Pizá Golf Collaborates on Innovative NextLinks eGolf Arena

Pizá is collaborating with NextLinks eGolf Arena Founder Dave Shultz to complete their indoor golf and entertainment concept and have assembled a powerful and influential NextLinks Board of Directors

(SAN DIEGO, CA.) – Pizá Golf, internationally recognized as a world-class architecture and golf course design firm, today Introduce the NextLinks eGolf Arena, an avant-garde golf complex that will grow the game of golf by engaging and entertaining every demographic and generation. NextLinks eGolf Arenas are designed to be an unparalleled indoor golf venue and family friendly destination that will spur golf to be the fastest growing game in indoor sports.

For more than two decades, Agustin Pizá, the Director and Founder of Pizá Golf, has challenged golf norms and redefined golf facilities with award-winning, next generation designs. He has worked with legends of the game and his world class developments attracted interest from a formidable group who questioned him, can you design a total golf entertainment experience? Pizá knew he could transcend beyond the current, highly popular, golf experience but he needed partners and immediately reached out to infrastructure and technology expert, Dave Shultz.

Shultz along with Ed Colson have spent over six-years developing software and technology designed to integrate golf simulator play for the long-game with a true to form real world laser guided short-game experience. The duo has protected this extraordinary technology with a US patent. The technology entertainment component of NextLinks eGolf Arena is exclusive and proprietary.

“NextLinks eGolf Arena is a functional re-imagination of the brick, and mortar standard established for driving range-based entertainment, but more efficient in every way along with an iconic building design and specification,” said Shultz.

To design an iconic golf complex worthy of the NextLinks state-of-the-art golf technology, Pizá, a vertical architect himself, partnered with the esteemed, award-winning, international architects Victor and Sergio Sanz of Sanzpont, known for their designs that connect people and spaces with sustainability. The brother’s NextLinks eGolf Arena design exceeded the team’s vision and now, rivals the best golf facilities across the globe with its domed structure inspired by the most recognizable shape in the game: the golf ball. Other amenities include its central circular bar visible from any view, variety of eating spaces, private and open spaces, hitting bays, and lounge balconies that flank the signature short game course.

“We so love the game of golf, we imagined how the next golf entertainment concept should look and feel, envisioning almost a sacred place – a GOLF temple, where technology and entertainment are combined to create a realistic and exciting, next generation of golfing experience,” said Victor and Sergio Sanz.

The “Golf Field Atrium” within the NextLinks eGolf Arena was designed by Pizá himself. To compliment the technology driven experiences of the “Hitting Bays” he created a strategic laser guided short game course within the indoor park-like setting. The team refers to this as a “Disruptive game changing experience.” Onlookers can enjoy the play from the lounge balconies.

“The strategy behind the design is to provide real shot values that can be challenging or easy as the player wants. NextLinks eGolf Arena can be played by an avid golfer or a non-golfer. This is what we strive for ‘Growing the game we love’ and with respect to sustainability on all levels, ecologically, socially, and economically,” said Pizá.

Pizá, Shultz, and the team has assembled an imposing Board of Directors for their collective vision for the future of golf, the NextLinks eGolf Arena and established the NextLinks CalNeva Corporation.

NextLinks CalNeva Board of Directors:

·        Dan Mechem – CEO

·        Dave Shultz – Founder and Chairman of the Board

·        Agustin Pizá – Award-winning Golf Design Architect

·        Brandel Chamblee – Golf Channel Analyst / Creative Talent

·        Pete Walsh – Venue Technology Expert

·        Ed Colson – Real Estate Investor

·        Charlie Mechem – Senior Advisor

“NextLinks Golf is the next generation in stadium golf concepts where friends and family will be able to not only hit all types of shots but also experience the joys and challenges of the short game and putting on championship style Pizá golf designed greens. With patented laser technology to simulate where shots hit would end up, “players” will get the full golf experience, with all the excitement, amenities, and atmosphere of a lavish night out on the town at a fraction of the cost. With an eye towards the future, NextLinks Golf will bring people to the game and the concept without adding to the stresses that the game generally has on the sustainability issues of land and water. NextLinks Golf, I believe, is the link to golf’s future,” said Brandel Chamblee.

PlayGolfMyrtleBeach.com World Amateur Handicap Championship Tees Off Under Sunny Skies In America’s Most Popular Golf Destination

(MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.)
— The 38th annual PlayGolfMyrtleBeach.com World Amateur Handicap Championship - the game’s most inclusive event - teed off Monday morning as 3,500 players from all 50 states and seven countries began their quest to claim the mantle of World Champion.

A 72-hole, net stroke play tournament, the World Am, which is open to all players 18 years of age and older, is being played August 30 - September 3 on 55 of the Myrtle Beach area’s premier courses. At the conclusion of Thursday’s fourth round, all flight winners and ties will advance to the Flight Winner’s Playoff at the Grande Dunes Resort Course, where a World Champion will be crowned.

