to ensure the sportswear is “fit for purpose.”

“These clothes fit and feel amazing, which is exactly what I need while I compete against the world’s best players,” says Weaver. “Wolsey’s just becoming known in the U.S., but I can’t think of another brand that can match its 260 year heritage.”

Weaver is the latest addition to the modern team of pioneers that embody the Wolsey spirit. These include European Tour players Tom Lewis, Robert Rock and James Heath, famed designer Johan Lindeberg and noted polar explorer Alex Hibbert. This continues a tradition at the brand that traces directly back to historic adventurers like Sir Ernest Shackleton and Captain Robert Falcon Scott, as well as golfing greats Peter Allis and Tony Jacklin.

BOgolf launches new models upgrades

(Kwai Chung, Hong Kong) - BOGolf has upgraded all its old simulator models and given  every model a new name. The naming of the old models looked very dated as well  as caused confusion and hence the company felt the need to rename all its products and at the same time make it look very trendy as well as easy to remember.

The  new models have been named as BO-Element, BO-Elite and BO-Supra. The  “Element” is the basic system and “Supra” is the most feature rich system while  “Elite” is meant for intermediate players.

Anyone familiar with BOGolf knows that initially there were five models which were then reduced to three by adjusting the various features as per the demand of the  market. And now comes this change. With this change, not only the name but the features have also been added to each model to make it more useful and worthy.

Boccieri Golf Secret Grip Used by Top-5 Finisher at Travelers Championship

The Secret is Out on Tour, Counterbalance Technology Provides Superior Consistency, Control and Distance

(SCOTTSDALE, AZ) – Boccieri Golf’s award-winning Secret Grip – which allows players to easily counterbalance clubs from any manufacturer for an instant boost in performance – was used in the putter of a top-5 finisher at the PGA Tour’s Travelers Championship.

Relying on the Secret Grip for the first time in competition, the player fired an opening round 62 at the difficult TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, CT. Over the tournament’s four rounds, he also recorded one of the event’s lowest putting averages. Thus far in 2014, a number of Tour players who have switched to the Secret Grip are reaping the performance benefits associated with the Jack Nicklaus-endorsed product.

The added weight of the Secret Grip is achieved via a proprietary tungsten insert in the butt-end, combined with a rubber compound 40-percent heavier than standard. Together, these attributes raise the club’s balance point and force players to use their larger, more stable muscles. This results in a highly repeatable and reliable stroke.

“We’ve touted the benefits of counterweighting for 10 years, which golfers can now try simply by installing a new grip,” says Stephen Boccieri, President and CEO of Boccieri Golf. “This popular trend on the PGA Tour benefits players of any skill level, who can improve their putting instantly without modifying their stroke or changing to a new putter.”

Available in three sizes – Classic, Midsize and Jumbo – the putter version of the Secret Grip has been adopted by scores of Tour pros worldwide since being introduced in 2013. The Midsize ($24.99) weighs 155 grams and features popular pistol shaping. Weighing 165 grams, the Jumbo ($24.99) is preferred by players seeking a grip with an extra thick feel and additional weight.

For a limited time, the company is offering a risk free 30 day replacement guarantee on the full-swing versions of the Secret Grip. This bold, never-before-seen promotion puts the Secret Grip to the test by offering a trial period wherein customers can return the products if not completely satisfied and receive replacement grips of their choice at absolutely no cost. New models for 2014 include a specially-designed full-cord option, patriotic color updates – red, white, blue – and a thicker midsize option.

The Secret Grip range is currently available at Dick’s Sporting Goods, Golf Galaxy, PGA TOUR Superstore and www.SecretGrip.com.

Former LSU Star Ken Looper cruises to Cutter Creek Classic presented by Bojangles win with fiancé on bag

Brandon Brown grabs Utah Championship exemption, Auburn alum Kizzire posts back-to-back runner-up finishes

(Snow Hill, N.C.) – Former LSU star Ken Looper, out of Mandeville, La., may have closed out with the win but last week’s Cutter Creek Classic presented by Bojangles was a stark reminder of how sometimes golf can be a team sport and sometimes a tournament can have more than one winner.

When school teacher Danielle Ditoro said yes to her long-time boyfriend’s proposal little did she know she’d be committing to a summer job as a professional caddy. With his fiancé on the bag, the dynamic duo were able to get Looper to where he has been so close on several occasions so far this season, the winner’s circle.

