Kuchar Heats up Frigid Arizona Desert with WGC Match Play Victory

Bridgestone Golf Professional Climbs to No. 2 in FedEx Cup Standings with Win

(Covington, Ga.) — Taking his cues from American mail carriers, neither rain, nor sleet, nor snow could stop Matt Kuchar from successfully finishing his rounds at the 2013 World Golf Championships – Accenture Match Play Championship in Tucson.  However, in contrast from the Post Office, Kuch delivered on Sunday, dispatching Jason Day in the Semi-Finals 4&3 and Hunter Mahan 2&1 in the Championship Final at Dove Mountain.

With the win, Kuchar recorded his first career WGC event title, 5th career PGA TOUR victory and joined fellow Bridgestone Golf tour team member Brandt Snedeker in the Top 2 of the 2013 FedEx Cup standings.

“Pound for pound we have the most successful tour team in the industry,” said Dan Murphy, Vice President of Marketing – Bridgestone Golf, Inc.  “From the beginning we’ve had a company philosophy to align ourselves with the best players and the best people out on TOUR.  We don’t play the numbers game trying to buy weekly equipment counts, instead we’ve focused on personalities that fit our brand and we make sure they have proper-fitting equipment that puts them in position to succeed.  We’re proud of what we’ve built and how we’ve built it, and to look at the FedEx Cup standings and see that the Top 2 players are Bridgestone guys is proof that our Tour philosophy is working.”

Throughout his six matches, Kuchar excelled in a variety of weather conditions – at times negotiating wintry conditions better suited for skiing than for championship golf.  On Sunday, temperatures barely reached into the 50’s and 35 mph winds tested every aspect of Kuchar’s game.  In his victory, Kuchar relied on Bridgestone’s TOUR B330-S golf ball and J40 clubs.

“The conditions were so difficult out there you just knew at times that par or bogey was a good score. The B330-S balls cut through the desert winds well this week and my comfort with the J40 clubs allowed me to attempt some difficult shots,” said Kuchar.