“The excitement of opening day at the PlayGolfMyrtleBeach.com World Amateur Handicap Championship never gets old,” tournament director Scott Tomasello said. “The event is equal parts competition and camaraderie, but everyone harbors dreams of winning the tournament and that anticipation is part of what makes this week special.”

Entry into the event, which included at least four rounds of golf, nightly admission to the World’s Largest 19th Hole and a gift bag, was $679.

While much of the 2021 tournament will look familiar to players, there are two new women’s divisions. For the first time, there will be a women’s gross division, and the ladies, who previously had just one age group, will be split into two groups - 59 and under and 60 and older.

The World Am flights players based on age, gender and handicap.

The World Am places players into 11 divisions – men 49 and under, senior men (50-59), mid-senior men (60-69), super senior men (70-79), seasoned seniors (80+), women (59 and under), senior women (60+), the gross division, senior (50+) gross division and women’s gross division. There is also a “Just For Fun” flight, created for players who want to enjoy the World Am experience without the pressure of competition.

After four days of play, all flight winners and ties will advance to the World Championship Playoff at the Grande Dunes Resort Course, an 18-hole shootout that crowns the event’s winner.

While the competition is initially what lures players to the tournament, it’s only part of what keeps them coming back. At the heart of the World Am’s appeal is the camaraderie among its participants and much of that kinship is fostered at the World’s Largest 19th Hole.

Each night of the event, the 19th Hole overtakes all 120,000-square feet of the Myrtle Beach Convention Center, providing participants with free food and drinks, live entertainment, celebrity guest appearances, a golf expo and more. Among the big names that have appeared at the 19th Hole in recent years are David Feherty, Brandel Chamblee, Charlie Rymer and John Daly.

Players also received a gift bag that included a polo, a pullover, a golf towel, a logo’d hat, a PGA Tour Superstore gift card and an assortment of other goodies valued cumulatively at $250.

All-Women Broadcast Team to Call NBC Sports' Coverage of ShopRite LPGA Classic on Golf Channel

Broadcast Team Features Cara Banks (Play-By-Play), Judy Rankin and Paige Mackenzie (Analysts), and Karen Stupples and Kay Cockerill (On-Course Reporters)

(STAMFORD, Conn.) – NBC Sports will utilize an all-women broadcast team to call the ShopRite LPGA Classic at the Bay Course at Seaview in Galloway, N.J., on October 1-3 on GOLF Channel, marking the first-ever all-women golf broadcast team in U.S. television history.

The commentary team will feature Cara Banks handling play-by-play duties, alongside analysts Judy Rankin and Paige Mackenzie and on-course reporters Karen Stupples and Kay Cockerill.

Tournament coverage will be produced by long-time NBC Sports and GOLF Channel producer Beth Hutter. Hutter has produced LPGA coverage for more than 15 years and recently made history as the first woman to produce the U.S. Women’s Open at Olympic Club and women’s golf coverage at the Tokyo Olympics.

“We’re thrilled to assemble this incredibly accomplished group of women for our broadcast of the ShopRite LPGA Classic on GOLF Channel,” said Molly Solomon, executive producer for NBC Olympics and GOLF Channel, and the first woman to serve in that role for a national sports network. “Our NBC Sports team features talented women at all levels – both on-camera and behind-the-scenes – who are essential to making our coverage a success on every platform, and we’re honored to celebrate their work as part of this broadcast.”

NBC Sports made history in March 2020 with the first all-women broadcast for an NHL game. Earlier this year, NBC Sports producer Rene Hatlelid became the first woman to produce the Indianapolis 500 – “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” – on NBC, and Lindsay Schanzer became the first woman to produce a Triple Crown race, leading NBC Sports’ productions of the Preakness and Belmont Stakes on NBC.

NBC Sports is producing more than 500 hours of women’s golf coverage in 2021, the most hours and events ever dedicated to the women’s game in a single year.

PING Introduces Virtual Golf-Ball-Fitting Tool

(PHOENIX)
— Continuing its journey to help golfers improve through custom fitting, PING introduced a virtual ball-fitting experience based on a golfer’s launch conditions and performance preferences. Known as Ballnamic, the website offers unbiased golf ball brand and model recommendations for golfers of every skill level. The software is powered by PING’s proprietary ball-specific flight models and algorithms developed by its engineers and data scientists. More than 40 ball models are housed inside the app, which is periodically updated to seek to ensure the current designs are considered.

The ball-fitting tool is available direct to consumers for a $39 fee at ballfitting.com and generates a detailed fitting report contrasting the top five best-matched balls. Custom-fitting facilities can license the application through PING and offer it as a service to their customers. Ballnamic is available only in the United States.

