At Marriott Golf Academy, Golf is Pathway to Wellness and Recovery for Members of On Course Foundation

(PALM DESERT, Calif.) - Recently, the Marriott Golf Academy at Marriott’s Shadow Ridge Golf Club in Palm Desert, California, hosted a 3-day event for On Course Foundation Members who have been wounded in combat. Under the watchful eye of the Academy’s senior instructors, the soldiers participated in full swing and short game instruction, a 9-hole team scramble, a short game skills challenge and an 18-hole event.

“We’re proud to host the On Course Foundation at our Marriott Golf Academies in Palm Desert and at Marriott’s Grande Vista Golf Club in Orlando,” said Brett Meabon, director of golf at Marriott’s Shadow Ridge. “Our instructors find it an honor to work with these veterans and show them how golf can be a pathway to wellness and recovery and can also provide career opportunities. Coaching them develops their golf skills and creates personal confidence and invaluable experiences they can share with friends, family and other veterans.”

Marriott Vacations Worldwide is a proud sponsor of the On Course Foundation, a charity that uses the game of golf as a way for wounded soldiers from the U.K. and United States armed services to recover, heal and thrive. The benefits of playing golf are key to their mental and physical recovery, improving both balance and limb coordination often with prosthetic devices. Camaraderie, competitive spirit and concentration are important, too, as they help service members find confidence within themselves.
