(SAN FRANCISCO, CA) – Blue Tees Golf, a rapidly growing producer of golf rangefinders and accessories, has teamed up with one of golf’s hottest coaches – George Gankas. The Golf Digest #11 Ranked Teacher will officially and exclusively use Blue Tees Golf Rangefinders exclusively on and off the golf course and in his teaching.

“We are incredibly excited to announce our partnership with George. He no doubt is one of the top teaching professionals in golf. He has taught over 10,000 in-person lessons which includes some of the best players on the PGA TOUR, Korn Ferry TOUR, Canadian TOUR as well as elite collegiate and juniors, but it is in the way he teaches these players. George pushes teaching standards and has created his own techniques, voice, and brand. We consider him the leader of the next generation of great instructors. Puerto Rico Golf Resorts Continue to Shine As Tourism Increases

Increased Airline Capacity and Lodging Demand Underscore Destination Vibrancy and Appeal to Visitors

(SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO) – Puerto Rico continues to ascend faster and better than its competitors according to statistics. That fact, coupled with the reopening of a favorite Island golf resort (El Conquistador) and best-in-class honors garnered, has positioned the tropical travel destination as one of Americans’ most desired places to visit.

Passenger arrivals in May into Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) – the air hub of the Caribbean – were the highest the airport has ever recorded for the month of May. Not only was it the biggest May for the airport; it was the seventh highest month it has ever had.

Increasing arrivals from the U.S. market are validated in the additional capacity air carriers have added through the remainder of the calendar year. For June through December, capacity from U.S. markets is up 40% from 2019, a record year for arrivals to Puerto Rico.

Lodging demand for the last three months has been 20% higher than two years ago. Hotels and independent rentals have increased in demand, with independent rentals growing 58%. The growth in both segments of the lodging industry is unique among Puerto Rico’s competitors.

Traveling to the Island is convenient and welcoming due to the traveler friendliness found in Puerto Rico’s bilingual culture, U.S. currency, and no passport required for American citizens. Its history, food, culture, beaches, casinos, golf courses, vibrant arts scene, rainforest, bioluminescent bays, and LGBTQ friendly atmosphere offer a plethora of reasons to visit.

Adding to the destination’s allure is El Conquistador Resort, the iconic property perched above the ocean in gorgeous Fajardo on the Island’s East Coast. Home to one of the Caribbean’s finest 18-hole golf courses, El Conquistador Resort has long been a favorite venue for traveling golfers. Designed by golf course architect Arthur Hills, the rollicking layout provides some of the most dramatic views and shots of any golf course in the world. That it is but one of 18 courses in Puerto Rico illuminates the quality and quantity found in the golf destination.

As an added perk for El Conquistador’s guests, complimentary self-parking and access to Coquí Waterpark are being offered to those arriving before September 30, 2021. All 230 of the spacious rooms boast deep soaking tubs, free WiFi, and private balconies with incredible views from 300 feet above sea level. For more information, visit: https://www.ConquistadorResort.com/

“We’re thrilled that El Conquistador has reopened and is once again a place where visitors to the Island can enjoy the inspiring resort and forge unforgettable memories,” said Brad Dean, CEO, Discover Puerto Rico. “Coupled with the positive tourism trends that are rising for the Island, now is the time to book your visit and discover for yourself why Puerto Rico has garnered numerous best-in-kind destination honors.”

Puerto Rico was honored in the Conde Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice 2020 Awards as one of “The World’s Best Islands” in the Caribbean and the Atlantic. More than 715,000 Condé Nast Traveler readers submitted responses rating their travel experiences across the globe.

Galway Bay’s New 2021 Rainwear Line Already Making Waves

Breathable, Lightweight All-Weather Gear Named “Best Under $500”

(NOVI, MI) – Galway Bay’s (galwaybaygolf.com) newest All-Weather rainwear line recently debuted with instant acclaim and improvements to its renowned lightweight, breathable, fully waterproof Hydro-Flex 32 fabric. The award-winning collection of jackets, pants and pullovers, also known for its ability to block wind and rain, and allow golfers to stretch and move freely while staying warm and dry, showcases classic style and some new fashion-forward touches.

Popular golf-equipment review website (www.mygolfspy.com) has already heralded Galway Bay’s All-Weather rainwear line 2021’s “Best Rain Wear Under $500.”  According to MyGolfSpy’s panelists, “The All-Weather suit performs well once again. It has some small tweaks in its design but the performance was never compromised. The water runs off with ease but the suit remains breathable in warmer conditions. Throw in customizable pant lengths and you have a top performer in 2021.”