“Ballnamic represents our never-ending quest to innovate every variable of the custom-fitting experience,” said John K. Solheim, PING President. “We’ve been studying golf balls since the early days of PING when my grandfather, Karsten Solheim, quickly recognized the ball was the ‘tuning fork’ for golf equipment. Our extensive knowledge library and engineering expertise led us down the ball-fitting path, and we’re excited to bring it to both fitters and consumers. The access golfers have to their data through launch monitors and other tools continues to grow and make advancements like Ballnamic possible. Since we’re not in the golf-ball business, we’re able to conduct independent testing and offer this unbiased tool as another service for golfers to help improve their enjoyment of the game.”

Testing conducted at the PING Proving Grounds has generated anticipated performance characteristics of golf balls. Utilizing the PING Man swing robot, doppler radar and carefully monitored weather conditions, PING’s researchers have measured ball performance across a comprehensive span of driver, iron, and wedge shots – in both wet and dry conditions. The results generated data approximating how golf balls perform across a range of speeds and lofts; a low-spin ball on drivers can generate high spin around the green and vice versa.

“One of the most exciting advancements with Ballnamic is that, for the first time in the golf industry, we decouple and approximate a ball’s initial launch conditions with its aerodynamic performance. It’s counterintuitive, but we’ve seen low-launch, low-spin golf balls that fly high, and high-launch, high-spin balls that fly low,” said Marty Jertson, Vice President of Fitting and Performance, who oversaw the creation and development of Ballnamic. “It does not factor in traditional ball-selection criteria, such as construction and number of layers. Instead, Ballnamic strictly focuses on tested performance characteristics, algorithmic equations and mathematical approximations.”

Once logged into the site, golfers create a profile by completing a questionnaire that guides them to think about aspects of ball performance just like a Tour player. Golfers enter performance preferences for their long game, irons, wedges, short game, and putter. Even without access to a launch monitor, Ballnamic employs a user’s estimated launch conditions based upon a user’s data such as their driver and 7-iron flight. For golfers who have been on a launch monitor recently, they can enter their exact ball speed, launch angle, and spin rate for even more personalized results. Employing the player’s data inputs, Ballnamic recommends the top five balls identified based upon a calculated Overall Match Score, factoring in the ball’s projected initial launch conditions and aerodynamic properties with the intent of closely matching the golfer’s profile.

Users can view approximated ball-flight comparisons for both calm (zero wind) and windy conditions, which are estimated from their trajectory and geographic location, using the Explore feature. Once finished, users can share their top-matched ball through Twitter and Facebook.

“We’ve been using Ballnamic to custom fit our guests at the PING Proving Grounds for the last several months,” said Jertson. “It’s been eye-opening to see the impact that different balls have on dialing in someone’s fitting recommendations. While Ballnamic provides useful information as a stand-alone tool, we’ve also seen the benefits of combining club and ball fitting. For example, using Ballnamic we’ve seen optimization benefits in players achieving greater distance while using a higher-lofted driver with better-matched golf balls. Our goal is to help golfers in working to match the best ball to their game, so they can have the most success on the golf course.”

The Continent of Europe Defeats Great Britain and Ireland 16½-8½ to Win the Jacques Léglise Trophy

Photo: R&A

(Falsterbo, Sweden)
— The Continent of Europe has defeated Great Britain and Ireland 16½-8½ to win the Jacques Léglise Trophy at Falsterbo Golf Club in Sweden.

Leading GB&I 6½-5½ after the first day of play, the Continent of Europe strengthened its position by winning three and halving one of the four morning foursomes matches to provide the hosts with a four-point advantage at 10-6 ahead of this afternoon’s singles matches.

Joachim Fourquet’s side then picked up six and a half points of the nine available in the afternoon singles to seal their second win on the bounce in the boys’ international match after triumphing 15½-9½ at Aldeburgh in 2019, the last time it was played.

In the morning’s foursomes, Oiha Guillamoundeguy and Riccardo Fantinelli set the tone with a 3&2 win against the Scottish pairing of Cameron Adam and Ruben Lindsay, while Italian duo Marco Florioli and Flavio Michetti were in impressive form on their way to a 4&3 success against Archie Finnie and Joshua Hill.

Daniel Svard and Tim Wiedemeyer picked up a third point for the Continent of Europe after beating Daniel Bullen and Harley Smith 2&1, but GB&I salvaged a halve from the session after Jack Bigham and Josh Hill shared the spoils with German double act Tiger Christensen and Yannick Malik.

Christensen kicked off the afternoon singles in style for the Continent of Europe with a thumping 7&6 defeat of Boys’ Amateur champion Bigham to make it 11-6. Fantinelli, runner-up to the English international at Royal Cinque Ports earlier this month, edged his side closer to victory by comfortably beating Lindsay 3&2 to claim another point.

Michetti’s comprehensive 5&4 win over Connor Graham proved to be the clincher for the Continent of Europe, with the hosts moving into an unassailable 13-6 lead to ensure it keeps hold of the trophy won in England two years ago.

Smith pulled a point back for GB&I shortly after with a narrow one hole win over Malik, but Guillamoundeguy restored the seven-point cushion after beating Josh Hill by the same scoreline to make it 14-7.

