Tiger Woods may have missed this year’s Masters, but his imprint on Augusta is stronger than ever. Augusta National Golf Club, in partnership with The First Tee, has tapped Woods to design a new short course at Augusta Municipal Golf Course — affectionately known as “The Patch.”
The project, announced earlier this year by Augusta National chairman Fred Ridley, is part of a sweeping renovation of the historic muni. Woods’ design, now officially unveiled, will be called The Loop at The Patch.
The nine-hole layout, set along Damascus Road beside a local airport runway, will feature nine par-3 holes. Early glimpses on social media hinted at Augusta-like touches — pristine turf, signature white-sand bunkers, and Woods himself touring the site — but renderings had always blurred the routing. That changed Thursday, when The Patch’s Instagram account revealed the first clear look at Woods’ design.
A central feature of the project honors Augusta native Jim Dent, one of the game’s pioneering Black professionals who learned the game at The Patch. A road named Jim Dent Way will run between the airport and the new course, leading to a modern clubhouse positioned between the short course and the municipal’s main 18.
The development also includes a 25,000-square-foot putting course, expanded practice areas, and a dedicated short game facility for The First Tee. Construction is underway, with workers already sprigging greens and shaping features for a planned 2026 opening.