In 2018 and 2019, Galway Bay was also named MyGolfSpy’s “Most Wanted Rain Gear” over every other brand in the industry.

New for 2021, Galway Bay has made its ultra-waterproof Hydro-Flex 32 fabric even lighter and stretchier for better freedom of movement. Also, new colorways in the All-Weather Jacket line include black-on-black, black-on-sage and, for the first time, an eye-catching short-sleeved white jacket with black accents.

Galway Bay's new All-Weather Pants are now available with a quieter, lighter Hyrdo-Flex 32 fabric for comfort and ease of motion. The waterproof and windproof pants now come in standard and tailored fit - with a more modern-cut tapered leg - options. Both pants feature belt loops, a seven-inch zipper and nine-inch-deep pockets, are designed to look like and be worn as golf slacks, eliminating the need to dress in layers. Galway Bay’s newest pants are constructed of the improved Hyrdo-Flex 32 material and can be ordered to fit a golfer’s exact waist and inseam sizes, optimizing comfort, fit and style like no other rain pant ever has.

“Our proprietary Hydro-Flex 32 fabric is the most breathable waterproof technology in the industry. The All-Weather Jacket is now more lightweight and includes more stretch with the same level of waterproofness and breathability,” says Galway Bay COO Michael Brown. “It’s the subtle touches, like a quieter, stretchier fabric and design elements that help you play undistracted and unrestricted, that our customers appreciate. Our jacket collar, for example, is high in the back to keep your neck dry while tapering down in the front so it doesn’t poke your chin. Add in rubberized waterproof zippers and rain pants that fit to your personal waist and inseam and you start to see our commitment to bringing golfers the most functional and enjoyable-to-wear rain gear on the market.”

THE 2021 LINE

The 2021 expansion of the Galway Bay line shows a commitment to the most cutting-edge materials and design in the industry while presenting an inviting variety of styles and colorways.

The all-new Black-on-Black All-Weather Long-Sleeve Jacket is available at a debut price of $299 (regular retail price - $329) while the matching unlined, lightweight and highly breathable Black All-Weather Pants, in classic fit, retail for $184. The All-Weather Short Sleeve Jacket will retail for $249 but is currently available for $229.

Later this year, an All-Weather Short-Sleeve White (with black accents) Jacket will be available for $249 along with the All-Weather Long-Sleeve Black with Sage Jacket ($329). “The Short-Sleeve White Jacket is an eye-catching piece that will have its instant fans. The black-on-black is a versatile staple that will likely be our best seller but we’re excited to be doing new things with our colorways and how the accents panels and the logos appear on jackets so the looks really pop. The Black with Sage Jacket really takes some fun, new directions with the accent panels but it’s still a great-looking, classic piece,” says Brown.

THE TECHNOLOGY

Galway Bay’s bi-component technology (Hydro-Flex 32) is a proprietary, three-layer 100% waterproof fabric that is constructed with a hydrophilic interior to pull moisture away from the skin and transfer it to the outer layer. The exterior surface area disperses and releases moisture for more efficient dry times. It regulates temperature in both hot and cold conditions. In addition, the fabric is more breathable, stretchable than ever, and features a rubberized waterproof zipper that together ensures the ultimate comfort and fit providing true performance.

All Galway Bay fabrics are designed to breathe easy, releasing excess body heat and reducing sweat so golfers can swing and move freely.

Galway Bay rainwear is sold online and, soon, in select golf shops. To learn more about Galway Bay’s innovative line of golf outerwear, visit www.GalwayBayGolf.com.

Pizá Chamblee Golf Design Presents the ‘Butterfly Effect’ Concept

The new Pizá Chamblee Golf Design features four distinct six-hole golf loops

(SAN DIEGO, CA) – Pizá Chamblee Golf Design, a recently formed partnership between award-winning architect Agustin (Augie) Pizá and Golf Channel analyst Brandel Chamblee, proudly introduces a completely original and imaginative golf course concept, referred to as the “Butterfly Effect.”

“The ‘Butterfly Effect’ refers to the innovative layout but also to the Chaos Theory where one small change in a system can result in a large difference. This thought process and concept could change golf course designs, create a movement, and ultimately grow the game. A golf courses like this asks the average golfer to have fun and think and the low handicap golfer to think and have fun. We are elated that the ‘Butterfly Effect’ concept is in development,” said Pizá.

