Allegria Win Second Edition of Egypt Troon Cup

The Allegria team came out champions against Madinaty Golf Club in Cairo for the tournament’s second edition

(Madinaty, Cairo, Egypt) – The second iteration of the Egypt Troon Cup kicked off in Cairo at the end of March with a match between The Allegria and Madinaty Golf Club, two flagship properties managed and operated by Troon under the Troon Golf brand. The match was the second between the two clubs in the past six months, with the concept designed to create friendly competition between the two Troon-managed properties.

The tournament was held at Madinaty Golf Club and was once again played in a match-play setup with members representing each club in a Ryder Cup format, the fixture was a close-run spectacle with The Allegria just coming out on top. Twenty members represented each club, with players divided into ten teams from each club before competing in a traditional match play format.

Following the day’s play, lunch was served at the club’s two restaurants, followed by a prize giving ceremony. The winning team all received medals to crown their achievement and now extend their bragging rights by getting to take the tournament trophy back to their clubhouse. The rematch is already scheduled for September 2022 at The Allegria’s Greg Norman Signature Golf Course, the first of its kind in Egypt.

This friendly tournament continues to strengthen and is beginning to foster a friendly social aspect between the clubs. Members of both clubs can already benefit from Troon Advantage rates to enjoy a secondary Troon course. The Allegria is located close to the Great Pyramids of Giza, while Madinaty Golf Club lies to the east of Cairo, in close proximity to the Cairo International Airport. For those looking to combine luxurious Egyptian hospitality with golf at the Robert Trent Jones Jr.-designed course, Madinaty Golf Club have teamed up with the Royal Maxim Palace Kempinski Cairo.

Josh North, General Manager of Madinaty Golf Club commented, “Despite the result, all of us at Madinaty Golf Club have really enjoyed working so closely with team at The Allegria. Once again, two Troon-managed golf clubs have come together to create a unique experience for our local golfers to enjoy. Thanks must go to our agronomy team for ensuring the golf course was in peak condition for this fixture. However, next time we’ll really mean business to prevent a dreaded Allegria hat trick!”

Madinaty Golf Club, which opened in late 2020, is already playing a very active role in the Egyptian Golf scene, having hosted the prestigious Egyptian Amateur Championship and implemented a fantastic grow the game programme of ‘Girls Go Golf’ bringing over 50 ladies together to introduce them to the game of golf.
