Colonial Country Club
Bobby Jones Links has been selected to manage a pair of North Carolina clubs—Colonial Country Club in Thomasville and Cleveland Country Club in Shelby.

First opened in 1973, Colonial Country Club features an 18-hole Gene Hamm-designed golf course, open for member play year-round. The par-71 course features Bermuda greens and 6,600 yards of rolling fairways with 75 bunkers. C+RB reported on Colonial’s course renovation in 2014.

Additional member amenities include four lighted clay tennis courts, a full-size pool, a separate wading pool for toddlers, and an array of social events catered to members of all ages. Dining options at Colonial Country Club feature a dining room and bar area.

“Our Board is committed to providing our members with an extraordinary club experience,” said Dan Outlaw, President of the Colonial Country Club Board of Directors. “I am excited that Bobby Jones Links will bring proven management and efficiency to our daily operations to ensure we meet that goal. I am looking forward to a great partnership.”

“We are honored to welcome Colonial Country Club to the Bobby Jones Links family,” said Steve Willy, Co-Founder of Bobby Jones Links. “We look forward to sharing our industry expertise with the Colonial Country Club Board of Directors in order to enhance the club lifestyle and elevate the value of a membership.”

Located between the city of Charlotte and the serene mountains of Asheville, Cleveland Country Club is one of the most historic country clubs in the area.

“The Cleveland Country Club is in the midst of a renaissance with a member-driven effort to revitalize, reenergize and reimagine a club that was established in 1927, the very same year that Bobby Jones won the 62nd Open Championship at the Old Course in St. Andrews, Scotland,” said David Teddy, President of the Cleveland Country Club. “Aligning our club with the iconic Bobby Jones brand and the business values and hospitality standards that Mr. Jones embraced is a smart move for our club.

“The Bobby Jones Links partnership is yet another step in our quest to make the Cleveland Country Club relevant to the next generation,” he added. “With the addition of the Bobby Jones Links team we believe we have hit a grand slam.”

Established in 1927, Cleveland Country Club offers its members a private club experience with a unique blend of Southern hospitality. The historic club features a par-72, 18-hole golf course with newly renovated bunkers and spans 6,409 yards with a 71.2 USGA golf course rating. Club members have access to the full-service pro shop, golf lounge, card room, putting and chipping facility, golf lessons and clinics, tennis instruction for juniors and adults, and a full schedule of tournament and events.

Cleveland Country Club is home to a top-notch tennis facility equipped with seven Har-Tru clay courts and two hard courts. Tennis instruction for juniors and adults is led by Tim Wilkison, a local native who rose to become a nationally recognized tennis star honing his game on club’s original red clay courts. Wilkison was the No. 1 ranked junior in the United States and went on to play professionally for more than 25 years. His accomplishments include winning six singles titles and nine doubles championships. In 2020, Wilkison will open the Tim Wilkison Tennis Academy making the Cleveland Country Club the premier teaching facility in Western North Carolina.

Additional member amenities include a community swimming pool, The Cleveland Grille which offers indoor and outdoor dining, and an array of exciting social events catered to members of all ages.

“We are thrilled to welcome Cleveland Country Club to the Bobby Jones Links family,” said Willy. “We look forward to working with Mr. Teddy and the Board of Directors regarding the substantial capital improvements they have planned for the club and in making the member experience even better.”