The “Butterfly Effect” concept and golf course is in development and located in the rustic hillsides of Mexico, in Cuatro Cienegas, within a master planned community and resort. The layout resembles the wings of a butterfly from above with four diverse quadrangles. Within these sections are six-hole golf loops creatively positioned within the rural landscape and surround an inventive multi-purpose short course. One of the specific loops will host a professional women’s golf tournament.

“Augie’s concept is ingenious. The four-six-hole loops were designed to meet the ever-changing demands on time and to create a golf experience for different skill levels. A new or beginning golfer as well as an avid golfer will enjoy the layout. Six holes is the new nine and 12 holes is the new 18. I am thrilled he invited me to participate on this special project,” said Chamblee.

The Pizá Chamblee signature project features loops or circuits designed to provide an incredibly unique and different golfing experience and can be played in seven different combinations, up to 24-holes. Play as many holes as time permits. The circuits in the conceptual stage are named after colours -- green, red, blue, and purple and will be named as the project progresses.

(MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.) — The 3,300+ players who have already registered for this year’s World Amateur Handicap Championship will have the opportunity to enjoy an enhanced experience at the World’s Largest 19th Hole with the addition of the Blade & Bow VIP Lounge.

In addition to enjoying free food and drinks, live entertainment and celebrity guests at the 19th Hole, players who join the Blade & Bow VIP Lounge will have access to:

→ Premium food station

→ Craft beer bar

→ Specialty cocktail bar

→ Complimentary massages

→ Lounge style seating & TV’s

→ Premium dessert station

→ Complimentary lesson with a PGA Professional in a state of the art simulator

→ Arcade machines

→ Sweet Rollz Putter Grip

The Blade & Bow Lounge, which will be open all four nights of the tournament, will be limited to 250 people and cost $249.

A 72-hole, net stroke play tournament, the World Am will be played August 30 - September 3 on 55 of the Myrtle Beach area’s premier courses.

Entry into the tournament, which includes at least four rounds of golf, nightly admission to the World’s Largest 19th Hole and a gift bag, is $619 through July 8, a $60 savings off the regular cost. The registration deadline for this year’s event is August 5th.

“Based on early feedback, players love the concept and with short lines, premium drinks and a golf lesson, among many other perks, the Blade & Bow Lounge will make the 19th Hole experience even better,” Tournament Director Scott Tomasello said. “Blade & Bow, with its commitment to honoring history while producing one of America’s finest bourbons, is a perfect sponsor for the World Am and our VIP lounge.”

The Blade and Bow story began with the founding of the legendary Stitzel-Weller Distillery in 1935, a Louisville icon and home to the fathers of bourbon. With a commitment to craftsmanship and artistry, Stitzel-Weller reimagined what Kentucky Bourbon could be until distilling stopped in 1992.

Blade and Bow has opened the door to the next chapter of Stitzel-Weller’s renowned history.

The Blade and Bow family includes two distinct variants: Blade and Bow Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey and Blade and Bow 22-Year-Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Each variant offers a completely unique experience that pays homage to the storied distillery and welcomes a new generation to the art of bourbon making that was perfected.

While much of the 2021 World Am will look familiar to players, there will be two new women’s divisions this year. For the first time, there will be a women’s gross division, and the ladies, who previously had just one age group, will be split into two groups - 59 and under and 60 and older.

The World Am, which flights players based on age, gender and handicap, is open to all golfers 17 years of age and older.

The World Am flights players into 11 divisions – men 49 and under, senior men (50-59), mid-senior men (60-69), super senior men (70-79), seasoned seniors (80+), women (59 and under), senior women (60+), the gross division, senior (50+) gross division and women’s gross division. There is also a “Just For Fun” flight, created for players who want to enjoy the World Am experience without the pressure of competition.

After four days of competition, all flight winners and ties advance to the World Championship Playoff at the Resort Course at Grande Dunes, an 18-hole shootout that crowns the event’s winner.

While the competition is initially what lures players to the tournament, it’s only part of what keeps them coming back. At the heart of the World Am’s appeal is the camaraderie among its participants and much of that kinship is fostered at the World’s Largest 19th Hole.

The 19th Hole, which takes up all 120,000 square feet of the Myrtle Beach Convention Center is the heartbeat of the tournament, providing players free food and drink, live entertainment, a golf expo and more.

Each night of the event, the 19th Hole overtakes all 120,000-square feet of the Myrtle Beach Convention Center, providing participants with free food and drinks, live entertainment, celebrity guest appearances, a golf expo and more. Among the big names that have appeared at the 19th Hole in recent years are David Feherty, Brandel Chamblee, Charlie Rymer and John Daly.

