38 Troon-Affiliated Courses Recognized By Golfweek in Top Modern & States

(Scottsdale, Ariz.) – Troon, the leader in upscale golf course management, development and marketing announced that 38 of its affiliated courses have been named to Golfweek’s “2016 Best Courses” in the United States list. Kapalua (Plantation) in Hawaii (No. 45) and Pronghorn (Fazio) in Oregon (No. 55) are both listed on the prestigious ranking of the “Top 100 Best Modern Courses” (post 1960). The list of the “Next 100 Best Modern Courses” includes three Troon affiliated courses, including The Golf Club at Black Rock in Idaho (No. 139), Princeville Makai Golf Club in Hawaii (No. 159) and Quintero Golf Club in Arizona (No. 181).

Among the courses named to Golfweek’s “Best Courses You Can Play, State-By-State” rankings, four Troon affiliated courses were ranked No. 1 in their states, including Lake of Isles (North) in Connecticut, Bayside Resort Golf Club in Delaware, Kapalua (Plantation) in Hawaii, and Giants Ridge Golf & Ski Resort (Quarry) in Minnesota.

Among the criteria used by Golfweek’s panel of course raters include:
- Ease and intimacy of routing – The extent to which the sequence of holes follows natural contours and unfolds in an unforced manner.
- Variety and memorability of par 3s, 4s and 5s – Different clubs hit; extent to which the angles of play create interesting and varied playing options; and extent to which holes offer variety of options from the tee and on the second shot.
- Basic quality of conditioning – Variety of playing textures; extent of turf coverage; consistency and quality of bunker sand.
- “Walk in the park” test – Degree to which the course ultimately is worth spending a half-day on.
