Huntsville PGA Professional Stephen Puryear Named Teacher of the Year

(Huntsville, AL) - Huntsville golf professional Stephen Puryear has been named the 2014 Teacher of the Year by the Dixie Section of the Professional Golf Association (PGA). Puryear was chosen from golf instructors throughout Alabama and North Florida for this prestigious peer recognition.

"Considering how many great golf teachers there are in our area, it is a huge honor to be selected as Teacher of the Year," said Puryear. "I know it is a cliché, but I truly love my job, especially working with junior golfers. It is exciting to be a part of the future of the game of golf and to watch my students get excited about golf too."

The PGA Dixie Section Teacher of the Year Award is bestowed up on a PGA professional that demonstrates excellence in golf instruction. Criteria for this award include promotions of golf, use of teaching aids, involvement in junior golf activities, teaching techniques, and articles published, among other considerations.

Puryear, owner of P.U.R.E. Golf in North Alabama, has been a PGA professional for more than 20 years. He began his career in golf at Mississippi State University, where he completed the university's Professional Golf Management program and graduated with a degree in marketing and professional golf management. Puryear served as the head golf professional at Wynlakes Golf and Country Club (Montgomery, AL), Decatur Country Club (Decatur, AL), and Canebrake Golf Club (Athens, AL), before starting his company, P.U.R.E. Golf. Puryear currently provides golf instruction at several North Alabama golf courses, including the Decatur Country Club and Sunset Landing in Huntsville. Puryear is a Plane Truth Level 2 Certified Instructor (www.planetruthgolf.com) and is a Trackman Pro with Level 2 Certification (www.trackmangolf.com), both certifications being among the top standards for golf professionals.
