Golf Pride Grips Teams up with Long Drivers of America for Try at Record

Guinness World Record Attempt Will Take Place During PGA Show Outdoor Demo Day

(SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. ) - Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation announced that its Golf Pride grips division will join forces with the Long Drivers of America (LDA) to host three of the world’s top long drive competitors in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for fastest golf ball speed ever recorded.  The exhibition will take place Jan. 23 at 1 p.m. at Orange County National Golf Center in Winter Garden, Florida, as part of the 2013 PGA Merchandise Show’s Outdoor Demo Day.

Golf Pride, a long time supporter and official grip of the LDA since 2009, will welcome long drive titans Tim Burke, Eric Lastowka and Ryan Winther to its demo area on Orange County National’s driving range.  Winther is the defending RE/MAX World Long Drive Champion, Burke is the 2012 Runner-Up and Lastowka the 2012 RE/MAX World Long Drive Senior Champion.

“There is a direct correlation between confidence in your grip and the ability to generate a ton of clubhead speed,” stated Brandon Sowell, global sales and marketing manager for Eaton’s Golf Grip Division. “One of the keys to generating clubhead speed is to grip the club as lightly as possible without losing control of it, because less tension in your large muscles allows you to swing faster.  LDA Tour members know this better than anyone, because they are constantly looking to gain a few more yards from every swing.  We are proud of our partnership with the LDA and we think this is a great way to share the excitement with the rest of the golf industry.”

Long Drivers of America is a dynamic golf events company owned and operated by long drive pioneer Art Sellinger. Founded in 1995 and based in Roanoke, Texas, LDA is best known for staging the annual RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship, the premier event in power golf. The RE/MAX championship has evolved into an international competition with power golfers from around the globe battling for bragging rights and $500,000 in prize money.

LDA and the RE/MAX WLDC will begin a new partnership with NBC/Golf Channel in 2013, totaling 26 hours of airtime on Golf Channel affiliates worldwide. October becomes Long Drive Month on the Golf Channel, culminating in a live two-hour finale from Las Vegas on the Golf Channel on October 30. The sport will also make its network television debut on NBC in Q4 that intends to elevate the sport of long drive and this event significantly in terms of viewer interest. As the official grip sponsor, Golf Pride will be prominently featured during the events.
