Product Review: Swiftwick Performance Socks

Fawad Khan, the Pakistani actor, model and singer, was quoted as saying, “Comfort and simplicity are two keys that I follow when it comes to fashion.” What could be simpler than a sock? And the most comfortable socks may come from Tennessee-based Swiftwick.

I have a fondness for no-show socks when playing golf, but the wrong pair care can lead to four hours of misery … regardless of how well you’re playing. Ever develop a blister in the middle of a round? Have you fought the sock slipping off your heel and disappearing into your shoe?

Golf is hard enough. Don’t compound that with the wrong pair of socks!

I checked out two pairs of no-show socks from Swiftwick - Pursuit and MAXUS - and was impressed with both. The Pursuit ($15.99) is a performance sock made from Merino wool. It rests juts below the ankle, offers medium cushion and a seamless toe to eliminate irritation. The MAXUS ($13.99) boasts maximum cushion (hence the name) and added breathability due to the thin Olefin upper. Olefin is a synthetic fiber known for strength and comfort, while being resistant to mildew and abrasion.

I, long ago, abandoned the "sock is just a sock" philosophy. The right sock is leaps and bounds better than anything you can buy in bulk at Target. Comparing these two ... The MAXUS was noticeably more cushioned, but the Pursuit had a more "custom" feel to me. Both stayed in place without feeling restrictive and provided excellent breathability.

Not familiar with Swiftwick? The company is probably more known in the running, cycling and hiking communities but has been making some noise in the golf industry, as well. Their golf socks come in three heights - no-show, ankle and quarter crew (just above the ankle) - and range in price from $10.99 to $17.99. American made, the company also offers crew and knee-high socks for other activities. Heck, they even sell the Pursuit in a business model perfect for dominating the boardroom.

PS ... The new 2018 Fall-Winter lineup for Swiftwick features an entirely rebuilt PURSUIT performance sock line. The rebuilt PURSUIT line has a new reinforced heel and toe, along with an extended heel pocket for better durability. Not changed is the moisture-wicking capability and channeled upper for ventilation and breathability. A seamless toe eliminates friction in the toe box, and half-density weave in the flex zones prevents bunching.

The PURSUIT comes in six cuff heights with medium cushion and moderate compression, and is made for golfing, as well as running, cycling and snow sports.
