Sir Nick Celebrates Inaugural Faldo Hurricane Series Grand Final

Sir Nick Faldo’s American junior golf series makes history after the inaugural Faldo Hurricane Series Grand Final crowns its very first champions at Barefoot Resort & Golf, Myrtle Beach

(Myrtle Beach, Fla.) — Sir Nick Faldo celebrated alongside some of the best junior golfers in the US as the Faldo Hurricane Series concluded its historic debut season with an epic Grand Final.

Over two days, 134 elite junior golfers, across both boys and girls age categories, teed up across the Love Course and Dye Course at Barefoot County and Golf Resort, Myrtle Beach to compete in the prestigious championship.

To get to the Grand Final alone would be deemed an achievement by many, as players earned the coveted invite by winning their Sectional qualifier, and then asked to find success again at the Regional championship before teeing it up at the Grand Final event this week.

Telling of the strength of the field, every age-category competition produced a nail biting finish to set up drama down the closing straight, all under the watchful eye of the six-time Major winner who was there supporting and encouraging the aspiring young Tour Professionals.

Despite a competitive tournament across the board, it was the Boys’ U16 – U18s that headlined the action requiring a three-way playoff to decide the winner. In the end it was Garrett Ebbert who sealed the final winners medal and will join fellow age-category champions: Michael Lugiano (Boys’ U14-U15), Ben Wilson (Boys’ U11-U13), Hudson Justus (Boys’ U10), Sophie Anand (Girls’ U14-U18) and Krishny Elwin (Girls’ U13) on the invites list to Vietnam to test themselves against the very best juniors in the world at Sir Nick’s global series for the Faldo Series Asia Grand Final in 2022.

Players will also be able to enjoy the Grand Final for a second time in early December as the Faldo Series is set to feature on CBS Sports, where footage from across these two days in Myrtle Beach will showcase the story of the Faldo Hurricane Series and the journey to its inaugural Grand Final, as well as celebrate the global impact of Sir Nick and the Faldo Series in its 25th year.

Following the start of an exciting journey in America, Faldo Hurricane Series co-founder, Sir Nick Faldo, said: “It’s hugely exciting for us to see the Faldo Hurricane Series thrive over the season and more so to see the enthusiasm from the players to get behind the events, compete to a such a high level and really make these tournaments unique.

“When we first came together to talk about the opportunity here, we knew there was huge potential but to follow the journey to the Grand Final, and now be stood here, it takes you back on what has been accomplished. A huge congratulations to the Hurricane team who have worked incredibly hard to start from a blank canvas to creating and hosting new, competitive events all around the US over the summer and crucially provided a fantastic platform to showcase the talents of tomorrow’s champions here in the US.

“And, of course, to our very first winners, Garret, Michael, Ben and Hudson in the Boys and Sophie and Krishny in the Girls who will enjoy the privilege as history makers today and we look forward to seeing them again in Vietnam next year.”

The event concludes a momentous season following the launch of the exciting five year partnership between Sir Nick Faldo’s junior series, the Faldo Series, and the well-established Hurricane Junior Golf Tour at the start of the year. In total, over 900 junior golfers stepped up to a Faldo Hurricane Series tee across its 26 events, in 20 different states.

Sir Nick’s work within junior golf continues next week, as the Faldo Series prepares to host a dual-event for its Europe Grand Final at Brocket Hall in the UK on Monday 25th – 27th October, following the postponement of the 2020 final.

This year Sir Nick is also celebrating 25 years of competition for the Series since its inception following his third Masters win in 1996, as he looked to create a junior golf legacy lasting a lifetime and develop ‘tomorrow’s champions’.
