(VIDEO) — Why do golf balls have dimples? Do they have any influence on spin or flight, or are they purely cosmetic? Would a smooth golf ball without dimples fly farther?
These are just a few questions that we hear frequently from golfers, so we decided share a video from the Titleist vault that provides all the answers.
Meet Nick Nardacci, our resident aerodynamics expert in golf ball R&D, who shows just what dimples do with the help of a robotic hitter and some unusual design modifications that his team applied to the cover of a standard Pro V1 golf ball.
Enjoy the video! We hope Nick's demonstration gives you a better understanding of how a golf ball flies and a deeper appreciation for the important role that dimples play in the overall performance of your golf ball.