GB&I playing captain Adam managed to win a point in his match against Svard, only for Wiedemeyer to return a 2&1 victory against his compatriot Archie Finnie.

Jaime Montojo and Joshua Hill’s tie finished all-square, which left Marco Florioli to round off a very successful two days for the Continent of Europe with a 2&1 win over Bullen, leaving the final score 16½-8½.

The victory marks the 14th time that the Continent of Europe has won the Jacques Léglise Trophy since the boys’ international match between the two teams was rejuvenated in 1977.

Key Quotes

Joachim Fourquet, non-playing captain, Continent of Europe:

“I feel very proud and happy. I think the morning foursomes were key and we played really well. To win the early matches this afternoon was also important.

“My players were in very good form and we gelled well as a team. They know how to play golf. To win the trophy for a second time running is great and captaining the Continent of Europe is one of the most special things to do.”

Cameron Adam, playing captain, Great Britain and Ireland:

“The foursomes were the difference today and to take one half point isn’t good enough. You put yourself on the back foot and it’s difficult to come back from there. We showed a lot of courage to win some points in the singles and put a performance in. I’m proud of the team and there were some good individual performances. The boys really enjoyed it despite the result. There was good golf out there and we have a young team. I think this team will be back fighting again for the trophy next year.”

The 2022 Jacques Léglise Trophy will be played at Blairgowrie in Scotland from 26-27 August when it is held alongside the Junior Vagliano Trophy at the Perthshire venue.

Back-to-Back Aces at the Sea Pines Resort's Atlantic Dunes

17-Million-to-One Odds Cap Special Round

(HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C.) – Imagine the roar of the gallery if two players made back-to-back aces during the PGA TOUR’s annual stop for the RBC Heritage on Hilton Head Island?

The cheers were nearly that loud and just as thrilling on Tuesday, August 24 for golfers Jeffrey Johnson of Marietta, Georgia and Mike Long of Wellington, Florida, who sank back-to-back, holes-in-one on the 10th hole of The Sea Pines Resort’s Atlantic Dunes course.

According to the National Hole-In-One Registry, the odds are 17-million-to-one of two players in the same foursome making aces, with the odds of back-to-back aces even higher.

The golfers, who had not met before their epic round, took different approaches to the hole.  Long hit first from white tees and used a 5-hybrid on the Davis Love III design that weaves among the sand dunes and ocean.  Next up was Johnson, who used a pitching wedge from the blue tees, where water comes into play along the left-hand side.

“Dang, I thought, now I’ve got to follow this guy. Two swings in a row, two balls in the hole, how does that happen?” Johnson recounted.  “I started running around in circles and waving my arms.”

According to Bobby Downs, Head Golf Professional at Atlantic Dunes and Heron Point, four workers who were building a sea wall near the green witnessed the action as it unfolded.  “They were cheering, people were stopping their cars on the road, and everyone was going crazy.  In my 38 years as a golf professional on Hilton Head Island, I’ve never experienced anything like it.”

Enjoying his final day of vacation, Johnson said he bought the $2 draft beers after the round.  “It’s a day I’ll never forget.  Of course, my friends still don’t believe me.”

The Refuge Golf Course Honored By Golf Inc. Magazine

(Flowood, Miss.)
– The Refuge Golf Course in Flowood, Miss. was recently honored as one of the top “Renovations of the Year” by Golf Inc. Magazine in the publication’s summer issue. The daily-fee golf course reopened for play on April 19, 2021 following a $1.9 million, multi-year renovation and enhancement project under the direction of golf course architect Nathan Crace.

Originally designed by Roy Case, The Refuge opened in 1998. In an effort to modernize the layout and increase playability, The Refuge closed in 2017 for an extensive renovation and restoration by Crace. In August 2020, Honours Golf, a division of Troon, was hired to oversee the final stages of the renovation and to manage course operations. The course reopened to rave reviews in April with Crace saying, “In over 26 years, I don’t recall a project where we transformed a course so drastically.”

“The city recognized the need to redesign and update The Refuge Golf Course,” said Flowood Mayor Gary Rhoads. “Through the hard work and contributions of many people, we are proud that the course is a destination location to be enjoyed by visitors and citizens alike.  Flowood is honored for The Refuge to be recognized as one of the Renovations of the Year.”

The newly redesigned 18-hole layout ranges in length from 4,439 yards to 7,013 yards making it suitable for players of every skill level from beginner to professional. As part of the renovation, invasive trees were removed and playing corridors were widened. Many modifications were made to the overall routing including three new holes, the relocation of several water hazards, as well as new and enlarged cart paths. Irrigation and drainage systems were also enhanced and all course bunkers were rebuilt using the Better Billy BunkerTM method which provides a technically advanced drainage and liner system, while providing optimal playing conditions much deeper into the life of the bunker.  In addition, all greens were re-grassed with TifEagle Ultradwarf Bermuda and multiple tee boxes were added on each hole to improve the overall playability.