The 2012 NGA Tour co-Rookie of the Year has had his share of successes on the NGA Tour this year with two runner-ups and a 3rd, 5th, and 6th place finish, losing one title in a playoff. When Ditoro decided to help her man out during her summer vacation, little did she know she’d also be helping him hold up a winner’s check by the end of the week. Looper, with his future wife by his side, shot 12 under par for the four day event and cruised to his third Pro Series title with a four shot win in one of the most impressive showings of the season.

Auburn’s Patton Kizzire finished at 10 under par and earned his second runner-up finish in a row. Tyler Light, making his debut on the NGA Tour Pro Series, shot an impressive 8 under par and finished alone in 3rd, not a bad debut for the rookie out of Malone University. A quartet of professionals finished at 7 under par and tied for 4th including one of Looper’s former LSU teammates Jarrod Barsamian, Drury University alum Thomas Hay, University of New Mexico alum and Mountain Lakes Classic Champion James Erkenbeck, and 2012 NGA Tour Player of the Year and past Cutter Creek Classic Champion Brandon Brown, who played collegiately at Eastern Kentucky University.

Brown’s T4 finish also made him a winner this week as well as Brown earned enough over the past two-tournament stretch to just edge out Looper by less than $1,000 to earn the NGA Tour’s event exemption into the Web.com Tour Utah Championship to be played July 10th through 13th. Ironically, in a true testament of history repeating itself, Brown’s last event exemption won on the NGA Tour, the 2013 Air Capital Classic, came at the conclusion of the 2013 Three Ridges Classic, the site of Looper’s last Pro Series win before Cutter Creek. Brown went on to qualify for the US Open last year opening the door for the Air Capital Classic exemption to be awarded to Looper since both events were taking place the same week. Could we see a repeat this season? Perhaps, but with the US Open  having already been played, Brown would have to qualify into the Web.com Tour’s Evansville or Canadian events and perform well enough to get into Utah based on earnings. Those that know Brown’s game would not be surprised at all to see it happen and most would probably say they’d be surprised if it didn’t.

Looper picked up $10,250 for the win while Kizzire earned $4,975 for finishing 2nd. Brown earned $2,517 for being tied fourth giving him a $12,517 two event total, just $936 better than Looper, but still good enough for the exemption win. Kizzire finished 3rd in the exemption race with a total of $9,475 in earnings.

The NGA Tour would like to thank Director of Golf Burt Williams, Head Superintendent Drew Ramsey, and the entire Cutter Creek Golf Club staff, membership, and volunteers for conducting such a championship event on one of the top courses in the state of North Carolina. The tour resumes play June 23rd at the Sound Golf Links at Albamarle Plantation in Hertford, N.C. for the Bigg’s Cadillac-Buick-GMC Classic. Spectators are welcome and, as always, admission is free to the public.

Nike Golf Athlete Michelle Wie Dominates to Win the U.S. Women’s Open

Wie captures her first major championship with 14 Nike clubs and RZN Black ball in the bag

(BEAVERTON, Ore.) – Nike Golf Athlete Michelle Wie powered her way to a two-shot victory at the U.S. Women’s Open, capturing the first major championship of her career at Pinehurst Resort and Country Club. The 24-year-old notched her second LPGA Tour win of the year – and fourth of her career -- with a final score of 2-under-par 278.

Wie celebrated her major milestone on the 18th green with her fellow LPGA athletes, who doused her in champagne.

“I had a lot of fun today, I woke up so excited. I am just so grateful for the opportunity,” said Wie. “I got a lot of goose bumps walking up to 18. I can’t believe this is happening.”

Wie, who eagled the tenth and birdied the 17th to give her a two-stroke cushion, ranks second in greens in regulation – 79 percent -- on the LPGA Tour with her Nike VR Pro Combo and VR Pro Blade irons. She is fourth in putts per greens in regulation, playing with an adjusted Method 006 putter this week featuring Polymetal Groove technology, which helps to reduce skid and produce a truer roll.

