Puerto Rico Golf and Hospitality Venues Garner 'Best-of' Acclaim

Honors Bestowed for “Top Caribbean Courses” and “Best New Boutique Hotel of the Year” Lists

(SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO) – Six Puerto Rico golf venues have garnered the distinction of being voted onto “Golfweek's Best 2019: Top 50 Mexico & Caribbean Courses.”

Twenty of the list members are from Mexico and Costa Rica, meaning the six Puerto Rico courses rank in the Caribbean’s finest 30 places to play. The six courses are:
- Royal Isabela, Links Course, designed by David Pfaff and Charlie and Stanley Pasarell
- Palmas del Mar, Flamboyan Course, designed by Rees Jones
- TPC Dorado Beach, East Course, by Robert Trent Jones Sr., renovated by RTJ Jr.
- Palmas del Mar, Palm Course, designed by Gary Player
- St. Regis Bahia Beach, designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr.
- The Resort at Coco Beach (a Hyatt affiliated hotel), Championship Course, by Tom Kite

The courses are located throughout the Island – from the northwestern tip to the East Coast – with several in between. In addition to providing inspired layouts accentuating tropical splendor and ocean views, the courses are public access and renowned for welcoming conviviality and first-class service. There are 17 courses in Puerto Rico, all open to the public and breathtakingly scenic.

“Puerto Rico courses comprising 20 percent of a Top 30 list of Caribbean courses is testament to the superb quality of our Island as a golf destination,” said Leah Chandler, Discover Puerto Rico, Chief Marketing Officer. “Fall is a value-laden time for golf travelers to enjoy exceptional deals at our courses, hotels, and resorts.”

To determine these “best-in-kind” rankings, the 850-plus members of Golfweek’s course-ratings panel continually evaluate courses and rate them based on 10 criteria.

Puerto Rico is an enchanting destination where history, culture, gastronomy, nightlife, beaches, hotels and resorts abound. It requires no passport for American citizens, is bilingual, uses the U.S. dollar for currency, and is the air hub of the Caribbean. There are more than 4,000 restaurants, and the lodging venues range from top hospitality brands to a top 10 Airbnb world destination.

One of the newest lodging choices is O:LV Fifty Five Hotel in San Juan. It was voted “New Boutique Hotel of the Year” by Caribbean Journal. In announcing the distinction, the Journal wrote: “Puerto Rico’s newest boutique hotel is also the sexiest hotel in the Caribbean right now, with a contemporary, voluptuous, avant-garde design that takes the best of urban hotels in New York or London and inserts them into a spirited Puerto Rican environment. From the rooftop hot tub with a view of the Condado Lagoon to Chef Mario Pagan’s superb Raya restaurant, it’s a destination boutique hotel in the heart of Condado, one of the Caribbean’s capitals of chic.”