“I’m impressed with the innovative approach,” said Golf Inc. Competition Judge and President of the Bobby Jones Golf Course Foundation Martin Elgison, a “Major improvements at a minimal cost is also impressive.”

Golf Inc., the world’s only magazine for golf course developers, owners and management company executives, annually recognizes the top golf course renovations of the year in its summer issue. Judging for all “Renovation of the Year” entries was based on achievement of goals, improved playability, maintainability and course aesthetics. Winners were chosen through blind judging. In total, Golf Inc. recognized nine “Renovation of the Year” honorees this year in the public (three) and private (six) categories.

Other enhancements to the golf facility include a signature water practice range along with a new golf shop and men’s and women’s locker rooms, which are located on the south side of the new Sheraton Hotel and Conference Center, and a new 19th Hole dining venue.

The Refuge is open to public play with annual golf memberships also available. For more information on The Refuge Golf Course, visit https://refugegolfms.com or call the golf shop at (601) 941-6116.

Vokey WedgeWorks Offers Limited Edition 60A Grind Wedge

Born from the Popular L Grind and Inspired by Major Champion Geoff Ogilvy

(CARLSBAD, Calif.) – Master Craftsman Bob Vokey and Vokey Tour Representative Aaron Dill are at it again, working with the world’s best players to create the new Vokey WedgeWorks 60A Limited Edition wedge.

Inspired by conversations with players across the worldwide professional tours, including major champions Geoff Ogilvy and Adam Scott, as well as Ian Poulter and many others who have it in their bags, this unique wedge with 60* of loft and 4* of bounce, is ideal for the player looking to flight the ball higher, while playing from firm turf and bunkers.

Born out of the popular Vokey Design L Grind, the grind line on the sole is smoothed out resulting in a faster feel through the turf.

“I spoke with Geoff (Ogilvy), and we got on the topic of Australian golf courses and how they compared to courses in America and around the world,” said Dill.  “I asked him some specific questions which resulted in an idea to design a lob wedge that complemented the firm links-style conditions that players face – not just in Australia and Europe – but globally. Geoff has always been a low bounce player in his 60 degree, so I took the original chassis that he had in his L wedge and removed the ribbon taking the bounce down."

Like many low bounce wedges, this smooth, fast feeling wedge requires precise delivery at impact, especially in soft conditions.

SM8 TECHNOLOGY AND FINISH

Consistent with all SM8 wedges, the 60A features a progressive CG, pushed forward of the face for increased MOI, as well as Spin Milled grooves resulting in consistent ball flight control and maximum spin. The 60A is available in a Brushed Copper finish which will wear over time.

PRICING AND AVAILABILITY: Vokey WedgeWorks 60A Grind Limited Edition is now available for $250, only through WedgeWorks on Vokey.com while supplies last.

Greeting the 132-player field in Worley, Idaho, is a total purse of $200,000. Individuals are set to compete in a 54-hole stroke play format with a cut to the low-60 players and ties after 36 holes. The winner’s share for the event is $30,000.

First- and second-round action begins at 7  a.m. PDT  off  No. 1 and No. 10 tees. Meanwhile, the final round will start at  7:30  a.m.  PDT  from  No. 1  tee and a trophy presentation will follow on the 18th green.

“We’re honored to have these women play in the Circling Raven Championship,” said Laura Penney, CEO, Coeur d’Alene Casino Resort Hotel. “We support empowering women and youth through the game. Doing so was one of the objectives the Coeur d’Alene Tribe set when it decided to build Circling Raven Golf Club, which aligns beautifully with the Symetra Tour.”

SEVERAL  COLLEGIATE TIES AT 16TH STOP

One  individual with a connection to  Idaho  institutions for higher education is featured among the competition in the  Gem  State and that is current No. 5 in the Race for the Card, Sophie Hausmann (Nottuln, Germany). A first-time winner on the Symetra Tour at the 2021 IOA Championship presented by Morongo Casino Resort & Spa, she attended the University of Idaho.

“I spent my week off here to see friends and practice. It feels good to see familiar faces and brings back some good memories I made during college. It doesn’t really feel like I left long ago,” said Hausmann. “We played Circling Raven [Golf Club] on team retreats a few times, so I do know what kind of course to expect, which is nice, and I do believe people around here are super excited to have us. I’m excited to play here. It’s nice to know the area a little better, and I’m hoping to enjoy the week as much as I can.”

Gonzaga University, University of Oregon, University of Washington, and Washington State University each have one representative in Bianca Pagdanganan (Mandaluyong City, Philippines), Kathleen Scavo (Benicia, California), Julianne Alvarez (Wellington, New Zealand) and Alivia Reynolds (Gig Harbor, Washington), respectively.

COUNTRIES (AND STATES) OF THE CIRCLING RAVEN CHAMPIONSHIP

A total of 29  countries are represented this week at the  Circling Raven Championship, led by the United States with 71 players then followed by Sweden having the next highest number of competitors (9).

