Nexbelt Congratulates Mr. 58, Jim Furyk, Recipient of the 2016 Payne Stewart Award

(RANCHO CUCAMONGA) - Nexbelt, "The Fastest Growing Belt in Golf," congratulates Nexbelt Tour Staff Professional, Jim Furyk, on being named the recipient of the 2016 Payne Stewart Award.

Just days after shooting 58 to break the record for the lowest single-round score in PGA TOUR history, the PGA TOUR and Southern Company announced Jim Furyk, the 17-time PGA TOUR winner and 2010 FedExCup Champion, as the recipient of the 2016 Payne Stewart Award. Furyk was honored September 20, at the Payne Stewart Award Ceremony in conjunction with the TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola in Atlanta. The ceremony from East Lake was televised live on Golf Channel as part of a "Golf Central" special.

The Payne Stewart Award is presented annually to a professional golfer who best exemplifies Stewart's steadfast values of character, charity and sportsmanship. Stewart, an 11-time winner on the PGA TOUR and World Golf Hall of Fame member, died tragically the week of the TOUR Championship in 1999. Southern Company, the "Official Energy Company of the PGA TOUR and PGA TOUR Champions," was the TOUR Championship sponsor the year of Stewart's passing. A year later, the PGA TOUR created the Payne Stewart Award in his honor, and Southern Company has supported the annual presentation since its inception.

The past winners have all distinguished themselves through their respect for the game, the TOUR's tradition of charity and their ability to make a positive impact in the lives of others.

"I am incredibly honored to receive the Payne Stewart Award," said Furyk.  "I was fortunate enough to know Payne as a colleague and friend, and I always admired the character and spirit he brought to the game of golf.  The Payne Stewart Award is an important part of the TOUR's efforts to honor Payne's legacy.  Knowing my name will be forever linked to him through this honor is extremely humbling, and I am very grateful."

"There's no finer player on the Tour and no one more deserving than Jim to receive this award," said Eddie Rowland, Co-Founder and CEO of Nexbelt. "Jim and his wife Tabitha have done so much to help so many people over the years. Through their Foundation, they've raised millions of dollars to help children and families in need and we couldn't be more proud to be associated with him than at this moment."

It's been a banner year for Furyk when it comes to achievements. Jim was selected by United States Ryder Cup Captain Davis Love III as one of his Vice Captains for the 2016 Ryder Cup, which will take place this week at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota. Furyk has played in nine consecutive Ryder Cups (1997, '99, '2002, '04, '06, '08, '10, '12, '14), which is the second-most in U.S. Ryder Cup history. A West Chester, Pennsylvania native, Furyk was a member of winning U.S. Ryder Cup efforts in 2008 and 1999. A 17-time winner on the PGA Tour, Furyk also played in seven Presidents Cups and served as a Vice Captain at the 2015 Presidents Cup.