Players will also receive a gift bag that includes a polo, a pullover, a golf towel, a logo’d hat, a PGA Tour Superstore gift card and an assortment of other goodies valued cumulatively at $250.

(AKRON, Ohio) – Firestone Country Club, renowned as one of North America’s most historic venues for championship golf, hosted the 2021 Ambassador of Golf award ceremony on June 24, with Former President George W. Bush accepting the honor.

The Ambassador of Golf Award honors a person who has fostered the ideals of the game on an international level and whose concern for others extends beyond the golf course.

Bush, who was the 43rd President of the United States from 2001-2009, has done tremendous work for the game of golf, even during his presidency. Bush has served as the Honorary Chair of the First Tee since 2012, taking over for his father, President George H. W. Bush. In that role, he provides leadership and support of the First Tee’s mission to impact the lives of young people by providing educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values and promote healthy choices through the sport.

President George H. W. Bush also received the Ambassador of Golf Award in 1994, and the two became the first father-son duo to be named Award honorees in its 39-year history. Chi Chi Rodriguez was the inaugural award recipient in 1981; others bestowed the honor include Byron Nelson (1983), President Gerald Ford (1985), Barbara Nicklaus (1990), Ben Hogan and Sam Snead (2000) and Fred Couples (2019).

“President Bush has always been a longtime contributor to golf, and exemplifies the qualities of a true ambassador for the sport,” says General Manager Jay Walkinshaw. “We were honored to host President Bush for this event and it was a delight to hear him talk about everything from his presidency to his passion for golf.”

CBS Sports commentator Jim Nantz, former U.S. Open champion Hale Irwin and professional golfer and current Golf Channel / NBC Sports commentator Peter Jacobsen conducted a roundtable discussion on the South Course prior to the the Ambassador Dinner, and praised Firestone for its history and challenge.

“You know if you win at Firestone, it means something,” Jacobsen said. “When you can say you won here, that is really important.”

Considered one of the most revered sites in professional golf – and now open to non-members through stay-and-play experiences – Firestone has welcomed the game’s biggest stars for decades. Its flagship layout, the South Course, has hosted three PGA Championships, numerous World Golf Championships (including eight victories by Tiger Woods) and is the current site of the Bridgestone SENIOR PLAYERS Championship. Not to be outdone, its North Course is a venerable Robert Trent Jones design that has also hosted professional tournaments and ranked among the best in the Buckeye State.

Firestone’s exclusive stay-and-play packages include overnight accommodations in the club’s standard club rooms and rounds of golf. Starting at $1,900 per person, the “Monster” Experience includes lodging in the villas for two nights and golf on each of Firestone’s three courses. The South “Bucket List” Experience starts at $1,220 per person and includes an overnight stay and a round of golf per day on the South Course. For those seeking a nostalgic experience, The Legacy Package offers accommodations in the clubhouse’s dormitory-style rooms for two nights and a round of golf on each of Firestone’s three layouts, starting at $1,700 per person.

Golf and lodging upgrades to the guest villas are available with each package at booking, and additional rounds of golf may be included at a fee. Course replays can be added based on availability, and season demand could reflect an increased rate. Other restrictions may apply, and rates do not include service charges, tax or tips.

To book these limited golf packages or for more information, visit https://www.clubcorp.com/clubs/firestone-country-club/stay-play or call 330.245.3280.

Firestone is conveniently located less than an hour from Cleveland Hopkins International Airport and 15 minutes from Akron-Canton Airport. It is also within easy driving distance of other major metropolitan areas such as Chicago, Columbus, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and Detroit. Nearby off-course attractions include the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton and the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.

PGA National Resort & Spa Announces Grand Opening of New ‘Staple Course’

Fun, Family-Friendly Nine-Hole Andy Staples Design Built for Players of All Abilities

(PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla.) – PGA National Resort & Spa – South Florida’s world-class golf, vacation,  culinary, events and spa destination – announces the grand opening of its thrilling and innovative new nine-hole Andy Staples-designed “Staple Course” on June 30.

The festivities for local dignitaries, noted area golfers and media will begin at 10 a.m. with opening remarks, a welcoming champagne toast for attendees, breakfast items, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony by Staples. This will be immediately followed by a shotgun start for those wishing to be among the first to enjoy teeing it up on the new layout along with a hole-in-one contest, raffle prizes, music and more. The Staple Course will open for resort guest and member play on July 1.