“This venue looks amazing and the nature up north is beautiful, it feels a little bit like home. My mom is with me this week caddying which is exciting, and this is the first time she’s back since the 2020 Symetra Tour Championship,” said Frida Kinhult (Fiskebackskil, Sweden), a 2020 Symetra Tour graduate. “I’m very hungry for good results these last five events. My goal is obviously to finish top-10 and something really good needs to happen for that, or a couple good things. From last year, I learned that anything could happen the very last minute and I’m not the person who is going to give up.”

Individuals from 24 different states are also set to tee it up at Circling Raven Golf Club. One player hails from the host state, while California boasts the most with 13.

“Being from Idaho, I am mostly looking forward to getting the chance to play in front of family, friends, and local fans,” said Gabby Lemieux (Caldwell, Idaho). “It’s a very beautiful area, so I hope the players get the chance to explore and enjoy northern Idaho. I know how excited everyone within the Coeur D’Alene tribe and Circling Raven is for a Symetra Tour event to be here.”

ROOKIES APLENTY IN THE  GEM STATE

Numerous professionals in their first year on the Symetra Tour have made the trek to  Worley, Idaho, as  27  rookies are in the field and eager for the 16th event of the Symetra Tour season.  Among them is  Haylee Harford  (Leavittsburg, Ohio), who is currently No. 15 in the  Race for the Card  with  five top-10 finishes this season.

“It’s crazy that the last few events are already here. I’m feeling confident about the position I’m in and how much I’ve grown throughout the year,” said Harford. “I’m looking forward to finishing strong.”

RACE FOR THE CARD UPDATE

The Symetra Tour annually awards LPGA Tour membership  to the top players on the Race for the Card  money  list. With  15  tournaments in the books, the top-10 underwent some shifting after  the  Four Winds Invitational.  Eight members from the group are Idaho including Morgan Metraux (Laussane, Switzerland), currently ranked No. 7.

“I’m excited about the position I’m in, but I’m trying to keep my mind off the rankings and play as freely as possible. Being in the top-10 this close to the end of the season is a great feeling but it can be added pressure, so I take every event one week at a time. It’s not always easy but if I can do that, I think I’ll be in a good position coming into the Tour Championship,” Metraux said. “This week, I’m just really excited to play this great course in a new state on Tour.”

From 1999-2002, the official qualifying tour of the LPGA handed out three cards. Then from 2003-2007, that number increased to five before 10 were distributed starting in 2008. Since the inaugural year, a total of 162 players have graduated to the big stage.

For more details about this year’s tournament, contact Coeur d’Alene Casino Resort Hotel and Circling Raven at: 1.800.523.2464 or visit www.cdacasino.com.

BIG MAX Introduces New Golf Bags to US Market

(RELEASE)
— Europe’s #1 golf bag brand BIG MAX is set to bring a splash of color to the fairways with the release of two new models that are packed with features and boast distinctive European styling. The Dri Lite Hybrid Tour and Dri Lite Seven, benefit from BIG MAX’s practical approach to life on the course, including its award winning water resistant Dri Lite technology. And while that makes them perfect for a gray day on the fairway, life with these BIG MAX designs is far from dull!

“There isn’t a huge variation in the golf bag market and that’s fine for a lot of golfers, but at BIG MAX we want to stand out from the crowd,” commented Ralf Niesing, Head of Bag Design at BIG MAX. “For practical innovation alone, the Dri Lite Hybrid Tour is the match of anything on the market and in the Dri Lite Seven I’d say we have the best lightweight stand bag in this price category. But when it comes to style, I really don’t think there is anything that comes close. With the Hybrid Tour we use 90° and 45° angles as they harmonise together and combine perfectly with the angle of a bag on a push cart. We then took the best modern color combinations and ended up with something that pops in a different way to any other bag I’ve seen. The Dri Lite Seven has a more subtle palette with bold accent colors, but at a single glance you can tell that this is a BIG MAX bag that has both style and substance.”

The Dri Lite Hybrid Tour is the water-resistant next generation of BIG MAX’s hugely successful Hybrid line. With its spacious interior and modern styling the Hybrid Tour is the ultimate all-round solution for the golfer who likes to push, carry and look great on the course. This ingenious bag sits perfectly square on a push cart thanks to its flat, footless push cart compatible base and leg lock feature, while the clever positioning of the stand mechanism low on the body of the bag provides a clear contact for the upper bag bracket, eliminating twisting. Its 14-way divider and 5 water-repellent pockets – including spacious cooler and 100% waterproof valuables pocket - give it superb cart bag capacity, while its ultra light weight of just 4.4 llbs and practical features such as padded straps and air channel for breathability when carrying mean it excels as a stand bag too. MSRP: $259.99

Available in: Black, Charcoal/Black/Red, Silver/Blueberry/Merlot, Steel Blue/Black/Rust, White/Black/Orange

The DRI LITE Seven is a water-resistant stand bag that features both waterproof fabric and zips. With an 8.5" top and 4 way divider the Dri Lite Seven is a compact stand bag that offers extra room with its larger top to ease clubs in and out during your round. The bag holds 4 more clubs than traditional compact bags, which means you can travel and play with a full 14 club set in this small and ultra light bag. At less than 3.75 llbs and featuring a padded strap with air channel for breathability the Dri Lite Seven is perfect for carrying, while the leg lock gives golfers an easy option to use on a cart. Four water resistant pockets including cooler and 100% waterproof valuables pocket provide plenty of storage options and at an MSRP of $179.99 this bag is a perfect choice for a golfer who wants to carry Lite for a great price.

