Product Review: Exotics CB PROs Wedge

It can be argued that no club in the bag has more “personality” than the wedge. While drivers and putters require a great deal of confidence in your equipment to perform well, it’s most difficult for me to switch between wedges. One 56-degree wedge is not like another 56-degree wedge.

We tested the Exotics CB PROs wedge from Tour Edge, on and off the course.

The CB PROs, forged from 1025 carbon steel, has an incredible feel in your hands. The weighting is ideal throughout the swing and the look is sharp. Looking even closer at the face and you’ll notice what Tour Edge refers to as MONGO grooves. The combination of MONGO grooves and 28 micro-grooves (right) is designed to provide maximum face roughness, all within the rules of golf.

Like to open and close your wedges for additional control? Often the bounce restricts such movement, but the sole design of the CB PROs eliminates bounce from the heel and toe. Creativity around the greens is not only encouraged, but necessary.

As for testing ... In a controlled environment, the CB PROs provides incredible feel. Shot after shot off artificial turf - whether it was a full swing or a controlled chip - was consistent. With lesser wedges, it is frustratingly common to have one ball “grab” the club face, while the next one rolls up it. The variation in resulting yardage can be the difference between birdie and bogie ... or worse.

The key word in that last paragraph was “controlled.” And going back to the personality I mentioned in my opening ... I’ve grown to “know” the wedge I generally put in play fairly well. I trust it and trust is a big issue when you’re taking full swings near the green. Lack trust in the club you’re using while in deep green-side rough and you can easily airmail the green or leave the ball at your feet.

My suggestion: If you’ve lost trust in your wedge, put faith in the CB PROs wedge by Exotics. It has everything you need in a scoring club - weight, feel and performance. If you’re happy with your current wedge, don’t even think about replacing it until it turns on you. If/when that day comes, visit www.touredge.com to begin the search for your new club.

The CB PROs wedge is available in 50, 52, 54, 56, and 60 degrees with a retail price of $99.99 for steel shaft and $119 for graphite.
