Forest Dunes Debuts Among Top 100 Courses in Golf Magazine

Tom Weiskopf design recognized in biennial list of best courses in the U.S.

(Roscommon, MI) - Forest Dunes Golf Club, the nationally acclaimed Tom Weiskopf-designed golf course in northern Michigan, has been recognized by GOLF Magazine as one of the Top 100 Courses in the U.S.

The publication's biennial review of the top courses in the U.S. and World was featured in the September 2013 issue. The prestigious list was determined through a unique rating system utilizing top golf writers, industry insiders, and golf course raters.

"To once again be recognized as a Top 100 course by one of the leading consumer golf publications, GOLF Magazine, is very gratifying and exciting," said Todd Campbell, general manager at Forest Dunes Golf Club. "To continue improving our position among the top golf experiences and being rated up with some of the greatest courses in the country is a testament to our staff, service, and the world-class conditions we maintain."

Forest Dunes Golf Club, the only public golf course from the state of Michigan to make the list, was ranked No. 72 among the Top 100. Forest Dunes joins Crystal Downs (No. 11), and Oakland Hills-South (No. 22) representing the Great Lakes state.

In addition, GOLF singled out Forest Dunes as one of Seven Top Courses You Can Afford, saying; "Once largely overlooked, this Tom Weiskopf layout has been gaining recognition. Good thing is, it's still unknown enough that prices remain in sleeper range."

Forest Dunes Golf Club was designed by former British Open winner Tom Weiskopf who has said that Forest Dunes is in the top three among his designs in the United States. The 7,116-yard course, with five sets of tees including junior tees, is cut through the beautiful Huron National Forest.

The course is unlike any other in northern Michigan. The front nine features parkland-style holes meandering through corridors of red and jack pines, with elaborate bunkering and sandy waste areas on the sides. The back nine is quite different, featuring even more open and exposed rugged native sand areas with scruffy underbrush bordering and crossing fairways and greens.

New for 2013 and enhancing the overall golf experience at Forest Dunes is the Lake AuSable Lodge. The new lodge, which features 14 rooms and suites overlooking Lake AuSable and the No. 1 tee, reflects the same Adirondack architectural theme as the nearby golf clubhouse. Affordable golf packages start at just $149 per night.
