Billy Casper Golf’s ‘World’s Largest Golf Outing’ Breaks Record

Single-Day Event Across America Showcases Unwavering Appreciation for Military, Raises More Than $875,000 for Wounded Warrior Project

(VIENNA, VA) – Billy Casper Golf’s (BCG) fourth-annual “World’s Largest Golf Outing” – the simultaneous event played at more than 110 BCG-managed golf courses in 28 states on Monday, August 11 – raised more than $875,000, a record high, for Wounded Warrior Project (WWP).

More than 12,000 golfers, including 439 injured service members, participated in the largest, single-day golf fundraiser in the history of WWP, the organization that honors and empowers injured service men and women, and their families.

Since its inception, the event has contributed more than $2 million through a portion of golfers’ entry fees, contests and 100% of donations made at www.worldslargestgolfouting.com.

Bill Clinton, the nation’s 42nd President and 2014 recipient of the PGA of America’s Distinguished Service Award, supported the World’s Largest Golf Outing in his suburban New York City community.

Highlights from the emotional and inspiring event:
* Alta Vista Country Club (Placentia, CA) led course fundraising with $35,360
* Team Horn from Alta Vista Country Club led group fundraising with $22,055, its second consecutive year at No. 1
* Many courses honored the military with moments of silence; ceremonial tee shots; standing ovations; national anthems and color guards before play; patriotic decorations course-wide; golf carts adorned in red, white and blue; military vehicles and flyovers on-site
* Veterans and active service members shared their military experiences with participants
* Participation by national and local politicians, entertainers, professional athletes and media

The largest owner-operator of golf courses, country clubs and resorts in the U.S., BCG awarded prizes that included a trip to the Nike Campus in Beaverton, OR for custom club-fitting and other merchandise, and tickets to the 2015 PGA Championship in Kohler, WI.

Jeremiah Pulley played at Lincoln Hills Golf Club (Lincoln, CA) and was among the many veterans who addressed golfers:

“We have a saying within Wounded Warrior Project; it’s called living the (WWP “fireman’s carry”) logo.  Years ago, I was physically carried off the battlefield in Iraq and I was the warrior on top of the logo.  Now, I get to be the warrior on the bottom of the logo for my fellow brothers and sisters … because of your support, you, too, are now living that logo.”

The World’s Largest Golf Outing is the brainchild of BCG Chairman and CEO Peter Hill and is driven by the company’s 6,000 employees, business partners and loyal golfers.  BCG namesake, Masters and two-time U.S. winner Billy Casper, served in the Navy, saw first-hand the effects of front-line combat and entertained U.S. troops in Asia by hitting golf balls off aircraft carriers.

“Our nation’s generosity and the growth of the World’s Largest Golf Outing are amazing,” says Hill.  “It’s humbling to witness the unwavering appreciation for our brave troops whose sacrifices protect and preserve our daily freedoms.”

“We are deeply moved by the outpouring of support from golfers and veterans alike,” says Adam Silva, Chief Development Officer of WWP.  “We salute Billy Casper Golf for its altruistic culture and presenting this massive event with tremendous precision and professionalism.”
