adidas Golf Releases Fifth Episode of Innovations Video Series

Staff Professional Dustin Johnson and Sport Science Host John Brenkus Step inside the Lab to Explore the Evolution of Golf Footwear

(Carlsbad, Calif.) – adidas Golf, an industry leader in innovation, technology and performance footwear and apparel, has announced the release of the fifth episode in the popular “adidas Golf Innovations” video series. In the penultimate episode, adidas Golf Tour staff professional Dustin Johnson engages in a series of physical demonstrations to visually illustrate how the increased number of contact points experienced by wearing footwear with gripmore® technology affects the traction throughout his swing.

To visually demonstrate how the distribution of weight while wearing footwear with gripmore technology compares favorably with the performance of a traditional cleated shoe, the eight-time PGA TOUR winner’s swing was evaluated using pressure plates, first while wearing his traditional golf footwear and then again in the adicross gripmore, one of two adidas Golf footwear models incorporating gripmore technology.

An evolution in golf footwear, gripmore technology is an innovation in golf footwear cleat design that combines the performance benefits of spiked and spikeless footwear into one revolutionary technology. gripmore cleats are directly injected onto lightweight mesh matting inclusive of hundreds of microspikes for even more traction and stability. In addition to unbelievable grip, both models are among the most green-friendly the company has ever created.

Brenkus, six-time Emmy Award winner, creator of "Sport Science" and New York Times best-selling author of "The Perfection Point", hosts the series that brings the science behind each innovation to life. Tested both with and without the new apparel and footwear for consistency and accuracy, the performance of our Tour athletes captured in the series is closely measured and compared by highly advanced data capturing tools and is presented graphically through a series of unique and engaging videos – one for each of the six key technologies to be unveiled by adidas Golf throughout 2014.

The Traveling Golfer at Wolf Hollow

Wolf Hollow GC and Pocono Attractions Featured on June Traveling Golfer Show

(PHILADELPHIA, Pa.) - There is no use of a "way back machine" or any other science fiction device, but the latest edition of the Traveling Golfer television show is a virtual step back in time. With the assistance of the Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau and Wolf Hollow GC, golfers and interested travelers will feel as they stepped back in time with a visit to a historic inn and golf course, then a guided tour to some of the historic spots along the eastern edge of the Pocono Mountains.

When new owners Shaun and Julie Lyons took over the stewardship of the historic Water Gap CC and Inn they decided to take the course back to its original name - from 1922. Wolf Hollow GC at Water Gap CC now reflects the tradition of the past ... with the added energy and continuing upgrades supplied by the new owners.

"I fell in love with this place the first time I saw it," said Lyons, who spent many youthful summers vacationing in the Pocono area along the Delaware River. "It is one of the most peaceful pieces of property I have ever seen. The course is absolutely beautiful and from the back patio you can see some of the most amazing sunsets in the Poconos."

The course, a quirky tribute to the shotmaking demands of golf in the Roaring Twenties, was once host site for the Eastern Open - a PGA event that brought the likes of Walter Hagen and Gene Sarazen to the resort town of Delaware Water Gap. Efforts are underway to restore the course to its former luster.

As part of the show, viewers will be taken to some of the famous attractions in the area. Scenes of the Delaware Water Gap along the Delaware River are breathtaking. A visit to Bushkill Falls, which has been operating as one of the most popular tourist attractions in the Pocono Mountains since 1904, is a scenic delight. A guided tour on the famous Water Gap Trolley provides a lot of the history of the area.

For a look at something new, there is a stop at TreeVentures, the new high-wire act for guests of all ages. It opened recently at nearby Fernwood Resort.

Traveling Golfer host Tony Leodora remarked, "I can honestly say that the visit to Wolf Hollow and the side trips to area attractions was one of the most relaxing and enjoyable shoots we have encountered. If I could get the feeling of slipping away into the past and enjoying the history, while working, imagine what vacationers can feel."

