Mississippi Resort Golf Courses Earn National Recognition

(JACKSON, Mississippi) – Fallen Oak and The Preserve Golf Club both rose in Golfweek’s top-100  “Best Resort Courses, 2015” rankings, highlighting four Mississippi courses to be honored on the annual list.

Dancing Rabbit (Oaks) at Pearl River Resort and Grand Bear Golf Course in Saucier were included among the “Next 100 Resort Courses” to round out the Magnolia State’s collection of nationally-acclaimed courses.

“This critical acclaim helps affirm Mississippi as one of the best golf destinations in America,” said Malcom White, Visit Mississippi Director of Tourism. “Our combination of year-round temperate weather, variety of price points and designs in five distinct regions and wide array of non-golf activities continue to entice visitors from near and far.”

Using a panel of experienced evaluators, Golfweek rates courses each year on criteria that include overall strength of routing, shaping, natural setting, variety of holes and conditioning.

Fallen Oak jumped a spot to No. 16 in the rankings to remain one of the best resort courses in the country. Open exclusively to guests of the renowned Beau Rivage Resort & Casino in Biloxi, the Tom Fazio design sits next to DeSoto National Forest and hosts the Champions TOUR Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic each spring.

Unranked last year, The Preserve captured the state’s other top-100 placement at No. 97. The course was designed by U.S. Open champion Jerry Pate and meanders around the marshy wetlands of a nature preserve.

Grand Bear – an amenity of Grand Casino Biloxi – is a 7,200-yard Jack Nicklaus Signature design that sits along the banks of the Big Biloxi and Little Biloxi Rivers. The Oaks course at Dancing Rabbit Golf Club is a creation of Fazio and Pate, and, along with its sister Azaleas course, is found at Pearl River Resort in Choctaw, Miss.
