Tri-State Junior Golf Tour Enters 24th Season

The Tri-State Junior Golf Tour will celebrate its 24th anniversary in 2015, and is looking forward to another strong year of offering an opportunity to junior golfers who are eager to learn more about the game of golf and to ‘grow’ their golfing skills.

The Tour this year will be sponsored by Hy-Vee of Quincy, KHQA-TV, and Refreshment Services Pepsi.

“We want to make it possible for more kids to learn about and enjoy the game,” stated the then Tournament Director Tami Fleischman, in 1992.  “It’s important for kids to learn how to compete against their peers – that’s what the Tri-State is all about.”

The Junior Tour this year offers six events in the tri-state area, and is run by Tournament Director Stephanie Burry, a mother of four whose kids grew up playing in the Tri-State events.

“I look forward to working with this wonderful program for kids,” said Stephanie.  “Having kids myself who have participated in the Tri-State events, I know this is a great opportunity for boys and girls who hope to learn more about the game and perhaps enter into more competitive events.”

Players who compete in all events each year gain the opportunity for a paid entry-fee scholarship to play in the next Pepsi Little People’s Golf Championships. Three players qualified in 2014 for invitations to play in the 2015 Little People’s, T.J. Wensing, Brayden Buffington and Ryan Cashman.

Entry fee for each Tri-State event is a minimal $20-$30, depending on age group.  Players can gain an additional 15% discount on entry fee if they enter all events and pay the total entry fee by June 1.

Players 8 and under play 5 holes, those 9-11 play 9 holes, and those 12-14 and 15-17 play 18 holes.  There are separate divisions for boys and for girls in each of the four age groups.  Trophies go to the first, second, and third place in each of the four divisions for girls and four divisions for boys.