Built on the former opening and finishing holes of the property’s Squire layout, The Staple is a bold take on the par-three course concept created for pure enjoyment while highlighted by intriguing fast-and-firm shot corridors, and in some cases, difficult to reach shelves on the dramatic, undulating greens. With hole distances ranging from 48  to 130 yards, The Staple is ideal for fast-paced, joyous rounds while using just a putter and a few short irons.

Additionally crafted for heroic tee-shots with numerous “hole-in-hole” pin locations throughout, The Staple Course’s unique figure-eight configuration with crossing holes at Nos. 2 – 3 and Nos. 7 – 8 provide social interaction meeting points with other players at an outdoor seating experience complete with firepits and a café / bar area.

The Staple is also the perfect setting for golf groups to unwind and relax in a casual setting after playing the resort’s four “traditional” and celebrated 18-hole layouts: The Champion, The Palmer, The Fazio and The Estate courses.

“Our goal for The Staple Course was to combine classic course architecture attributes with a contemporary reimagined approach by highlighting playability, a quicker pace of play, and simply creating an enjoyable golf experience for all,” says Staples. “We think guests are going to love The Staple Course so much they’ll want to play it multiple times in the same day.”

Opening later this summer is PGA National’s highly-anticipated “Match Course,” also created by Staples. Additionally built on the land of the former Squire Course, the 18-hole Match Course promises to display some of the most groundbreaking concepts in golf design while encouraging “match” versus “stroke” play. Both layouts are part of the ongoing $100 million capital revitalization touching every aspect of the celebrated property.

“Andy Staples’ incredible vision for both our new Staple Course and upcoming Match Course are beyond exciting additions to our world-class golf amenities,” says Jane Broderick, PGA National’s Director of Golf. “From playing The Champion Course just like the PGA TOUR superstars do annually in the Honda Classic to savoring the joys of The Staple, we offer an array of exceptional golf courses and amenities few resort destinations can equal.”

A golf lover’s dream location, PGA National also features extraordinary instruction at the David Leadbetter Golf Academy, Dave Pelz Scoring Game School, and the world’s first science-based and statistical data-driven golf training center, Full Process Golf. PGA National also offers state-of-the-art club fitting.

Resort guests can also enjoy the high-tech 33,000-square-foot Sports & Racquet Club featuring a wide array of fitness activities and classes, including pickleball and tennis on the 18 Har-Tru tennis courts (11 lit for night play). Not to be missed is a visit to The Spa to enjoy its luxurious and soothing wellness treatments.

Sea Pines Country Club’s Racquet Facilities Ranked 14th in the U.S. by Club + Resort Business

(HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C.)
– The tennis and pickleball center at Sea Pines Country Club, Hilton Head Island’s distinguished private club, is ranked among the “Top 45 Racquet Facilities in the U.S.” by Club + Resort Business (C+RB), coming in at 14 on the inaugural list.

In recognizing the club’s market-leading facilities, C+RB stated: “With a widely established reputation in local tennis circles as the preeminent facility on the Island, Sea Pines Country Club’s seven lighted and meticulously groomed Har-Tru clay courts provide members of all levels an unparalleled playing field for expert private instruction and clinics, fun-filled junior summer camps, and spirited competitive team programs.”

In addition to its premier tennis offerings, the club installed a USA Pickleball Association regulation surface in 2020, creating a four-court pickleball facility for its members to enjoy America’s fastest-growing sport. A new Pickleball Patio featuring outdoor furniture, umbrellas, comfort stations and an information board for clinics and tournaments was also part of the project.

“Tennis has always been an integral part of our DNA, and Hilton Head Island has long been one of the tennis capitals of the world,” says Robbie Ames, Sea Pines Country Club general manager and chief operating officer. “The addition of the pickleball courts combined with the recent expansion of and enhancements to our Tennis Shoppe really raised the bar.”

Sea Pines Country Club’s racquet sports program is led by longtime Director of Tennis Matt Wuller, Tennis Professional Dave Gleason and Assistant Tennis Professional Graeme Joffe. The department is known for its creative programming, including tennis socials like Cheeseburger in Paradise, the Mardi Gras Tennis Event, and “The Woody Tournament,” a wooden racquet soiree paying homage to Wimbledon and the game’s roots, replete with strawberries & cream and champagne.

“This is a tremendous honor from Club + Resort Business and our industry peers, and I’m extremely proud of our dedicated team of professionals,” Wuller says. “I’d also like to recognize our members, who are unfailingly committed to tennis and pickleball.”

