(Ocala, FL) - In June, JumboMax Grips helped one of the top ranked amateur golfers in the world, a junior from SMU, become the 2015 NCAA Men's Division I Individual National Champion, and now they've helped him capture the 2015 U.S. Amateur Championship as well.
The 36 hole finals, held at Olympia Fields Country Club, just outside Chicago, was decided on the 12th Hole as the match finished 7 and 6. It was the largest margin of victory in the past 16 years of the Championship.
He had a 2-up lead after the morning round of 18, and then won seven holes in a nine-hole stretch to go 8 up with eight holes to play. This U.S. Amateur victory earns him exemptions into the first three majors of 2016, including the Masters, and extended his collegiate career at SMU.
As only the fifth player in history to win both titles in the same year, he's in elite company alongside Jack Nicklaus (1961), Phil Mickelson (1990), Tiger Woods (1996) and Ryan Moore (2004).
He is highly intelligent, a physics major who pursued the discipline at SMU because he wanted to learn more about the golf swing, As a player who cares more about the game than the accolades and does everything in golf his own way, it was the history that meant the most.
"Having my name etched on this trophy with the great Bob Jones, as well as Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, all those guys, it's incredible," he said. "I can't even imagine what I just did. It won't sink in; I'm sure, for the next couple days. But I'm honored."
"What an amazing accomplishment," said John Mazzanoble, V.P. of Sales for JumboMax Grips. "All of us at JumboMax would like to say congratulations on an incredible year of golf and say that we're very excited to see what the future holds. A victory like this proves that whether you're a weekend warrior or the #1 Ranked Amateur in the World, golfers of all skill levels can benefit from this technology."