The episode began airing June 1 and runs throughout the month on The Traveling Golfer Network (see list of sites on www.travelinggolfervideo.com). It also will air on Monday, June 9 as part of the Press Box show in Myrtle Beach, 5 to 7 p.m. on HTC Ch. 4, and as part of the Inside Golf television show on Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia and Comcast SportsNet in Baltimore/Washington during the end of June.

Responding to golfers' never-ending demands to learn more about interesting golf courses and golf resorts across the country and around the world, well-traveled host Tony Leodora created the Traveling Golfer so he could take viewers on video golf trips to some of the most exciting golf locations.

The Traveling Golfer appears as a series of monthly shows hosted by Leodora, who has 15 years of experience in televised golf shows. The featured destination stays on the website for one month, before being replaced by a new show. The old shows are archived on the home website, www.travelinggolfervideo.com.

A network of golf websites, of all sizes, has been created to host the show. The show has its own website -- www.travelinggolfervideo.com. The network of additional websites includes www.golftalklive.net, the website of the award-winning GolfTalk Live radio show that also is hosted by Leodora. Affiliate websites that also air the show are www.myphillygolf.com, www.sportsnetwork.com, www.louguzzi.com, www.yetigolf.net, www.golfbuckscounty.com, www.phillygolffiles.com, www.playaroundgolf.net, www.awaywegogolf.com, mynegm.com, www.golfxpress72.com and americangolfer.blogspot.com.

Gary Player Design Projects Gain Momentum Across Europe

While Asia has recently taken center stage in golf course development, Gary Player Design continues to build upon its impressive global portfolio as European projects push forward in Cyprus and Italy.

The Mediterranean island of Cyprus will soon feature the first ever Gary Player Signature Course as the Limni Golf Resort, located in the mountainous town of Polis on the northwest coast, has formally moved into the detailed design phase.

The Shacolas Group, the largest private commercial group in Cyprus, recently hosted a design workshop together with Gary Player Design and representatives of acclaimed architect Sir Norman Foster, who has been engaged to design residential and resort amenities.

The Limni Golf Resort will prove to be one of the most intriguing courses in the ever-expanding Gary Player Design portfolio. Built upon what was once an operating copper mine, the 800 meter-wide quarry crater has been filled with over eight million cubic meters of earth to make way for the championship course.

“We have nine holes of the course that will be woven through the area that was formerly the copper mine where there will still be about 30 meters of quarry walls exposed,” said Scott Ferrell, President of Gary Player Design.  “The course landscape is sure to offer a unique and dramatic experience.”

Situated in the coastal hills, the site offers dramatic elevation changes that will not only add to the character of the championship course, but offer countless views of the Chrysochou Bay.

“This is one of the most unique and challenging sites that we have ever worked with, but I am confident that this is going to be one of the most special courses in our portfolio,” said Grand Slam champion Gary Player. “I am most excited to see the former ecological eyesore turned into a beautiful, green space for visitors and local golfers to enjoy.”

In addition to the Gary Player Signature Course, the resort will feature an 18-hole course designed by Jack Nicklaus, high-end residential villas, a luxury boutique hotel, sports facilities, and wellness center. As the first and only Player-Nicklaus development in the whole of Europe, Limni Golf Resort will undoubtedly be in a class of its own.

From one stunning location to another, construction has now commenced on Gary Player Design’s newest Italian project, Manzano Golf Resort in Tuscany.

The Gary Player Design project will be the first golf resort in the Tuscan village of Cortona, Italy and will offer a true Tuscan experience with the course routing surrounded by vineyards among the rolling colorful landscape.

The Manzano Golf Resort will also feature a luxury, full-service boutique hotel for the discerning traveler.

The Manzano project will complement the existing Gary Player-designed courses in Italy, including at Donnafugata Golf Resort & Spa, which hosted the 2011 Sicilian Open and was also recently named one of the top courses in the country. The firm also has future plans to design a new course at Is Molas, the popular resort in Sardinia, Italy.