Wie’s Nike RZN Black ball features innovative Speedlock RZN technology, designed to deliver more distance, better feel and a more consistent, stable ball flight into the wind. The win gives Wie eight top-ten finishes this season, moves her from 11th to a projected seventh in the World Rankings, and she now tops the LPGA Tour Official Money List.

Wie sported apparel from Nike’s Tour Performance Women’s collection and the Nike FI Impact shoe.

Product Review: Tom Watson: Lessons of a Lifetime II

How much would you pay your club pro for a lesson - $60/hr, $100/hr? It’s not cheap. How much would you be willing to pay a PGA TOUR professional for a lesson? Assume the fee would be quite a bit higher.

Safe to say that several hours of lessons by a World Golf Hall of Fame member and winner of eight major championships would be priceless. Not exactly. Thanks to Tom Watson: Lessons of a Lifetime II, you can benefit from years of precision practice for only $49.95. Already have the first installment? No worries ... You can get the new lessons for only $24.95.

In his initial offering, Watson offered 46 lessons - ranging from the grip and setup to putting and curing a hook or slice ... and everything in between. New in 2014 are more than 20 tips on topics such as developing a pre-shot routine, maximizing time on the practice tee, handling pressure and mastering the 40-yard wedge.

So, for about $50, advanced golfers have an opportunity to learn the intricacies of the game ... or beginning golfers can learn the basics and grow with the lessons. For golf instructors, there are even a couple sections on teaching the game to kids and seniors.

A few paragraphs cannot do this set justice. Check out the website HERE for all the details and to place your order.

Here’s a bonus tip from American Golfer: Buy Tom Watson: Lessons of a Lifetime II and start your journey to playing better golf.

Linda Hartough Honored by USGA for 25 Years of Painting U.S. Open Venues

(HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C.) – Linda Hartough, world-renowned golf-landscape artist (www.hartough.com), was honored by the United States Golf Association (USGA) on June 13 at the U.S. Open Championship at Pinehurst Resort & Country Club in the Village of Pinehurst, N.C. A silver artist’s palette was presented to Hartough as a tribute to her 25 years of painting the U.S. Open venues, as commissioned by the USGA. This year’s painting, 9th Hole, Pinehurst No. 2, represents Hartough’s last in the series.

“I truly enjoyed painting every golf course on which the U.S. Open has been contested these past 25 years,” Hartough said. “It was a privilege to be commissioned by the USGA to do these paintings, and I appreciate the gift of this beautiful silver artist’s palette to commemorate the series.”

Making the presentation to Hartough were Thomas J. O’Toole Jr., president of the USGA; Mike Butz, USGA senior managing director for Open championships & association relations; and Mary Lopuszynski, USGA senior director of merchandising and licensing. Also in attendance was Mary Ann Sarazen, daughter of seven-time major champion Gene Sarazen.

At this year’s U.S. Open and U.S. Women’s Open, Hartough showed, sold and personalized limited-edition fine art paper prints of 9th Hole, Pinehurst No. 2 in an embossed 25th anniversary edition. The limited-edition canvas giclée edition of the painting also was available, with a commemorative plaque included. In addition, Hartough sold her newest book, GREEN GLORY: A Visual Tribute to the Courses of the Majors – Golf’s Renowned Venues. Hartough was present to personalize the books as well as the prints.

About the Painting: 9th Hole, Pinehurst No. 2
Hartough visited Pinehurst last April to see the restored course for the first time. She had been there many other times to do five paintings over the years, as well as drawings for the 1999 and 2005 U.S. Open Championships. The restoration to architect Donald Ross’ original vision reclaimed the course’s natural look, “…and everywhere the holes came alive,” Hartough said. “By that I mean the holes are now visually interesting with the natural contours of the land coming through and more use of natural vegetation.

“The course now looks as though it has always been there, and I am sure it was intended to look that way…When we came to the ninth hole, I fell in love and chose it immediately for my 2014 U.S. Open painting.”

The 9th Hole, Pinehurst No. 2 is offered in a limited edition of 850 prints and an additional 85 artist proofs. Each piece in the 25th anniversary edition is signed and numbered by Hartough, and each will be embossed with the 25th anniversary edition logo.

“Linda has captured the transformation of Pinehurst No. 2’s recent restoration beautifully,” said Jay Biggs, Pinehurst’s senior vice president, golf and club operations. “She has brought out the textures and ruggedness of the hole.”
