US Open - Nike Golf Athletes are Dressed to Impress, Dressed to Perform

Nike Athletes will rely on the most innovative technologies, progressive patterns and colors to beat the heat at Merion

(BEAVERTON, Ore) – At one of the most grueling major championships of the season, Nike Golf athletes will sport styles from the Summer 2013 Collection to beat the heat at the US Open. Each Nike athlete in the field will compete in new designs that incorporate key technologies such as laser perforations, no-sew technology and ultra-lightweight fabrications.

As the number one golf apparel company in the world, Nike Golf has “scripted” its athletes at Major Championships for over 10 years. “Scripting” is a process in which the Nike Golf Apparel team collaborates with its athletes to select designs that will help them perform and look their best for each competitive round at a Major.

“We share our newest innovations for the season with our athletes and focus on the technologies that are most applicable to the climate in which they will be competing,” said Merritt Richardson, Vice President of Global Golf Apparel and Footwear for Nike Golf.  “We listen to their performance, comfort and style needs to ensure they are dressed to compete with the best apparel and footwear for the grand stage of a major championship.”

Ten Nike Athletes will compete at the 2013 US Open: Paul Casey, Kevin Chappell, Russell Henley, Rory McIlroy, Francesco Molinari, Thorbjorn Olesen, Carl Pettersson, Charl Schwartzel, Nick Watney and Tiger Woods.

Here’s what McIlroy, Olesen, Chappell, Schwartzel and Woods will be highlighting:

McIlroy will sport looks from the Nike Tour Performance collection, featuring the latest innovations in lightweight, breathable performance fabrications. He will wear the Fashion Body Map Graphic Polo in Ice Blue ($70) on Thursday, which has roller perforated insets on the side for ventilation.  Friday he will wear the Lightweight Tech Polo in Electro Orange ($65) and Saturday he will wear the Fashion Jacquard Polo in Violet Force ($70). For his final round, McIlroy will wear the Fashion Graphic Polo in Poison Green ($70), which has a full body map on the back panel for ventilation. McIlroy will rely on Nike Dri-FIT to keep him cool as well as body mapping technology for the ultimate breathability in warm conditions. He will top off his look with the Nike Lunar Control footwear.

The Sport Collection, which represents a youthful and edgy design with a slimmer fit cut, will be seen on Kevin Chappell and Thorbjorn Olesen. Chappell will wear the Sport Nike Swing Polo in Sail ($60) and the Sport Vintage Stripe Polo ($75) on Thursday and Friday respectively. He will finish his head to-toe look with the Nike Flat Bill hat and the Nike Lunar Swingtip golf shoe.  Olesen will also highlight the Sport Gingham Novelty Polo in Sail ($70) on Thursday and the Sport Nike Swing Polo in Atomic Teal ($60) on Sunday. He will complement his looks with the Nike Flat Bill hat and Nike Lunar Control footwear.

As he contends for his second major championship victory, Schwartzel will debut classic, refined looks from the Summer 2013 Tour Premium Collection on Thursday through Saturday. He will wear the Premium Novelty Polo in White ($90), the Premium Stripe Polo in Dynamic Pink ($100), and the Premium ½ Zip Plaid Polo in White ($100). Schwartzel will complete his look with the Nike Lunar Control footwear.

Woods will rely on the new innovations in Nike Golf’s Summer 2013 Tiger Woods Collection. This collection utilizes the most innovative technologies that Nike has ever created. He will be wearing the TW Trajectory Polo in Violet Force ($100), the TW Stripe Polo in White/Electric Orange ($90), the TW Chest Stripe Polo in Fiberglass ($95) and the TW Graphic Polo in Hyper Red ($90). These polos are extremely lightweight and utilize a laser-perforated collar for increased ventilation to keep the athlete cool while also reducing overall weight. All four of these styles utilize the posture performance chassis which has a kimono style back design to allow Woods an increased range of motion throughout his swing.  Woods will finish his look with the new Nike TW’14 footwear.