Audubon Country Club to Host Catholic Charities Fun Day

(Naples, Fl.) – Life for impoverished families is difficult at best and the thought of playing sports for their children is often a distant memory. But, for the third straight year, Audubon Country Club will be opening up its beautiful property for many of these disadvantaged youngsters to experience the unabated joy of playing golf and tennis.

The 3rd annual Catholic Charities of Bonita Fun Day will be held on Tuesday, June 3 from 10am – 1pm. Children between the ages of 5 and 12  will hit golf balls on the driving range, test out their putting skills on the practice putting green and do their best Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams imitations on the tennis courts.

The Catholic Charities Fun Day was the brainchild of Audubon Country Club member Micky Brookman and Matthew Zieke of Catholic Charities of Bonita who, along with Brother Ben of St. Leo’s Catholic Church felt there was a desperate need to help the kids in the local community. Many of the schools were being infiltrated by gangs and many of the youth had nowhere to turn their attention to. What better way than to expose them to a way of life away from drugs and violence and focused on the positive influences of sports. The Catholic Charities of Bonita is a year-long program. During the school months, it serves as an after-school enrichment program and during the summer months, it is a day camp program.

“All of our children are from low-income families and due to financial constraints would not be able to play golf or tennis,” said Matthew Zieke, Director of the Catholic Charities of Bonita. “I can’t say enough about what a wonderful partner Audubon Country Club has been for us over the past few years. Their generosity and profound care for our kids is unwavering and truly a blessing for so many.”

The Fun Day event is part of the summer camp handled by St. Leo’s Catholic Church and nearly 50 kids in all, will take part in the activities at Audubon Country Club. Additionally, camp counselors from many of the country’s Christian Brother high schools will be on hand to assist with the program’s many activities. Currently, two students from the University of Notre Dame are part of the Fun Day camp counseling team for the Catholic Charities of Bonita.

“We felt there was a real need to help these kids, an impassioned effort to give them a day of fun in the sun that they normally would not have otherwise,” said Brookman. “All of us Audubon Country Club take a great deal of pride in putting forth our maximum effort to make this day a memorable one for these kids. To see their smiles gives us an incredible sense of purpose and a heart-warming feeling that is indescribable.”

Jack Hrad, general manager of Audubon Country Club along with head tennis professional Carlos Huerta and the Audubon PGA golf staff will lead the kids in the Fun Day activities.

“Giving back to the community means a great deal to us at Audubon Country Club and what better way than to serve the needs of our local youth, the future of our community,” said Hrad.

PING excels at NCAA men’s and women’s golf championships

(PHOENIX) – PING’s significant presence in both team support and equipment played an influential role in the success of men and women at the NCAA Division I Golf Championships. Among the highlights, PING bags were #1 at both tournaments, and the S55 iron was #1 among the men.

PING-supported teams finished 1-2 on the men’s side, with the University of Alabama and Oklahoma State University, respectively, at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan. Both teams wore PING apparel and headwear, carried PING bags, and several players relied on PING clubs. The winner of the individual title utilized an i20 driver.

PING won the driver count, was #1 in all woods played, and was T1 in the iron tally at the women’s championships at Tulsa Country Club in Tulsa, Okla.

“We have been a proud and enthusiastic supporter of college golf for many years, and it’s a thrill to be affiliated with these accomplished teams and the men and women who represent their schools so well,” said John A. Solheim, PING Chairman & CEO. “College is a special time, and these are memories they’ll cherish forever as teammates. We share in their excitement, and we’ll continue to give schools the support and the tools they need to help their teams perform their best.”

Scott Sullivan, Senior Player Development Manager, said PING’s affiliation with a number of college programs has helped the company forge long-lasting relationships. “As a result of our scouting efforts, we’ve been fortunate to follow many of these golfers as they climbed through the amateur ranks,” Sullivan said. “To see them become standout players at elite schools and win titles is gratifying as a company. Whether they go on to play professionally or they pursue other careers, we hope to continue their brand loyalty long-term because it sends a positive message to be associated with influential people.”