Available in: Black/Red, Navy/Orange, White/Navy/Red

BIG MAX Dri Lite technology delivers a 2000mm* water-resistant rating. Featuring waterproof material, waterproof zips and a fully sealed waterproof valuables pocket. These will keep all but the wettest days at bay.

Rolex Returns as Official Timekeeper at 17th Solheim Cup

(Geneva, Switzerland)
– The Solheim Cup returns to the United States next week when Inverness Club in Toledo hosts the 17th edition of the premier team event in women’s golf.

The best golfers from Europe and their US counterparts will assemble at the century-old course in Ohio from 31 August, their practice sessions launching a week of festivities that culminates in three days of intensive match-play competition from 4–6 September to decide the destination of the trophy.

First staged in 1990, the Solheim Cup follows the same format as The Ryder Cup in the men’s game, comprising a series of foursome, fourball and singles matches that showcase player power, precision and consistency, qualities that Rolex shares in its own pursuit of perpetual excellence.

At this biennial transatlantic competition, which the brand has supported for more than 25 years, the role of the non-playing captains is central. They are crucial to creating the chemistry, the team spirit that enables individual excellence to be channelled towards the greater achievement of the group.

USA has won the Solheim Cup on 10 occasions, Europe six, but it is the latter who enters this year’s event as defending champion after clinching a thrilling victory at Gleneagles in 2019 with the last putt on the 18th green. Indeed, the event has produced some of the most memorable moments in women’s golf, adding its own special layer to the rich history and traditions of the ancient game.

For more than 50 years Rolex has supported golf at every level, including its noblest institutions, greatest tournaments and finest players. The long-standing involvement with the Solheim Cup highlights the brand’s strong commitment to the women’s game, an association that has grown and flourished since 1980 when the brand forged a seminal partnership with the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA). The Swiss watchmaker is the Official Timekeeper at all five women’s Majors and founder of the Rolex Women’s World Golf Ranking.

PATHWAY TO SUCCESS

Adding to the excitement, the top 12 junior female golfers from both the United States and Europe will compete for the PING Junior Solheim Cup (PJSC) at the nearby Sylvania Country Club from 1–2 September. Contested in a similar matchplay format, the event was established in 2002 with a vision to create a pathway for future champions to fulfil their dream of playing at the elite level.

The PJSC has showcased some of amateur golf’s brightest talents, with many going on to play in the Solheim Cup, including Rolex Testimonees and Major-winning pair Anna Nordqvist of Sweden and American Lexi Thompson, who first appeared at the junior event in 2005 and 2009 respectively. They have since taken part in a combined 11 Solheim Cups and will be looking to drive their respective teams’ latest challenge for one of the most highly coveted trophies in women’s professional golf, with Nordqvist entering the week on top form following recent victory at the AIG Women’s Open.

Leading the Europeans at this year’s PJSC is another member of the Rolex family, Annika Sörenstam. The Swede is regarded as one of the greatest golfers in history, having won 10 Majors during her glittering career and represented Europe in the Solheim Cup on eight occasions. She will look to use all her experience, which includes captaining the 2017 Solheim Cup team, to lead the continent’s elite juniors to their first victory since 2007.

Z Customization Debuts U.S. Ryder Cup Team Bags

(CARLSBAD, Calif.)
— Z Customization has introduced the official U.S. Ryder Cup Team golf bag for the 43rd Ryder Cup, which takes place Sept. 21-26, 2021 at Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wisconsin. Best known for manufacturing and embroidering major club manufacturer golf bags, Z Customization worked with U.S. Ryder Cup Team Captain Steve Stricker in designing the bags.

“He took a hands-on approach in helping us develop a special blue and red camouflage pattern for the bags. It was very much a collaborative effort,” says Jeff Yearous, CEO of Z Customization, the exclusive 43rd Ryder Cup U.S. Team bag manufacturer. “On the magnetic personal pocket, we added the state of Wisconsin in red, white and blue. It’s a cool visual. And we placed the Whistling Straits logo on the bottom of the tour bag.”

The bag will sell to consumers for $699.99, but will be available at the onsite Ryder Cup merchandise shop, where consumers can personalize it with their name for an extra $25, and at limited golf retailers around the country. The colorful and vibrant bag is made of a durable and premium PU vinyl, with careful attention paid to every stitch and detail. It is identical to the bag the players will use.

