Golf Channel Announces Amateur Tour National Championship Dates

Culmination of More than 700 Events in 2017 Hosted by Famed Mission Hills Country Club

(ORLANDO, Fla.) – A year of competition, highlighted by more than 6,500 amateur golfers of all shapes, sizes and skill levels who competed across 750 tournaments in 2017, will culminate at the Golf Channel Am Tour National Championships, Sept. 10-19, at California’s famed Mission Hills Country Club, and Westin Mission Hills Golf Resort & Spa.

The Golf Channel Am Tour National Championships are divided into two events – Open National Championship, Sept. 10-13, and Senior National Championship (ages 50+), Sept. 16-19. Each player in the field will compete on all four courses in the rotation:  Mission Hills Country Club – Dinah Shore Course (host of the ANA Championship LPGA Tour major championship); Mission Hills Country Club – Pete Dye Challenge Course; Westin Mission Hills – Gary Player Signature Course; and Westin Mission Hills – Pete Dye Resort Course.

The format for both the open and senior division championships is a 72-hole, individual stroke-play competition with no cut. Twelve competitors in six flights – six from the senior division and six from the open division – will be crowned national champions in official awards ceremonies immediately following the conclusion of their respective tournaments.

Several NBC Sports/Golf Channel on-air personalities will participate in the National Championships welcome dinners, including David Feherty, NBC Sports golf analyst and host of his eponymous Golf Channel show, who will entertain competitors with his unique brand of humor during the open division dinner on Sept. 9. Martin Hall and Blair O’Neil, hosts of the Golf Channel instructional show, School of Golf, will attend the senior division welcome dinner on Sept. 15.

The Westin Mission Hills Golf Resort & Spa will serve as the host hotel for the competitors and their families, as well as for both welcome dinners. This is the first time the Golf Channel Am Tour National Championships will be held at Westin Mission Hills, but marks the fifth time the event has taken place in Palm Springs (PGA West in 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015). Other host venues have included TPC Sawgrass (2010, 2012), Grayhawk Golf Club (2014), and Innisbrook Resort (2016).

Golf Channel Am Tour offers an authentic TOUR quality experience for players of all ages and abilities, as well as an opportunity to compete on top golf courses in your area and around the country and against golfers of similar skill level.  The Tour is accepting sign-ups for the 2018 season on the Golf Channel Am Tour website.