A family-focused lifestyle club, there are approximately 15 juniors in Sea Pines Country Club’s year-round tennis program. The summer junior program has approximately 100 to 125 kids participating in a seven-week program, while the afterschool program hosts between 10 and 15 kids per session.

C+RB’s rankings reflect its judges’ scoring of data provided on the types (tennis, pickleball, squash, paddle and racquetball) and number of courts at the property; retail and food & beverage square footage for racquet-specific facilities; average total monthly plays; member usage (% of total membership); number of interclub teams and junior players; full-time, part-time and contract staff; photos and more. The panel of judges was made up of club professionals from several of the industry’s most-respected properties and a leader in the world of racquet sports.

Earlier this year, Sea Pines Country Club’s Fitness Center was ranked among the “Top 50 Fitness and Wellness Centers in the U.S.” by C+RB. Also designated one of “America’s Healthiest Clubs” by Prevo Health Solutions, the club is unequivocally committed to the well-being of its members and employees.

Racing the Storm at the Driving Range

I almost got caught up in a storm at my recent range session, but managed to finish the bucket of balls before the rains came.

One thing I noticed ... I perform very badly immediately following a thunder clap.

WGA Adds New University for Evans Scholars as Part of Ongoing Expansion

Two Maryland caddies to attend UMD on full tuition and housing Evans Scholarships; ESF purchases property to serve as future Caves Valley Evans Scholars Scholarship House

(GLENVIEW, IL) — The Western Golf Association’s (WGA) acclaimed Evans Scholars Foundation (ESF) today announced its inaugural class of Evans Scholars who will begin attending the University of Maryland, College Park, as incoming freshmen this fall. The ESF also has purchased a building near campus, which will serve as the future home of the Caves Valley Evans Scholars Scholarship House.

The addition of Maryland is part of an ongoing expansion plan in the East for the Evans Scholars Program, which provides full tuition and housing college scholarships to high-achieving golf caddies across the nation who come from limited financial means. To qualify, students must display outstanding records of caddying, academics and character and leadership. Currently, 1,045 students nationwide are attending 19 top universities on Evans Scholarships.

The newly awarded Evans Scholars who will attend the University of Maryland, College Park, this fall are incoming freshmen Varada Maulkhan and Rebecca Lannon.

Varada, from Baltimore, graduated from Catonsville High School as an honor roll student, Diversity Club Vice President, peer tutor and a Varsity golfer. Her parents are immigrants from Guyana, and she was introduced to the game of golf through First Tee-Greater Baltimore at the age of 8. She displayed her strong work ethic as a caddie at Baltimore Country Club and Caves Valley Golf Club. She plans to major in history and secondary education at UMD in the fall.

Rebecca, from Timonium, graduated from Dulaney High School as a member of student government and Future Business Leaders of America, as well as a three-sport athlete in soccer, lacrosse and track and field. She caddied for three years at Baltimore Country Club and has an older sister who also earned the Evans Scholarship. Rebecca plans to study music technology at UMD.

“We are thrilled to send our first Evans Scholars to Maryland, as well as to complete the purchase of the future Caves Valley Evans Scholars Scholarship House,” said WGA Chairman Kevin Buggy. “This is a critical next step as we expand the reach of the Evans Scholars Program and its life-changing impact on the East Coast.”

A unique component of the Evans Scholars Program is the positive community living experience provided to students in the scholarship houses. Scholarship house living teaches students valuable life skills in communication, leadership, mentoring, and provides a strong sense of community. The buildings provide a substance-free setting where students become confident leaders on and off campus, while studying in a safe, state-of-the-art living and learning environment.

Work will begin soon on renovating the future Caves Valley Evans Scholars Scholarship House, which is located three blocks from the University of Maryland campus on College Avenue in the historic Old Town neighborhood. The Scholarship House is expected to open in 2024 and will be the Program’s 18th Evans Scholarship House. The two Evans Scholars will live together in a university residence hall until the renovation is complete.

The purchase of the property was made possible by a commitment of a lead gift of $2 million by the Caves Valley Golf Club Foundation. The significant investment also helped secure several additional major commitments toward the cost and future renovation of the house.

“We are proud to have partnered in creating the Caves Valley Evans Scholars Scholarship House at the University of Maryland,” said Steven Fader, Chairman of the Caves Valley Golf Club and Trustee of the Caves Valley Golf Club Foundation. “The unique scholarship house living environment that the Evans Scholars will all share during their four years at the University of Maryland will provide a positive experience that will forever shape their lives as successful students and leaders.  We eagerly await the first group of remarkable and deserving students to move into their new home. This will begin a proud new tradition of Evans Scholars at the University of Maryland.”