“It looks incredible,” adds Yearous. “We utilized only the best materials that will withstand the rigors of Ryder Cup play. And because that’s complemented by a great look, golfers get so eager to see it. We also made the 2018 Ryder Cup bag, and worked with then-U.S. Captain Jim Furyk on it. He said that players got so excited to open a Ryder Cup bag for the first time. It’s a genuinely exhilarating moment the team looks forward to. This year’s players are going to be thrilled when they receive theirs.”

Next month, at the 43rd Ryder Cup merchandise shop, the company will also sell a matching, full-function stand bag ($349.99) that comes with a single and double strap, as well as a matching den caddy ($139.99). They’re made of the identical materials as the staff bag and have the same aesthetics. While both products will be available at a limited number of golf shops after the event, the stand bag will also be offered at Dick’s Sporting Goods.

Z Customization is no stranger to supplying Tour pros -- such as Dustin Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau and Gary Woodland -- with its expertise and high-end products. Officials recently worked with Matthew Fitzpatrick on a British Open staff bag that resembled the uniform of his favorite soccer team, Sheffield United. The red-and-white striped pattern was so striking that the team purchased it as a promotional item.

“We’re honored and delighted to be working with the PGA of America and the U.S. Ryder Cup Team to deliver the best, most premium handcrafted bags in the world,” says Yearous. “On the inside of each bag, we note, ‘This bag is handcrafted by some of the most skilled golf bag artisans in the world, using the finest materials and superior craftsmanship.’ We don't take lightly that the world's best players carry our product and are honored to be associated with this event.”

The custom-built i59 irons are now available for custom fittings at authorized PING retailers around the world.

“There’s been a lot of anticipation for the i59 iron since we took them out on tour a few months ago, so we’re very excited to bring them to golfers around the world,” said John K. Solheim, PING President. “It’s a true forged blade on the outside, but inside it’s like nothing ever engineered in golf equipment. Our team took on the challenge of disrupting an iron category that traditionally has lacked a lot of performance innovation and they developed an iron unlike any other. The combination of the look, feel and forgiveness ‘when you need it’ sets it apart from anything else in the industry. Once golfers hit it, they’ll be pleasantly surprised by its versatility. The i59 will clearly appeal to better golfers but the combination of forgiveness and clean appearance will attract golfers of all skill levels.”

“It’s been very well received on tour and was in the bag of Viktor Hovland when he became the first Norwegian to win on the European Tour earlier this summer. Johannes Veerman just won with a full set of the i59s on Sunday at the Czech Masters. The players really like the distance control and the ability to consistently flight the ball to the precise yardages required to succeed at the professional levels.”

AlumiCore Technology Increases MOI

An aerospace-grade aluminum insert allows approximately 30 grams of material from the center of the club to be redistributed to the perimeter, some in the form of toe and shaft tip weights, elevating the MOI to match that of the larger PING i210 iron. Each iron in the set requires a different size of aluminum core, adding to the precision and complexity of the manufacturing process to ensure quality and performance in every iron. The result is a forgiving, forged iron with a crisp, solid feel at impact that delivers lower launch and trajectory control with the precision expected from a blade design.

“We know this type of player might not put forgiveness at the top of their list when considering their iron choice, so we engineered it in a way that increased the MOI in a clean and impactful way,” said Solheim.  “At address, it’s perfectly sized and shaped with a thin top line and the right amount of offset. It has a narrow sole to move smoothly through the turf and ensure a pleasing impact experience. Inside, the AlumiCore technology allows us to increase the MOI by moving the weight to the perimeter using toe and shaft tip weights. Our player testing shows tighter dispersion throughout the set and very high marks for feel.”

Friction Face with MicroMax™ Milled Grooves

The precision-machined face has new MicroMax grooves for tighter spacing and a geometry that results in an average of four extra grooves on each club to reduce fliers in the short irons and preserve spin in the long irons for greater control and consistency.

“We love the challenge of improving groove performance,” Solheim said. “When golfers address the i59 iron, they’ll notice more grooves. We were able to accomplish this through our continuous research and experiments with different configurations to deliver the spin performance required for consistency and predictability from all conditions.”

100% Inspected Manufacturing Steps

During the development of the iron, PING’s innovation and engineering teams spent significant time perfecting the manufacturing process which includes 100% inspection of numerous steps, including sole shaping, head polishing, face machining and head forging. Joining the 1025 carbon steel forged body, aluminum insert and laser-cut 17-4 stainless steel face employs a forging process known as swaging, which applies pressure to the three parts, creating a unibody-style part that is then plasma-welded to seal the seams.

“The i59 project pulled in our expertise from multiple disciplines within our engineering and innovation groups,” said Solheim. “Once we had the idea to join the three parts together, we were challenged with scaling the complicated process within the manufacturing process.  In collaboration with our suppliers, we developed highly precise procedures that make the i59 the most technologically advanced iron we’ve ever manufactured.”
