Desert Mountain Names New Director of Racket Sports

(Scottsdale, Ariz.) – Ryan Johnson has been named Director of Racket Sports at Desert Mountain, it was announced by Damon DiOrio, CEO, Desert Mountain Club.

Formerly the Director of Tennis at Camelback Village Racquet and Health Club in Phoenix, Johnson’s new responsibilities will include all tennis and pickleball programming, managing the professional staff, and overseeing member clinics, leagues, social events, and activities.

“We are thrilled to have Ryan join our Desert Mountain family,” said Arnaldo Cocuzza, Director of Athletics and the Sonoran Clubhouse.  “His experience and tennis abilities are perfectly suited to take our program to a world class level, engaging with all racquet sports.”  Desert Mountain has nine tennis courts and three different playing surfaces (grass, clay, and hard court), as well as 6 pickleball courts.

Johnson has also worked at the Seattle Tennis Club and the Olde Providence Racquet Club. He also served as graduate assistant coach of the men’s tennis team at the University of Arizona (Tucson).

He is a member of the United State Professional Tennis Association, Professional Tennis Registry and USA Pickleball Association.  He is a New Balance Ambassador and part of the Wilson Advisory staff team.

A graduate of the University of North Carolina, Charlotte, Johnson was a scholarship tennis player and team captain.  He remains in the top 10 in program history for most single season double wins.  Additionally, Johnson holds a law degree from the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law and has worked as an attorney in both Seattle and Charlotte.
