Tidewater Golf Club Ranked 7th Best Public Course in South Carolina

Golfweek Magazine Lauds the Grand Strand’s Most Scenic Course

(Cherry Grove, S.C.) – Tidewater Golf Club has a long list of honors to its credit, and Golfweek magazine has added another, ranking the Ken Tomlinson design as the seventh best public course in golf-rich South Carolina.

The magazine released the rankings as part of its annual Golfweek’s Best issue, which spotlights the best the game has to offer at the course level.

“We believe Tidewater is one of the best courses in South Carolina and all of America, so it’s gratifying to receive this recognition from Golfweek, one of the game’s most respected ratings panels,” Archie Lemon, Tidewater’s general manager, said. “Coming on the heels of our renovation last year, Tidewater is as good now as it has ever been, and the course is getting better everyday.”

Tidewater’s 2014 renovation project included the installation of new miniverde Bermuda grass greens and the expansion of every fairway, an enhancement that improved playability. The course’s drainage was dramatically improved and each green complex received a new custom soil profile, ensuring optimal conditions in the short and long term.

As part of the effort, Tidewater also removed more than 400 trees, installed an additional 3 ½ acres of sod on the course outside of playable areas, and every bunker received new sand.

The Myrtle Beach area’s most scenic course, Tidewater has eight holes that play along either the Intracoastal Waterway or the marshy waters of Cherry Grove, highlighted by the par 5 13th, which offers a distant view of the Atlantic Ocean.

The par 3 third and 12th holes are arguably the best duo along the Grand Strand as each brings the salty waters of Cherry Grove into play. The tee shot on each hole features a combination of challenge and beauty that leaves golfers talking long after they’ve left Myrtle Beach,
