Former Bama star Nick Rousey puts beatdown in Fayetteville at All-American Championship

Member earns Air Capital Classic and Digital Ally Open exemptions at Gates Four Golf & Country Club

(Fayetteville, N.C.) – When Nick Rousey, out of Pensacola, Fla., finished just outside the top 75 on the 2014 Web.com Tour money list he wasn’t quite sure when he’d get his starts on the number two tour this season. Now, thanks to his win at this past week’s SwingThought Tour All-American Championship at Gates Four Golf & Country Club, Rousey knows where and when he’ll be playing at least two of those events; June 25th through 28th at the Air Capital Classic in Wichita and August 6th through 9th at the Digital Ally Open in Overland Park. The former Alabama star, who won back to back National Championships at Central Alabama before transferring, led the event from start to finish and, in doing so, earned both exemptions in addition to the first place prize check worth $20,000. You see the winner of the event was to have his choice of the two exemptions with the 36-hole leader receiving the other. In a week that saw Rousey open with a low 64 and follow with a course record tying 62, no one could catch the Web member who has conditional status this season. The 1st place prize check was nice but maybe more important to Rousey are the exemptions.

“I’m thankful to the SwingThought Tour and the opportunity the tour provides us players to earn these Web.com exemptions,” explained Rousey, “I am very fortunate to have earned both and I look forward to representing the tour to the best of my abilities at each event.”

While Rousey finished the event winning by 4 shots, Sweden’s Jeff Karlsson, who starred at Kennesaw State, tried to make a run final day. Starting the day seven strokes back, Karlsson closed the gap to 3 after eagling the par 13th hole. That would be as close as anyone would get as the pair matched scores until Rousey birdied 17 to go up by 4 heading into 18. There Rousey put his approach shot 10 feet and 2 putted for par and the win. Rousey shot a final round 70 while Karlsson finished with a 67. However it was Armstrong Atlantic alum Chris Wolfe who would make the big move of the day. Playing in the third to last group, Wolfe made 4 birdies on his front nine followed by five on the back to shoot a final round 63 and move up from tied 7th to solo 3rd. Two-time PGA Tour Latinoamerica winner Timothy O’Neal out of Jackson State finished tied for 4th with Web member Jason Millard out of Middle Tennessee State and 2013 Reno-Tahoe Open exemption winner Justin Lower out of Malone.

Rousey received $20,000 for the win while Karlsson received $9,995 for runner-up. Wolfe earned $7,995 for finishing solo 3rd. Lower, Millard, and O’Neal earned $5,862 each for finishing tied for fourth. The purse for the event was $140,000 with 56 players making the two day cut to play Friday and Saturday.

The SwingThought Tour would like to thank General Manager Kevin Lavertu, Head Professional Scooter Buhrman, Head Superintendent Shawn Kerr, and the entire staff and volunteers at Gates Four Golf and Country Club for once again conducting one of the top events on the SwingThought Tour Pro Series schedule.

The SwingThought Tour heads to Snow Hill, N.C. June 8th through 14th for the Cutter Creek Classic to be held at the championship Cutter Creek Golf Club. 2012 co-Rookie of the Year Ken Looper returns as defending champion of the 4-day 72-hole event that features $140,000 Purse with $20,000 going to the winner. Tournament play begins Thursday June 11th and continues through to the Final Round Sunday June 14th with a special sponsor’s pro-am tournament to be held Wednesday Jun 10th. The low 55 players & ties after 36-holes make the cut to play the final two rounds Saturday and Sunday. Don’t Miss one of the best venues played anywhere in developmental golf and home to par 3 3rd hole labeled the Beast of the East.
