Contra Costa’s improved surface and playing conditions are a result of total golf course regrassing, updating the irrigation system and architectural enhancements of the greens, bunkers and tee boxes. The removal of nearly 200 trees has also opened-up the course, while framing dramatic views of Mt. Diablo, and highlighting the magnificent resident oak trees.
In addition, the new “reoriented” and enlarged practice facility has everything a golfer needs to work on all aspects of their game. With a 40-yard deep full-grass tee area, extended range, and 20 spacious hitting stalls, members now enjoy plenty of room to practice. The overall length of the practice range was increased by 30 yards. Also included in the new practice facility are dedicated putting and chipping greens, a variety of bunkers and a hard-lie practice area.
“In the months preceding and since the completion of the project, our membership is now trending upward, as we’ve secured 70-plus new members since the beginning of construction in May 2014,” added Dumas. “There is no question that this growth validates the renovation. The Club has been the benefactor of an outstanding reputation, and the investment has served to solidify that reputation.”
Golf Inc. Magazine annually recognizes top public and private golf course renovations. In a recent issue of the industry publication, four public courses and five private courses were honored as top “Renovations of the Year.”
