Three Billy Casper Golf General Managers Among Golf Inc. Magazine’s ‘Operators of the Year’

(RESTON, VA) – Three Billy Casper Golf (BCG) general managers were named “Operators of the Year” by Golf Inc. magazine for their outstanding business skills, innovative strategies and tactics, and relentless drive to increase engagement and revenue.

Nominees worldwide entered the inaugural competition celebrating operators who have meaningfully improved their facilities.  Four groups – daily fee, private, resort and municipal – were judged on financial enhancement, capital investment and originality.

A revitalized restaurant and commitment to customer satisfaction earned 1757 Golf Club’s Gary Huebner first place in the daily-fee category.  In his third year directing the BCG-managed club in Dulles, VA, rounds are up by 12%, total revenue increased by 13%, and banquets and restaurant sales hit record highs in 2015.

“Our team has worked smartly to make 1757 Golf Club the hands-down, best recreational experience in the Washington, DC area,” says Huebner.  “Everyone here has the same mission of helping our guests enjoy every second they spend with us.”

A 15-year high in profit placed Chris Strand of Dauphin Highland Golf Club (Harrisburg, PA) atop the municipal list.  The BCG veteran oversaw a nearly $750,000 investment to upgrade maintenance equipment, golf carts and clubhouse conditions, resulting in a 10,000-round increase.  Additionally, his significant role in giving The Five Iron Grille a fresh look and new menu translated to best-ever food and beverage sales.

BCG’s David Peru, the company’s onsite leader at Devou Park Golf Course (Covington, KY), also won Golf Inc. honors.  In less than a year, his team positively impacted every facet of the Northern Kentucky-area course’s operation, boosting rounds by 15.1% and overall returns by 20.4%.  Peru also led Devou Park to become the local hot-spot for men’s and women’s leagues and dozens of outings.

“Our team of general managers fuel Billy Casper Golf’s powerful operating engine,” says Peter Hill, Chairman and CEO of BCG.  “What they do every day to separate and elevate our courses to new heights is nothing short of amazing.”

BCG is widely respected for recruiting and developing the most business-savvy managers.  In 2012, it launched BCG-U, an online education and training resource unique to the golf industry, to provide all employees with tools to advance their careers.  More than 100 e-learning modules include interactive progress reviews, management feedback and customizable profiles to track professional objectives.
