Second Win in Three Weeks for McCarron;
Five Players Using Exotics in the Top 25 in Texas
(RELEASE) — Exotics staff player Scott McCarron won the 2019 Insperity Invitational on the PGA Tour Champions Sunday playing a Tour Edge Exotics 19-degree CBX 119 hybrid.
McCarron, who wears a Tour Edge Exotics logo on his sleeve, played his Exotics hybrid to perfection, using it off the tee and off the deck to lead him to several birdies out of the 20 total birdies he posted for the event. His 17 under par performance set a new course record for the Insperity Invitational at The Woodlands Country Club.
The victory is the fourth victory on the PGA Tour Champions for McCarron since switching to Exotics in 2018. He has won two times in the last three weeks and now has six Top 5 finishes on the young PGA Tour Champions season.
McCarron became the 38th player in PGA Tour Champions history to win 10 events on the tour that was founded in 1980.
It is the third victory of the 2019 PGA Tour Champions season for a player with Exotics in play after nine events played.
Exotics CBX clubs have now been a part of nine victories and 11 runner-up finishes on the PGA Tour Champions since collecting the first win at the 2018 Chubb Classic. This means Exotics clubs have finished 1st or 2nd in 20 of the last 34 PGA TOUR Champions events (58%).
“It was great to see McCarron hit his Exotics CBX 119 hybrid so well this weekend to help him to his 2nd victory in three weeks,” said Tour Edge President and Master Club Designer David Glod. “Thanks to Scott, we have kept this amazing hot streak going with 20 1st or 2nd place finishes in the last 34 Champions events. That stat makes me very proud as a club designer.”
McCarron, the current No. 1 ranked player in the PGA Tour Champions, had a three shot lead after the 2nd round after posting a tournament best 7-under 65. He shot a 67 Sunday to secure the victory and add to his lead as the top ranked golfer on the PGA Tour Champions.
McCarron’s 19-degree Exotics CBX hybrid has a Project X Even Flow Black shaft, the same shaft that is available to consumers as a stock offering in the CBX 119 line.
Exotics staff player Tom Lehman finished 6th in Texas this week playing three Exotics clubs; an Exotics CBX 119 3–wood, an Exotics CBX 119 18-degree hybrid and Exotics CBX No. 3 Iron-Wood. Lehman won the season-opening event in Hawaii with an Exotics CBX 119 hybrid and a CBX Iron-Wood and currently ranks 5th in the Charles Schwab Cup money standings.
Five total players using Exotics clubs finished in the Top 25 at the Insperity Invitational. A 13th place finisher played an Exotics CCBX 119 hybrid and a 15th place finisher played a CBX 119 3-wood. Exotics staffer finished 20th with his Exotics CBX 119 in play.
After nine events on the 2019 PGA Tour Champions season, Exotics metalwoods have been in play for three victories, eight Top 5 finishes, 13 Top 10 finishes and 34 Top 25 finishes.
Tour Edge is keeping count of these tour statistics on a tour scoreboard located on www.touredge.com.
The victory represents the sixth Top 5 finish in the last eight events for McCarron, including two wins and a second- and third-place finish.
McCarron finished second overall in the final Charles Schwab Cup standings last season after winning two times with Exotics in the bag in 2018. He has finished in the Top 5 in each of the past three seasons – 2second in 2018, third in 2017 and fourth in 2016.
