Traveling Golfer Takes a Step Back in Time at Luxurious Omni Bedford Spring Resort

(PHILADELPHIA, Pa.) – Imagine stepping into a time machine and being transported back 100 or more years into the past … but still being able to take all of the modern conveniences and luxury accoutrements with you. That is what a trip to the Omni Bedford Springs Resort in south-central Pennsylvania is like.

The Omni Bedford Springs Resort has a rich historic past. People have been coming to the area for its healthy mineral springs since the 1790s. Soon after a hotel was built, then one of America’s oldest golf courses was added. In recent years the entire property has undergone an amazing renaissance.

For all of those reasons, the Omni Bedford Springs Resort will be featured in the October episode of the award-winning Traveling Golfer television show.

“We are very proud of the continued progress that has been made here, ever since the historic restoration and reopening of the hotel in 2007,” says Dave Nostrand, general manager at Bedford Springs. “This property was a natural treasure that fell on hard times. After spending $120 million on the renovation, it was restored to its former greatness.”

The hotel was visited by 12 U.S. presidents over the years – including James Buchanan, who made it his summer White House. To commemorate the reopening in 2007, President George W. Bush became the latest president to visit.

Of more importance to golfers is the fact that the golf course at Bedford Springs is one of the oldest in America. Over the years it had holes designed by Spencer Oldham, A.W. Tillinghast and Donald Ross. In 2007, the Pittsburgh-based design team led by Ron Force was brought in to do a major renovation of the golf course. Since then, Bedford Springs has consistently been ranked among the top three daily fee courses in the state.

“I have been fortunate to play Bedford Springs a number of times since the renovation and it keeps getting better and better each time,” recalls Traveling Golfer host, Tony Leodora. “When we shot this latest show, in June, the course was in the best condition of any course I have played this year.”
