GolfStyles Magazine Voted Best Publication At ING Conference

(PHILADELPHIA, Pa.) - GolfStyles Magazine, now in its 20th year as the leading regional golf magazine in America, received special recognition at the 25th Spring Conference of the International Network of Golf. The conference was held at the Mission Inn in Howey in the Hills, FL and brought together a large contingent of media and business executives from the golf world.

In voting by conference attendees, GolfStyles easily won the Best Publication of the Conference award. The award was presented by ING President John Glozek and was accepted by GolfStyles Philadelphia Editor Tony Leodora. It was the second time GolfStyles has won this award. It took top honors at the 2012 conference.

"For 20 years we have been dedicated to taking a different viewpoint on the world of golf," said GolfStyles Publisher Michael Keating. "We don't always walk the well-worn path, and maybe that is part of our success.

The Spring 2015 issue was the one submitted for the voting. It featured a striking cover, with a spring flower emerging from a pile of golf balls that resembled a snowbank - a stark reminder of the harsh winter of 2015.

Feature stories in the issue included the poignant "Can Golf Survive without a Shining Tiger Woods?" It was written by Editor-in-Chief Jeff Thoreson.

A feature story by Leodora - "The New Classics" - compared the legendary courses built during the Golden Age of Golf Course Architecture (1912 to 1930), with those built during what is being called the New Golden Age of Golf Course Architecture (1990 to 2002).

Leodora also contributed his annual collection of product reviews from the PGA Merchandise Show. The collection has come to be known as "Tony's Top Ten."

New Jersey Publisher Gerald Covella wrote about "A Perfect Trifecta" - the threesome of acclaimed courses that has been collected by the Ottinger family. They include nationally heralded Atlantic City CC, as well as regional favorites Ballamor and Scotland Run.

The final page column, known as "The Last," was another contribution from Thoreson. It was titled "Inspector Gadget Goes Golfing" and chronicled his slow conversion to the technical world of golf.

"I thought the issue had something of interest for everyone," said nationally renowned golf course architect Ron Garl, who attended the ING Conference and voted for GolfStyles. "The writing and photography are of really high quality. It makes you feel good to see that some outstanding golf publications still exist."
