Discover Puerto Rico Expands Dan Shepherd Public Relations Services

Agency to implement strategic communications program

(SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO) – Discover Puerto Rico, Puerto Rico’s first-ever Destination Marketing Organization (DMO), today announces that it has expanded the golf niche services to be designed and executed by Dan Shepherd Public Relations (DSPR).

Discover Puerto Rico retained DSPR in 2018 to perform a strategic audit of the Island destination’s golf product. It revealed an abundance of courses (17) and resorts collectively offering an array of designs, locations, course types, and price points, but lacking strategic brand and marketing consistency, clarity, and guidance. The DMO subsequently retained DSPR for several projects.

“Dan Shepherd PR aligns well with our research-driven approach and award-winning publicity and marketing campaigns,” said Leah Chandler, CMO of Discover Puerto Rico. “DSPR’s research illuminated a prime opportunity to grow the number of golf travelers to Puerto Rico. Increasing the volume of visitors experiencing all that Puerto Rico has to offer and supporting the tourism economy of the Island is our mission, one that we’re succeeding at and know DSPR will help us continue accomplishing.”

Puerto Rico’s history, tropical climate, natural scenery, traditional cuisine, beaches, and conviviality of island natives make it a coveted destination for travelers from around the world. It particularly appeals to Americans who can take direct flights from many cities without needing a passport to visit.

“Discover Puerto Rico CEO Brad Dean and CMO Leah Chandler are widely regarded as first-class industry innovators, and they’ve led the Island to tourism record highs in multiple categories after one year,” said Dan Shepherd, a golf and travel destination specialist since 2000. “Collaborating with them and the talented DMO team in promoting Puerto Rico’s exceptional golf product is an inspiring honor. We’re confident DSPR will help increasingly draw more Island visitors, not the least of which are golf destination aficionados.”

There are 17 golf courses on Puerto Rico (all welcoming public play), a significant number for the Island’s quaint size. They range in category from luxury resort to municipal, spread across all four sides of the Island – several clustered near historic San Juan – as well as located inland. Ocean front views, omnipresent palm trees, and mountain and rainforest vistas define the golf club settings. Price points, terrain, layout style, and related amenities are as varied as they are complementary. Specific details for the Island and its golf courses and resorts can be found at Discover Puerto Rico Golf.