ESF leaders will work closely with architects, local and state officials and university leaders to renovate the existing structure to meet Evans Scholars housing standards while also adhering to historic preservation guidelines. Upon renovation and project completion, the building will provide housing for scholarship recipients who will live and learn together for the duration of their college career.

In addition, the 2021 BMW Championship, a PGA TOUR FedExCup Playoff event that is run by the WGA will be held Aug. 23-29 at Caves Valley Golf Club outside Baltimore, raising awareness and funds to support the work and positive impact of the ESF.

Independent Tests By Golf Lab Show Zero Friction Golf Tee Produces Longer, Straighter Drives

(OAKBROOK TERRACE, IL)
– An independent test conducted by Golf Laboratories of Carlsbad, CA, shows that Zero Friction Golf Tees outperform traditional wood tees in regards to distance and accuracy.  Zero Friction is a maker of high quality, technologically advanced products for golfers worldwide, including the first and only performance tee to ever carry the PGA TOUR logo.

The Golf Laboratories’ servo driven robot is the industry standard for robotic testing of equipment. It conducted the test on June 10 using a Callaway GBB 2 driver with a 60 firm shaft.

Zero Friction’s 3-Prong Tee outperformed the wood tee in both distance and accuracy. Shots using the Zero Friction 3-Prong averaged 255 yards, compared to 250 for the wood tee shots. And on average the dispersion was 7 feet for Zero Friction and 14 feet for the wood tee, an improvement of 50 percent.

“We’ve known all along that our performance tees were at the top of the performance market,” said Zero Friction Founder John Iacono. “This independent test by the very reputable Golf Laboratories just confirms that for us. Our tees can make a difference in your game.”

Along with being better for your score, Zero Friction Golf Tees are also good for the environment. They are made from bio composite ABS & (corn-based) plastic, not wood, which eliminates the need to cut down trees. Corn is broken down into small pellets of Polylactide (PLA) that then becomes the building blocks for the plastic to make ZF Tees. Corn is re-harvested annually. For wood tees, a white birch tree takes 60 to 70 years to mature and 40,000 wood tees can be produced from one tree. A total of 2.8 billion tees are consumed annually in the USA and this requires 70,000 mature trees per year.

Zero Friction tees also degrade faster in the sun’s UV rays and in compost. They can also be broken down and recycled. ZF Tees are long lasing and can be re-used. Because of their durability, tee boxes and practice ranges are much cleaner as golfers pick up tees that do not break.

The average golfer uses 7 wood tees per 18-hole round versus a ZF composite tee, which is generally 1. Thus, you have a 7:1 ratio. That requires a lot of added purchasing of tees.

“So not only do our Zero Friction tees outperform their wood counterparts and are more eco-friendly, but they can also save money for the customers,” said Iacono.

The new 3” Turf Tee by Zero Friction places a divot repair tool into each tee and golfer’s hand that will enable golfers to properly repair divots. The 3” length makes it simple to manage tee inventory while providing proper universal height.

Inventory management is a key to most of the Zero Friction products. All the models in the popular and colorful ZF glove line are universal fit gloves that mold to your hand for a guaranteed fit. The true advantage of the Zero Friction glove line for retailers is that the universal fit means shops do not have to carry a huge inventory of sizes. Instead, the shops can offer a large selection of colors.

Zero Friction benefits golf shops with a creative selection of packaging, including the SuperTubes, which received the ING Industry Honors Product Ingenuity award for its packaging of color-matched glove, Spectra distance golf balls and tees.

Zero Friction also has logo capabilities including logo golf balls, gloves, and tees, which has experienced significant growth this past year. Licensed gloves and Supertubes featuring NFL, MLB, NHL and the top 20 collegiate teams will also have a dedicated section.

Zero Friction recently entered the golf laser rangefinder segment in a big way with its Zero Friction Laser Pro and Laser Pro SM products. And like most Zero Friction products, this one has a unique element that separates it from the competitors.

Both Zero Friction Laser Pro models come with a pistol shape rubber handle grip, making it very simple to get yardage for your next shot. Simply aim and click, and the exact distance appears on an easy-to-read LCD display magnified X6.

New Colors, Distinctive Flair Highlight the ahead Spring 2022 Apparel Line

(NEW BEDFORD, Mass.)
— With the rollout of its Spring 2022 apparel for men and women, ahead continues to deliver on current trends, exciting colors, and wearable performance.

