Wilson Staff's Mike Small Named National Coach of the Year

(CHICAGO) - Wilson Advisory Staff member and University of Illinois Men’s Head Coach Mike Small was named Dave Williams National Head Coach of the Year today by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) in conjunction with Golf Pride Grips.

The announcement came after another strong season for the fighting Illini. After claiming their third-straight NCAA Regional title, Coach Small and his team advanced to the NCAA Championships for the third year in a row and claimed the number one seed before heading into match play.

“Small yet again pushed his team to new limits and continues to be a leader in the national collegiate scene,” stated President of Wilson Golf, Tim Clarke. “Having him join the Wilson Advisory Staff provides our brand exposure from one of the most trusted coaches in DI golf to the country’s best young athletes.”

“Our 2014-2015 season was strong and steady,” commented Small, who joined the Wilson Staff brand in 2010 and had a large role in the development of the Wilson Staff FG Tour 100 blade irons, which he uses in competition to remain one of the best players in Illinois history.

“We are looking forward to what Small will accomplish this summer in his quest for more accolades within his own game,” said Clarke. “In addition to the spotlight he brings to his alma mater, he sheds equal light on the growth of golf within Illinois and beyond.”