Ahead’s men’s seasonal offering includes three new men’s collections, introducing first-time colors paired with timeless hues to provide an elevated yet athletic look. A vibrant combination of raspberry, black and carbon come together in a well merchandised collection highlighted by the Berkshire, a chest stripe tying all of the colors together.

In addition to the Dillon multi-stripe and Vineyard grapevine tone-on-tone print, the collection goes to the next level with the Cocktails polo, a craft cocktail-themed microprint of vodka bottles, martini glasses, and olives. Chuck Lord, ahead’s chief creative officer, said the company has found a popular niche with the microprint shirts as they’re viewed as a fun wardrobe addition to complement the sport’s more traditional look.

The second men’s offering sees a light blue aptly named haze with a light coral palisade grounded with true navy.  The Cascade brings the current tie dye trend to a golf polo with the tie dye pattern of haze and navy crossing the chest and accented by a bolt of palisade and is the highlight piece of the group.

The third collection marks the debut of two new colors for men – dusk (purple) and spray (teal). Combined with steel, the collection features solids, stripes, and multi patterns for a sophisticated yet athletic appearance.  The Havana, a muted plaid combining shades of dusk and steel and the Durango mini print in spray serve to anchor the group.

“We’re ushering in some new colors and adding some flair to our men’s shirts for Spring 2022,” Lord said. “One thing that resonates with our customers—‘Look good, feel good, play good.’ We’ve tried to cater to that mindset.”

Several new styles and colors have been added to ahead’s array of mid-layer options. The Firestone features a heathered camouflage print in both navy and white. Among the new outerwear options are two new attractive color combinations for the Campbell short-sleeve half-zip wind shirt—slate/carbon and stone/steel.

The t-shirt collection also has some exciting additions.  The Chapman garment dye short-sleeve t-shirts is available in nine great colors, including a red called lobster, a nod to ahead’s New England roots.  Spring ’22 also brings a long sleeve version to the best-selling “instant classic” t-shirt offering, engineered to get that well-loved look in just a few washings.

Kate Lord

Two new Spring ’22 collections for Kate Lord focus on athleisure pieces that look equally attractive on and off the course. The first collection blends ballet (pink) with carbon, and features two eye-catching prints, a carbon snakeskin and a muted multi print featuring all of the colors in the group.  Both prints are used throughout the collection in a multitude of fun yet wearable ways.

The second Kate Lord collection offers a feminine interpretation of camouflage in a shade of wearable lilac paired with white. The Pleasant View long sleeve overknit features flattering cinched ruching at the side seams while the Sedalia takes a white polo to the next level with unexpected hem detail utilizing a semi sheer fabrication.

Three new patterns make their debut for Spring ’22 in the Idalia sun shirt—tie-dye brush, cloud camo, and a brush plaid that offers a vibrant combination of pinks and oranges.

Ahead continues to set the bar for ladies’ lifestyle wear with the new Autumn full zip with ribbed detail on the sleeves and side panel.

A premium membership to Junior Golf Hub, which tracks a player’s growth and development as they move through their junior golf journey, is not only a beneficial tool for the burgeoning young golfers but it also hosts an invaluable suite of resources and education that supports parents throughout the complicated process of recruiting.

For those still seeking their perfect fit, JGH has a “Find a College” function with filters that narrow down results based on the program’s scoring average, acceptable test scores, tuition, majors offered, size of enrollment and more. College golf hopefuls are instantly notified in the JGH app when a collegiate program starts following them.

The online platform also offers a vast library of resources designed as a step-by-step guide to the college golf recruiting process through its blog, HitTheLinks, and the Essential Guide. The Essential Guide covers the key milestones and topics of the process, including communication with coaches, scholarship breakdown, research tips, a rules and regulations guide and more.

To date, nearly 10,000 athletes have created a profile on JGH, while more than 1,000 members have gone on to play golf at an NCAA DI, DII, DIII or NAIA school. The current collegiate database consists of 2,300 men’s and women’s golf programs.

To sign up, download the Junior Golf Hub App in the App Store or Google Play Store or access the platform and learn more at www.juniorgolfhub.com. For questions about the Junior Golf Hub, contact Rick Dowling at rick@juniorgolfhub.com or call 203.530.9342.

The 54-hole, stroke play event, which will cater to high level amateurs, will have men’s and women’s divisions, with an emphasis on collegiate players and recent graduates looking to keep their game sharp. Men and women will each have an open division and a mid-am flight for players 25 and older.

All players must be at least 15 years old and have a handicap index of 5.0 or below. Entry into the tournament is $275 and the field will be capped at 120 players.
